When i was a kid, the thought would have never even crossed my mind in the first place. Not out of fear of being beat, but out of respect for others stuff. And we didn't run around acting like heathens, it was just 'wrong'.
I should have stated why, not what would happen if I did.
Treat others as you want to be treated.

I have an even easier solution that requires absolutely no work on your part. Don't go to the a car dealership if you don't have the money to buy one. Pretty simple really. I have to agree with the others that are kind of asking why do YOU have an issue with this. I bet you would really get bent out of shape exiting the Test Track ride at Epcot. Kids climbing all over the new vehicles on display.
Kevin
I have an issue with this because of these parents allowing their kids to be all over these cars. After all ...this is a car dealership, not a Chuck E. Cheese factory! You can go ahead and point a finger at me for going there without the intention to buy but at least I'm not jumping all over the seats, slamming doors and putting fingerprints all over the windows. The issue here is one of disrespect for another's property. And you wonder why I have an issue? What if the Tesla dealership decided to let a bunch of kids run rampant in your car? What would be your opinion then?

Hi Andrew! I see your posts here and there. Good to hear from you! Haven't seen you in any GGF events these days. I still fondly remember (and am grateful ) for you & Anne rescuing me in the middle of nowhere. Kit

I get it just fine...you had no more plans of buying a tesla that day then they did. You have no more business in the car then they did.

The cars are supposed to be there for people contemplating purchasing a Tesla, not a toy dump truck! Kit

I get it also, but this is not your car, nor is it your dealership. You can make a comment to the dealership about the issue, but heck, for all you know, those kids are grand kids of the owner
If I was buying a car from this place, I would let them know that I wouldn't buy "that car" because they let the kiddies have at it. But again, I would have to be buying the car.... otherwise, it is theirs to do what they wish.

Did they let them run rampant in your car, or just their own demo models? My car the Tesla dealership has no ownership of so they have no say in allowing children to play in it. Teslas demo models on the other hand are theirs to do with as they please. If they want to stack a bunch of 2x4's on them, whatever they aren't mine.

It doesn't matter if anyone is truly in the market for the car or any other commodity, for that matter, or just grocery shopping. How many us go to the International Car Shows just to see the new cars or even to sit in them if we have the opportunity. The point is that the children were undisciplined by parents that just had no respect for any one else's property. Did the kids know which car the parents were definitely going to buy and contained themselves to walking around on the interior of that particular one? Didn't sound like it.
I'm pretty sure I've encountered these same parents and kids in the Toys R US stores at Christmas time, in the Cabelas store when I've gone to pick up fishing equipment and even in the grocery store. These will be the unruly kids that interrupt school classes and rudely interject themselves into conversations between adults. I think KitsKaBoodle's encounter just happened to be in the dealership of an expensive car. The problem really isn't the children. They will do as they are allowed. The problem is a lack of parenting. Sure, smack the kid's bottom side in public and it may result in a face-to-face with a Police officer. But it can be done in private and reduce the possibility of misbehavior in public.

I believe all you are saying and have seen it all myself, but him crying about it on the internet is not going to change the matter.

Those parents were as unlikely to buy a 2 seat sports car as he was. Theres no room in the roadster for more than 2 people. I used to go to every dealership every fall JUST to look at the new models with absolutely no intention (or ability) to buy one. I never even sat in one. I still dont sit in a car Im not taking for a test drive. When I go to car shows 2-3 times a week, I walk around with my hands behind me or in my pocket so I dont touch peoples cars. I TELL people when they or their kids put their hands or clothes on mine. I personally remember telling a person that my door mirror was not an armrest for him. He was the one sponsoring the show. I went and got my money back and left when he gave me a snooty look.

How do we know that the dealership didn't say to the kids "hey, go play with that car"?

Agreed...the thread was meant to be a rant but I have done something about it. And... I'm not done yet. I have already talked to the sales staff at Palo Alto headquarters and next I'm going to follow up with the mgr at the Santana Row store in a few more days.

None of you have a Fiero for the family car (if you have any kids). All the people I know who go to look at 2 seat cars dont take the kids with them to the dealer. I might have read into it wrong...I was thinking Roadster, not the sedan, they were looking at. Even at that case, my kids would not be playing in it in the showroom even if it was a van.

I think most of us have gotten off on the wrong tangent. The matter of whether it was a Vespa scooter or a Hummer dealership, how many kids they had is irrelevant. The problem and the rant was about undisciplined children running amock in a public place. It could as well have been in a lingerie shop and it's unlikely that they would have taken the kids in to outfit pre-schooler or primary school kids for their first day of school.

I know what your saying. Ive been yelled at by parents for yelling at their kids destroying my property right in front of them. I fixed one...when he threatened me for telling his kid to quit knocking my signs down with a hammer, I called the cops. They put him in handcuffs in the back of a cruiser while I talked to them...while his 10 year old stood there watching. I hope it was an elightening view for him.
