Yeah just imagine a 30,000 pound chinook rocking back and forth ! I noticed the cell network being down for about 5 minutes because of the activity. Earthquakes here are huge news, i know the Cali folks are probably laughing at us over this little shaking. I'll take a hurricane or 2 versus quakes . . . oh wait we have one inbound ! F$%K !

Blah...I just roll over, say "Far out", and go back to sleep.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., joked on Twitter, "Small earthquake in DC this morning ... someone must have dropped a copy of ObamaCare,"

I just spoke to a client in Chicago who said THEY felt it in the John Hancock Building downtown. Also, there seem to be reports from Milwaukee.

I swear, I felt not a single tremor here.

Felt it here at work about 60miles away from center. Imagine a 50+ ton particle detector walking back and forth.

I had a meeting at an agency in Langley, VA at 2:00 today. The earthquake hit as I was riding down an escalator to my meeting. I knew that something was happening when the escalator started bouncing up-and-down and swinging side-to-side.

The cool part was that I happened to be looking at the other escalator -- the one that goes up. One of the safety glass panels suddenly fractured while I was watching due to the motion. Don't get to see that every day!

I was standing at a urinal in the bathroom at work. Suddenly I was kinda wobbling like I was dizzy or lost my balance a little. Didn't think much of it until someone asked me a while later if I felt the earthquake. I was like, huh? It took me a while to put 2+2 together.

Same thing happened back in the late 80's. I was sitting in my car at the bank drive through when my car started to move like an extremely strong wind was buffeting it. It took a few seconds to realize that there was no wind blowing at all..

It was felt, but more in the "WTF" was that kind of way. Just a very slight swaying motion.

I was at home laying in bed on my laptop when all the glass in the house started vibrating. It seemed to last a good 15-20 secs in its entirety, I grabbed my phone and bolted down the stairs and outside- I didn't feel like being flattened in case it turned out to be bigger than expected lol.

I'm just happy the Fiero didn't fall cause the front end has been sitting on stands for a few days now and I'm actually surprised it didn't slip off. That would've been a mess to clean up. This was my 1st quake and I gotta say, it was awesome. Not just in the holy crap the world is shaking way, but the power of mother nature way . People here were hysterical saying things like the aftershocks are gonna be bigger/ tsunami is on the way- bunch of dumb pansies. They probably would've died in fear if it was a real quake and buildings actually started to come down. I just loled the entire time.

Here in DE they say we got a 1.5 - 2 quake. It was one of the most awkward feelings ever. But yeah, I work with CDMA equipment and it all pretty much shut down because the towers wanted to die. Delaware isn't nearly equipped for something like this. In a real emergency we're screwed for communication. I'm convinced, I'll fix and hook up the CB my dad has wanted me to have for years.

True. That would definitely get my attention. I wouldn't expect much structural damage, but lots of things can fall on a person in an earthquake like that, especially if people don't think earthquake safety as part of their lifestyles and use caution in what they put on shelves.

I was suprised how much the steel hanger and overhead lift swayed. The stanchheons were like trees swaying in the breeze. So glad it was minimal and no major damage was caused.

The local dj's here were taking it all in stride and were playing tunes that had a "shaking" theme to them. I kinda thought to myself " how sick we are! here we just had an earthquake and we are using it as a means for entertainment ! "

The wife said she felt the earth move, I wasn't with her but still took the credit. Told her it was a delayed reaction.

I don't think she bought it.

Yeah a 5.8 will get your attention, but the 7.3 Landers quake in 92 and the 6.7 Northridge quake in 94... Were probably the worst I remember when I lived in Cali. I mean those had me feeling "shakes" for a week or more afterwards. Trying to lay down at night to sleep I kept thinking we were having another one...

That Landers quake in 1992 dumped water out of my pool in Glendale, AZ. I was stunned, speechless, I had no idea what was going on.

Well I'm alive! I must say us east coasters are earthquake virgins. Morons! I just got home from a 16 hour shift. I had to stay all day because of this. About 30 minutes after the quake, every Tom, Dick, and Harry was in buying water. I realize we have a hurricane coming in 3 or 4 days, but it was no coincidence the rush started right after the quake. I work at a wholesale club, and we have the high upright steel, we actually saw it move, and some pallets shifted enough that we had to adjust them. I thought it was cool!

OMG that was scarry! I live about 9 miles from MIneral in Spotsylvania Va. and it was so loud and strong I thoght a plan carshed in my yard. I still cant believe our jeep didnt fall off its 4 jack stands the way the garage twisted and shook. Had it hit a few minutes later I would have been below it doing some welding; Lol, I probably would have knocked myself out trying to get out from under it. We got some damage, mostly broken glass, trim moldings popping out etc. I' m sure glade the Lake Anna nuke plant -not far away- came through it OK! ALmost forgot, seems my granson wont be startign hos first day of hogh school in the morning' a wall at the school has a big hole in and there are cieling tiles down everywhere and some other damages, I'm sure other structures in the aera were damaged too.

Yes, this is indeed true.

The scene reminded me of that scene in "Airplane"...

"She's starting to shake!....she's starting to shimmy!"

Being stuck in an elevator where I work now might be even more 'interesting' then when I was over there at NewsCorp/FoxNews...

(Well, If it was about a decade ago, maybe...)

"We're the last two people in the elevator, we must do our part to reploulate the planet - it's our DUTY!"

Earthquake myth – taking cover under door frames

Ummm.... yeah. Ever try to run somewhere during a quake? Its kinda a PITA. People trip and fall while trying to run to the office or kitchen to get under a "safe object". I can walk 3 feet and be under a door frame.....9 times out of 10 I will just stay where im at and enjoy the ride. When drywall starts cracking its time to find a door frame. Go ahead and have fun trying to walk to the dining room or office .

I didn't feel a thing, then again I was on the road. Maybe that had something to do with it.

I don't see where he said there weren't any fault lines in Virginia. What's your point? (I have an idea what it is, but I'll let you say it)

I felt in Lancaster County. I was sitting on my buddy's concrete garage floor and felt uneasy, little rocking. Stood up because I thought it was me and leaned against my truck and it was wobbling. My buddy who was standing in the driveway didn't feel anything.
