Is there a way to get the speaker changed out without taking everything out (From the bottom)? What tool do I need to get those screws out from the speaker cover? Any help would be appreciated. If you could be specific about what tool to get it would be great. The standard socket was too thick.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link. I searched, but I didn't see that one! I think I have it figured out now! It's 90 degrees now, so I will work on it when it is a little cooler. I am more worried about getting the speaker cover off, but I will get it!

Thanks!!!

Don't toss the old speaker out. Usually the surround of the speaker rots away but they are fine electronically. I recovered my speaker and it sounds like new. I think it is a5 1/4 size.

I have done this to 4 or 5 old speakers and they all work perfectly. Most of the time they just need new foam....a cheap and easy fix.

You bet I will keep it. It is still working, but is worn out. I have the old 4 by 10s from the front (I now have kenwoods) and an extra rear speaker too. I will hang on to them and refurbish them sometime. This new speaker should be OEM. We will see. If not I will go the foam route! Thanks! Refurb, reuse, recycle! I am a saver for sure!

The speaker grill cover has those 4 hex head screws holding it in. I have never found a socket that was small enough (or thin walled) to get in there to remove...

However I have a Klein Tools 10-N-1 screwdriver and the nut driver that all the screw bits fits into is the perfect size for that task. It's basically a thin sheet-metal socket at 8mm and 6mm.
