American Powertrain offers an electric power steering "column" (the electric steering mechanics is on the column under the dash) allowing Fiero owners to have power steering without all the
headaches of finding a rack and all the parts for power steering/ It can be found at:

(I realize not everyone wants power steering in a Fiero, this is for those that do. Please keep it civil, this is NOT OT. )

I'd expect them to require a Fiero in their hands in order to make the parts to fit!

A good way to go about it may be to purchase the splined couplers from them, and the electronic signal-spoofing box, and then DIY the mechanical install.

WCF already has a kit... but it seems to use a Unisteer.

Right on! I can handle the manual steering just fine, but, yeah I would be all over this when monies are available.. always the main problem LOL.

Donno what a "unisteer" is?

The WCF kit is your basic Vue/Equinox steering box with a custom bracket and various shaft mods to make it fit the Fiero. It's not cheap, but it basically bolts right up and requires no welding or fab work. It works well enough as long as you're willing to do minor tweaking (and are willing to deal with Chris' idiosyncracies, particularly in shipping delays and ...unique ... phone manner.)

For the brave and enterprising, the basic parts are also available from https://www.epowersteering.com/ -- as with the Dutch site, not vehicle-specific and will require fab work.

I don't regret going to power steering per se, but (1) it will expose any issues in your current setup, worn components and such that you may not have noticed before and (2) you really need to leave it turned all the way down. Otherwise going around tight corners you can end up spinning out, putting your car in a ditch and whacking a fence. Hypothetically speaking, of course; this has not happened to me (rolls eyes.)

There are some very good DIY threads on this site for implementing this conversion for less than $200. I followed them did it, and was very pleased with the result.

I had just the opposite experience, going into a slide in a turn. The Power steering helped me recover easier. It was my heavy right foot and a 3800 SC that got me into trouble

Unisteer is a low-end brand of EPS. If it's a Vue unit, well then the Vue unit looks like a Unisteer.

An EPS motor is kind of like your wang; you want to have a big one.

With a small motor, you can get high assist torque with enough gear reduction, but then the motor won't be able to provide assist at high steering rates.

The other thing that happens with small motors is that they're intermittent-duty only; the smaller the motor, the faster it heats up, and therefore assist must be cut back to prevent the motor from overheating.

I categorically deny that any of the following facts in any way affected the event I did not experience:

1. There road was gravelled.
2. It's been years since I've driven a RWD car, and never driven an RMR before.
3. I was trying to find the limits of the car. Which I did. I just exceeded them as well
