I found a 2000 grand am with a cd player in nice shape at the local u-pull for $16. How does the theft lock work? Is there a way to reset it yourself? From what I have read in other threads this should be a direct fit for my 86 gt and maintain a stock look.

You can get the plug and play adapter harness at www.replacementradios.com so that you don't have to cut and splice your stock harness. http://replacementradios.co...php?cPath=22_260_261 It's the last harness at the bottom of the page.

This is what I have for the procedure. The code 02107 is not valid any more, so you will have to try to coax a dealer code out of a GM service technician.

1. Press and hold presets 2 and 3 for about 5 to 10 seconds until you
get 3 digits on your display. This is the first 3 of 6 digits you will
need, so write 'em down. If 2 and 3 doesn’t work, try 1 and 4.

2. After doing step one and writing down the code, immediately press the
AM/FM button to get the last 3 of the 6 numbers you'll need, and write
'em down. (if you wait too long between steps 1 and 2 and the LOC code
displays again, just start over).

3. Call this number, it's a prerecorded message, so don't worry about
having to talk to anyone...1-800-537-5140. The voice will ask if you're
calling for Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac, etc... When you hear this,
press 1, followed by 02107 and hit the # key. He'll ask you
for the 6 digit code that you've written down. Enter that and press the
* key. He will then give you a code, and the option to get additional 4
digit codes, but one should be sufficient.

4. Follow the normal procedure in your owners manual for unlocking the
radio with your new code...press the hour set button on your radio until
you get the first two numbers of the code, then press the minute set
button until you've entered the last two numbers. Immediately press the
AM/FM button once the correct code is entered and the code SEC or
"secured" will be displayed on the display screen. Now, just turn the
radio on, and you’re ready to roll.

got my harness in today and wired up my $16 junk yard CD player. It worked fine after everything was put back in the dash then when i came back and turn the key on the display did not come on. Everything else works but no display. Anyone no what color wire would control the display? I soldered all the wires together so i doubt its a bad connection. Is this a common problem with the newer pontiac radios? Thanks.

Check your fuses, of course, but there is a 2 wire connector coming off the harness. That's for the constant power for memory and the display.

Sometimes you have to replace the bulb that illuminates the readouts and displays.
How are your speakers. I have OEM front and back that work perfectly, if you're interested.

I put in a radio from a newer pontiac. Before theftlock and it had a tape deck. I plugged it into my conversion harness and the lights wouldn't come on. I ended up frying my dimmer transistor. I put the old radio back in.

I pulled the deck back out tonight and checked out the wires everything was good. I decided to take the deck apart and see if i could see somthing obvious. I found the light bulb that would illuminate the display and touched it. It turnd on and it is still working after i put it back together.

I pulled my dash speaker out tonight to replace it with some new ones and was supprised to see the stock speakers still in it. There is a orange colord wire and greenish grey wire anyone know wich one is + and wich is -? Or does it matter wich wire goes where?

also broke the tabs off the pillar speaker cover because I asumed it poped off to have access.

I followed the YouTube tutorials for installing Fiero front and back speakers, respectively. Otherwise, who knows how much pillar and dashboard carnage I would have inflicted.

If you're installing aftermarket speakers and your factory harness hasn't been cut, you can get a plug and play harness for both the front and rear speakers from Crutchfield. The two terminals are sized properly for aftermarket speakers so that your polarity is correct. The plastic end of the harness plugs to your factory wiring. I put 1986 as the year since that's when the rear speakers were first offered. The front harness is the same for all years.

If you still have the wires you cut away, get some shrink tubing, solder the stock harness back on and shrink the tubing over the connections. That's what I did to one of my previous cars that had already been cut when I got it.
