So I finally finishing swapping out the rear speakers in my GT, making the stock stereo sound so much better.

Now, I think my stock subwoofer is bad - when I slide the roof-mounted slider to the right, the bass is pretty sad... Luckily, I have a stock replacement subwoofer speaker from Rodney's that I have had for sometime now.

My question - how easy is it to replace just the speaker in the subwoofer assembly? Do I have to pull out the entire assembly from the dash or can I just unscrew those screws I see at the bottom of the unit right above the pass side floor board? I have the pass seat out - so it should be easy to get to, just not sure if I can replace the speaker without pulling out the whole thing.

thanks!

I believe that you will do much better if you pull the speaker and tube assembly. If I remember correctly you have to new drill some mounting holes and that may be difficult to do while upside down under the dash.

It takes about two minutes to remove the assembly.
45 seconds of that is finding the 7mm and 10mm sockets.

It's easier just to pull the complete housing, really a simple job . Once out just follow RDs' instructions for mounting the speaker. When you go to put the housing back in remember that the tube on the housing will swivel up to 360* to make the reinstallation simple. There are only a few screws that hold the housing in. Lastly, it does help to also remove the blue chime module, I believe it just unplugs and has one screw for the mount.

Thanks everyone.

Before I read your replies, I spotted those 2 screws - and like you all said, in seconds it was out.

I replaced the speaker (I didn't have Rodney's instructions - years ago, the PO just gave me the box with the new subwoofer in it. Visiting Rodney's site I figured it out) and all works well. Will reinstall tomorrow.

That blue chime box - everytime I buy a Fiero - that is the first 'mod' I did - I removed it!

thanks again!

There is a post on here somewhere that explains which wires do which chime in the chime box. Simply remove (easy to reinstall) the wires you don't want. For example remove only, key in ignition chime, or the seatbelt chime, or maybe the headlight chime. I disabled one on ours so I was able to simply reattach if I like. Saves removing the whole chime box and loosing the ones you really do like.
