Just an off shoot to anther thread but I am curious, I know we have people here from all walks of life, from the 12 year old little girl who is building her own fiero to guys and gall who have never touched a wrench and never intend to.
So lets see how much we have spent and don't forget to add anything special about your car that made it worth it to you as well as are you just a collector who is never going to drive the car or going to drive it.
Me I have 2 right now, an 84 run of the mill one I picked up a couple of years after we moved back to Maine so almost 20 years ago for 200 bucks, worn as it would be for having 100,000 miles on it and a sezed block, pored some mystery oil in and then PB blaster and un-seized it, drove it for 2 years before in got a massive oil leek.
Our 86 SE with the V6 and all the bells and whistles sunroof, and everything else I got for 150 bucks because it ass ended someone else had to replace one fender and the hood and frt bumper. fixed that and have been driving that one for years now, almost 10 I think.
I drive our cars, always have always will, they were made to be driven all cars are to me. You won't catch me putting a car, any car in a hermetical sealed building to preserve it, I drive it like I stole it every time I get behind the wheel, so does the wife.

I didn't pay a $1.00 more than I thought it was worth....to me. What others may think, I have no idea. Nor do I care because, after all, it's all about me.

I don't think you are getting the point, what we pay for our cars is what they are worth to us, but to those who may be buying they may not. But what we pay for them are what they are really only worth, what someone will pay for them. I know we have people here who know they paid to much, think they paid to much, or know they didn't pay to much, or know they stole it at their price.
But we have people here who have bought high dollar Fiero's, 10, or more thousand, I am trying to prove a point. We all think our cars are special, we wouldn't put up with the constant searching for parts and fixing the little things that go wrong. Hell notice I didn't say how much I have spent on ours over the time we have owned it, my wife is Fierowitch here and does read the forum.
Some here have several, some a dozen or more, some, well some are addicted.

I've owned three during the past 15 years. spent less for them and on subsequent repairs than one "new" car. Had some unique crazy experiences and they got me through some rough times. wouldn't trade it all for nuthin' else...
86 GT (gold) paid $1,000 1 year ago tomorrow. Put about $1,200 into it so far. Brakes rotors/pads all around, tires, etc. It's my kids daily driver (for now).
86 SE (red) Paid $500 March 2015. I was supposed to buy a different one from the guy and the day I called him to arrange towing he asked if I wanted the SE instead. That's the one I really wanted. He actually thew in a bunch of extras. Including brand new still in bubble wrap SE tail lights with screws and caps, an extra upper plenum and a rear spoiler (odd looking though like for a Honda but fits the SE not the GT). This one is in peaces though and now my 10 y/o decided tonight that he wants it. We'll see.
$900 for a base 88, not running. ~$300 into it to get it running, safety inspected and registered. ...then about $25K to get it to the point it is at now....($10K of that is still sitting in boxes however....). Lots more to come!
...and no....I don't show my wife the receipts either....
I've owned too many Fieros to remember what I paid for each one, but here are some of the more memorable ones:
$9000 in 1990 for an '88 GT with 23K miles
$10,000 in 1997 for an '88 GT with 10K miles
$6,000 in 2000 (or 2001) for an '88 Formula with 44K miles
$10,000 in 2001 (or 2002) for an '88 Formula with 281 miles (brand new!)
$2700 in 2013 for an '88 GT with 94K miles (my current Fiero)
There were a ton of others over the past 26 years.....most in the $500-$2000 range. There was also the '86 GT Northstar convertible that I regrettably bought in 2003. I will not disclose what I ultimately paid for that car, but I wound up selling it for roughly half as much 3 years later.
This year I have my eyes on another car (non-Fiero) that will put me back a lot of money, but if/when I buy another Fiero it will be a low mileage one.....probably in the $10-$12K range.
I bought an 86 SE V6 5 speed in 1996 for my son to drive...it's the car that got me started in Fieros. It had 55,000 miles on it, and I paid $3500...which was WAY too much money. It was one of the few 86 SE's that came from the factory with a Getrag 5 speed. I spent a ton of money trying to keep that car running...it was just a money pit.
My current car is an 86 GT 4 speed that I bought in 1999 for $2500. I spent a lot of time trying to find a decent GT, and finally found this one in Colorado. It had 88,000 miles on it, and some body damage...but it was EXTREMELY clean, no flaws in the interior, and a super clean engine compartment. I've spent more than what I originally paid for the car on repairs and maintenance...had the body work done and a new paint job, replaced taillights, front fascia, ground effects, and windshield (all the parts were replaced with OEM GM parts which were still available then). Recently, the suspension was completely rebuilt, all components powdercoated, and Eibach lowering springs installed. I've put a lot of time and money into both large and small details, and I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. But I don't drive it much anymore...it sits in a storage unit across town from my house, and it's kind of a pain to go get it to drive it. I've contemplated selling it, but so far, just haven't pulled that trigger...

2200 for an 86 GT 2 years ago, I only planned on some miner stuff and paint but now have a 3800SC next to it along with wheels. Also plan on body mods and more. Just can't stop and really I don't know exactly what I have spent but I really don't care. When I get this one finished I may buy a low mileage and keep it original.
In 2011 I bought an '87 coupe (duke with a 5 speed) for $100. One. Hundred. That's not a typo.
It had been sitting for 5 years and didn't run. I replaced the fuel pump and rusted out clutch line and then it was driveable. I drove it almost daily for the rest of the summer/fall and sold it that November for what I had put into it. Basically had a free car to joyride for the season with very little upfront investment.
It was probably the most fun I've ever had with a car, mostly due to how little money/care I put into it. It was in rough shape, and honestly pretty fun to own a car that I didn't ever have to worry about what happened to it, how clean it was, etc.
I thoroughly enjoyed the duke with the little power it had because it allowed the car to be driven at 10/10 of its potential all the time without ever getting noticed. I consistently found myself choosing to drive that car over my 350+ hp WRX at the time. Since then, I've been a firm believer in the idea that "driving a slow car fast, is more fun than driving a fast car slow."

$17,019.50 for my 87 GT bought new in 87 less $4513.84 for down payment and trade in. Net $12540.66.
I have most of the records of repairs that have been made, tires, batteries etc. which probably add up to more than $20,000 in the past 29 years and 155,000 miles. I'm afraid to add up at all the expenses.
I paid about $3500 for my 87 gt, and about $2000 to do the 4.9 swap, which includes a second trans when the first one didn't work. It has been a very inexpensive fun venture all things considered.
$3,300 for an 1988 Formula + $300 for a CA smog repair/test + $400 for catalytic converter replacement + $100 for a Monsoon + maybe $600 total for new shocks, suspension parts + $100 for new headlight motor + $1,850 for transmission repairs + $100 for brake work + $300 for various engine repairs + $100 for sun visors + $100 for a heater core
Total, more than $7,000
The truth is, I kinda regret it all. I really overestimated my ability and time to work on this. Not a great time in my life to have a hobby car. There is a laundry list of other repairs, cosmetic and otherwise, than still needs to be done (starting with the horrible paint job which I botched).

in 2001 paid $8,500 for my SBC powered 84, was a nice car with lots of good stuff on it, still did not stop me and have spent a lot more modifying and improving from there, no regrets and it has been enjoyable and still love driving it.

I'd sell mine as parts before I'd let it go for less than I paid for it. But it isn't for sale.
So you're the one who bought it. I wouldn't mind seeing it again. Has that been the going price as it changed hands?
I paid that when I first bought he car in 2001... Technically John never really bought the car from me so I didn't really buy it back from him ....that's another story for another day

I bought it in Spring of 1991. Can't remember how many miles it had back then.
It came down to the Fiero or leasing a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4 and I choose to spend less money. The 3000GT was an amazing car at the time, but I don't think the body style is as unique and timeless at the Fiero. I'm glad for my choice.
I paid 2600$ for my 88 GT two years ago, rough around the edges, battery would die pretty quick (previous owner had installed the alarm system terribly and it had a wicked draw, something like 4 amps), aftermarket power rear view mirror was wired always hot (1 amp), tune up, battery, new alternator, starter, needed a cat, and it also had a leaking heater core. Fixed all that stuff and it's been a good weekend car to me so far, and slowly restoring it.
Here is the list so far: 88 Fiero GT: 2600$ Battery: 100$ (installed) 3800 Starter (junkyard): 40$ (installed) Alternator (remanufactured): 80$ (installed) Heater core: 50$ (installed) Tune up: 60$ (performed) Cat converter: 100$ (installed) Complete brake system overhaul : 350$ (installed) Audio system: 1000$ (installed) Recovered steering wheel from Irationable 180$ (installed) Mr. Mikes real leather seat upholstry: 800$ Non cracked tail light lenses: 350$ Carpet: 150$ Miselanious interior parts by Russ: 250$

Hmmm. Nothing to do with the value of the car, just cost, but I include other things: Inspections: $12 * 3 = $36 Cost in fuel, vehicle wear & tear to get vehicle: $$ Cost for club membership, fuel, hotels, meals, events, etc: $$$ Personal property tax: $ Insurance: $ Local events, including mileage, meals, etc: $$
For example, the Fierorama trip cost about $600 The Dells trip cost about $1,100 The trip to get my '88 GT cost about $370
I guess I'll have to let you know how much I paid for mine when it's sold and gone.
Most Ive paid for any was $3000. It was a high mile, 1/2 decent car with an Archie V8 kit. It had a blown engine and trans. I took both out and threw them away and put everything brand new back in from a stroker 383 to a modified auto trans. Everything in the engine bay was new. I paid $1000 for a nice 86 SE V6, 4 spd that I built my Ferrari kit on. Also paid $1100 for the one I did the Diablo kit on. Both ran and drove fine as I bought them. I put a turboed 3.1 race engine in the Ferrari, and a new long block 2.8 in the Diablo.
$6000 for a yellow 88 Formula CJB 34,000 miles in 2014. Unfortunaley I have only drove this car once. when I purchased it. Hopefully I will have some time this summer to drive.
First,I spent much more than I should have . I have more than $100,000 spent on this car ,which has the paint changed from black to a metallic blue,383 inch (stroked 350 ) ,AFR heads (everything new) ,Superram intake with a new throttle body,85 pound injectors, turbo (new),stainless exhaust(custom made),2 bus cat.converters, and much, much more .I almost forgot, this car is an 87GT with an 88 powertray, and it has power steering.I'm 76 years old and want to sell this car, call me for a good(to you) price and a more complete list of what the car has.My phone number is 856-784-8450.
