Is it the same and will the wing holes be correct? I tried a search but didn't get a definite answer. Thanks for the help.

A formula rear decklid will not fit on a 86-88 gt.

In addition for future searches...

An 84 deck lid will work with any 85-88 Duke powered notchback, but will have an interference issue with a V6 powered notchback due to the center vent design.

85-88 notchback deck lids will work on any year notchback, 84 included. You should probably not use solid 84 vent covers with the non-84 decklid.

Notchback and fastback deck lids will not interchange... unless you do something like this:
Reality's Notched Fastback

Yeah, the difference of fastback vs notchback causes the Formula (notchback) not to fit on the 87 GT (fastback).

Wings made for coupe deck lids don't fit on GT deck lids.

Isn't it just a matter of relocating one of the wing stand studs to the other hole?

Only when you get a wing with two sets of mounting holes in the wing stands. The wing I replaced my GT wing, came from a coupe and no second set of mount holes.

Maybe it came from before there were fastback style GTs (85 or older?)
