I was stationed at Cherry Point my entire enlistment after training from 99 to 04. If a police officer has any reason to pull you over there he/she will. He might be charged with evading just because he didn't notice the cop was trying to pull him over fast enough. I think I would rather deal with jail than deal with anyone in my command if I were him. He may take a hit on his rank, confined to barracks with 1/2 pay but if his PFT and Rifle score is high enough he should be able to get back up there if he applies himself and has an otherwise clean military record. If I had the funds to help him out right now I definitely would but times are hard for me and mine right now. If he is still in after I get all my bills paid I will send what I can.

If I'd had to stay around Havelock/New Bern that long I'd go nuts. My time at H&MS14 wasn't too bad or too long. Just right--about 9 months, then pcs to WestPac.

I am always on the side of someone who 'slips up' and makes a bad call. Everyone here knows that and more then a few grief me on it. They say that person don't deserve a break, don't deserve support or forgiveness, or even understanding. Yet some of those very same people are cutting huge amounts of slack here, where they would normally hang someone else out to dry for something even vaguely simular. And this isn't the only time that has made itself aware lately. I'm sure there must be some non-hypocritical reason or some error i'm missing with consistancy that just makes it seem that way. No one would just haphazardly label bad guys & good guys without a solid set of rules that apply to everyone equally.
For example: I would offer up that what Jarhead 2m4 did does not define who he is or the sum of his life. But he also deserves no more or less understanding or punishment then anyone of us, or anyone else who has made a bonehead move in the heat of the moment. He COULD have killed some one. He is a MARINE and from what I heard, more respect should be afforded them, as 'Honor' is among their highest calling. And as such he should be smarter with his actions then your average fugg-up.
But when it is all said & done, he is just a man, with all the faults & stupidity that comes with that. Just like EVERY ONE ELSE.
And most of you know me. I will not fault him this mistake. But unlike some here, I also afford that SAME grace to OTHERS when they 'fall down'.
I hope everything goes well for him and that he can move on from this with a productive, trouble-free life. And i'm sure he can, becouse he simply will not allow this hiccup in his life define him, or his life. Becouse that's how good, honest, honorable people look at themselves. And also how they look at others. I want to be one of those people.
And for the record, I am about as imperfect as they come, in every aspect of life. But i'm trying to be better. And not judging others too harshly is something I can put readily to work. All others, not just my favorites.
Just something to reflect on. I know I have.
Good luck, Jarhead 2m4. Although I think running from the cops is stupid & dangerous, and all my money is tied up in fruit at the moment, i'm pulling for you in thought, none-the-less.

I wondered how long it would take you to try to campare Jarhead to the Jackass star. Didn't take long at all.

X2. My last traffic citation of any kind was in 1985 (72 mph in my 928 ... back when 55 was still the national speed limit). That doesn't necessarily make me a better person than anyone else, it's just answering the question. I would expect that the majority of PFFers have never run from the police. "Everybody does it" is a pretty lame excuse.

From what I remember in the Air Force, US Government trumps local police. Marine Corp should be able to get him out of any jail whenever they want. When I enlisted I had a bunch of outstanding tickets. They all disappeared when I signed on the line.

How far away is he from his duty station? If he's to far then 1st shirt help is probably not going to happen. I've even had to bail out some of my guys wives. How much leave does he have saved or can use? This ain't a good situation for him. Sorry but I'm at the point of just getting by myself or I'd help
Just about 2 months ago, I was on a windy road with no shoulder getting pulled over. I didn't know what to do without having a shoulder, so I slowed to 20 and put my blinker on and waited for the next driveway which was only about 45 seconds away. I got tagged with running from the police. The guy had called backup and everything.
So did he tell you he was running or is that just what the ticket said? If he was truly running... he's being an idiot and I hope he learned his lesson. I can't give anyone any money right now, sorry.

Damn, that sucks... did you talk to the officer about it when he stopped you and explain the situation? What was the outcome?

When I pulled over, he came out with his gun and told me to put my hands outside of the window. He stopped in front of my window and asked me if I had any weapons and where they were. I didn't have any. He then asked me why I was running from the police. I told him I wasn't trying to run, but I didn't think it was safe to pull over because there was no shoulder and it was a windy road. He got my information and took it back to the car. Then, more officers showed up and came to my window asking pretty much the same stuff. Weapons, no, why were you running, I wasn't. When he came back he had the speeding ticket and the running ticket, and I asked him why I got it. He just got furious and said "I'm done with you. Leave."
So I left and got it lawyered down to a parking ticket. The bill just came in the mail today, actually. Or maybe yesterday, but I picked it up today. I think the officer was just having a really bad day because I don't see why he was so furious with me the whole time.
If he had a passenger and hit a tree, then would you be so understanding?
No, I would not be so understanding, nor would I be if I were aware that he had spent years acting like a total ass. If that has been the case, I haven't heard about it. In fact, I understand this event only to the extent of exactly what has been posted here.

That does suck... it's unfortunate, and there's a really thin line between public service, and an officer getting out of line. I think most officers go into public service with good intentions. I would guess that a lot of them see the same crap day in and day out, and they often come to expect the negative side of things... so when someone who's being courteous / safety concious like you does something, that's out of the ordinary. It's also part of their training to maintain a certain composure / confidence / directance (is that a word?) to ensure they maintain the upper-hand in any and every discussion while on duty with civilians.
Unless the officer just hated Fieros... he probably thought you were lying to him, or who knows... but anyway, it's done, good thing too! I wouldn't want that on my record!!!

Ha, I was in a 2005 Nissan Altima. It was a very "normal" car and I wasn't trying to draw attention to myself. But yeah, I think it was just age or him having a bad day. I don't blame him, and my traffic lawyer is awesome and always takes care of me so I wasn't that upset. Just confused.
Though one time, in my Fiero, I got a ticket for not having my lights on when they were definitely on and had been for awhile. My girlfriend at the time was with me, and she knows I had them on. I went to court for that one because it was just really stupid. I got the ticket dropped and just paid court costs. Every time I've been pulled over, it was an officer like the above. BUT I've had many other times when I wasn't in a car, and they were awesome and incredibly helpful. I don't THINK it's me, but it's seriously weird how many angry cops I've had pull me over.

EDIT to add ... Sorry Chuck for ignoring the topic. I got sidetracked with reading. I have monetary deadlines I have to meet or I would love to help Jarhead. I've met him a few times and he is a good guy. I an surprised this even happened. I feel bad 'cause I owe him for protecting our country. I am also in disbelief because ...

The days of your Platoon Sergeant, First Shirt or CO bailing you out and sweeping the issue under the rug with the military are over. I've bailed my fair share of Soldiers out of jail for drunk and disorderly, domestic abuse issues and just plain stupidity. The last one was about 2002 and that was a major accomplishment to cover that one up with the military.
This ain't your military anymore and this ain't my military anymore. No matter how much we shake our heads at how the military has changed since we were in, we can't change it back. (Words to me from my Father-in-law before Agent Orange took him from us 8 years ago.) The biggest reason why I hung up my 24 years with a smile on the outside and wincing on the inside.
That really sucks. I can't hardly believe it. Do they get all their enlistees from the church now a days ?
Although I respect your opinion, I'm gonna disagree with that. You can't fault someone for not wanting to sit around in jail the whole time they're waiting for their court date, especially if they have a job. And Bryan is no juvenile... I'm sure at his age, a judge will give no thought to his parents' action (or inaction) in the matter.
Edit to add: the $2300 was after the bondsman, whose fee is the $300 part of that.
No offense, but I always knew at any driving age, if I tried to play out run the cops and lose, My ass would be going to jail. Why would he even try? My dad would let me sit and think about it.

He called me a couple hours ago, but we didn't get to talk long before he had another call he had to take. Anyway, he said he never believed anyone should try to do what he did, and has even told others that "you can outrun the motor, but you can't outrun Motorola". But he was out late, saw what time it was and knew he needed to hurry to get back to base on time, and when a cop tried to pull him over, he panicked. He said it was an instant reaction that he didn't even think about it, he just took off. And sure enough, the cop got on the radio and told a buddy.
His court date is in August.
So, he's out now, and I'm hoping for another call to tell me the rest of the story.

They dont trump local police. Feds still have to abide by local laws and regulations. Local PD will "usually" turn over a soldier to him command without bail being posted as they know in additon to his unit forcing him to make his court dates, they will punish him both physically and financially on the .mil side. State and Federal govt make money off your F-ups.
Now its so bad, local LEO's contact the base provost for pulling soldiers over, even if they dont get a ticket. I got my ass chewed by the 1st Sgt for not passing up that a soldier had been pulled over for "suspected alcohol consumtion while driving." He had just left a 24hr fitness and was drinking from his canteen. He showed the cop and was let go, no warning or anything.
They are trying to get the army ready to cut down, and they're starting at the bottom unfortunately.

He is fracking USMC......They are allowed to get a little stupid, as are all military.........comes with the territory of defending the freedom to be azz-fingered by some fat beech TSA agent and having the bottle of water taken away from ya like a good little sheep.....
P-M me on it
while I totally support our troops, and thank them all for their service... I don't support stupidity.
if anything, he represents the USMC and should be held to higher standards. I don't agree that a guy... any guy.... that is issued weapons and is expected to be mature enough to decide who lives and who dies... is "allowed to be a little stupid". In fact, that scares me shitless that someone immature enough to try to out-run a cop is one who is tasked with protecting our country.
I hope he learns a lesson from this and matures very quickly ... and wish him the best after he gets out. but really.... trying to outrun a cop...? not a whole lot of sympathy from me on that.

this is coming from a future officer in law enforcement. Sorry to the family, he will just get out and think he can do it again. The long he sits the more he will never want to go back

I think he is out now and just because you have been arrested does not mean you have been found guilty of a crime… man I hope you are not going to be the “I’m the judge, jury and executioner” type of cop!!!

I'm not going to argue any statement here nor can I comment on the incident that took place until it is all over. I just want to thank those that offered to help and those that wanted to.
I spent 72 hours in county. During that time I had plenty of time to reflect on my actions. At this time I am preparing for my court appearance in just over a month.

Good luck. Dont let this define you, let it be a building block to being a better person.
Sometimes the worse thing we did is the one thing that makes us the best person we can be.

I always walk in, ask if anyone has any coffee/cigarettes/candy bars, and make sure to tell them that I will forever be in debt for whatever I can get.
I've never had a problem, and made tons of friends in jail.
