Hello all I have decided its time to shut down fieronews.net. Its been a long haul and I have not updated anything in three almost four years. It will go offline 6-18-21 so there is still time to download as much as you can. so get all the stuff as you need. Here is my reasoning. I have been hit with a couple of cease and desist emails and i dont want to deal with that anymore. I have also not upladed anything to the site is a long while. Also there is a seller on ebay that has downloaded all my work and has been selling cd's on there as well for 29.99 when you could get it for free. It was fun but now its time to focus on other things.
I will still be around and help out where I can. Thank you for the many years of usage.
Thomas

There is just so much great info on that site, that it is irreplaceable. Some of those manuals and videos are long gone. You claim that you are being hit with cease and desist orders but you make no money from it. If there is no monetary gain there is no damage. Its a shame that it must be closed down. Perhaps someone can repurpose it as a redux site as Nathan Bittinger did with Jon Laglers Fiero Addiction site.

I let HTTrack grab your site last night... checked all the options. lol. So I got all the videos that were on there too. 6.32GB!
I downloaded and installed HTTrack today, and instructed it to download the fieronews website. I didn't change any default values. It's only downloading at a rate of 24KiB/s. (After 50 minutes, it's downloaded 73MiB.) Maybe I should've started this last week! Is this slow download speed normal? No, I'm not using a dial-up modem.

No its usually pretty fast. I got it all in a few min but I have a gig speed connection. I have all the files so if you are looking for something I can still provide them for you.

Thanks for the offer Thomas, but no, there's nothing specific I'm after. I just didn't want all the files you've collected unavailable in case there was something in the future I might want.
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who's used HTTrack to maybe let me know if there's some default setting within the program that I should've changed. Maybe downloading the whole website is unnecessary. Maybe I should've targeted certain areas/folders instead?

Bingo!
I poked around in HTTrack and discovered under Limits that the default setting for Max transfer rate was 25,000 B/s. I've changed this to the maximum setting offered and it's now 250,000 B/s. I don't know if there's anything else I should change, but at least it's 10x faster than it was!
[EDIT] I just discovered that I could simply eliminate the Max transfer rate limit being set by HTTrack. My download speed with HTTrack at the fieronews site currently seems to top out at 960,000 B/s. Things are moving a whole lot faster now than they were originally!

Just curious is this information will be available elsewhere. What kind of info did you collect?
Matthew
Most of it will not be. There was a ton of stuff there that I have scanned in to share. There were videos that you could only get here as well. including archies libary and the mera build videos. There might be a future for this stuff. I am just not sure when.
