And since I drive as near the speed limit as I can, I stay in the right lane as much as possible, unless I need to merge over to make a turn. A little common courtesy is all that's needed, unfortunately it's miss named as it's not all that common.

There's always people in the right lane doing below the limit. And when there is congestion, some people still think you should get out of their way in the left lane. Sorry but at rush hour in Chicago there is no passing lane.

I'll say this... it helps to have a slower car too. I am a very concious and responsible driver when I'm in my Ford Explorer. Most times, I think I'm responsible in my Crown Victoria too... but the Crown Vic will run in the 14s... so I find myself gunning it sometimes just to feel the pull, hear the engine roar, and feel my back get pushed into the seat. I NEVER do that in the Explorer because it's like... why bother?

I'm thinking of selling my Crown Vic... but it's hard because it was my grandfathers...

That is why I bipass driving on the highways around Chicago. The last time I was on the roads the posted limit was 55 and driving at 70, I couldn't keep up with the traffic until someone would slam on their brakes. I just take it that the people of Chicago don't know their numbers as they are idiots as seen by who the elect to rule them.
I used to drive on roads 50 miles south of Chicago and pick up RT-39 to get to the Dells.

I did say that semis going 55 on a highway that cars do over 65 IS a HUGE problem. Yes cars going that are just as dangerous...beside people running into them from behind, others get frustrated stuck behind them, and cut people off, or weave in and out of traffic and can cause other cars to pile up while they keep going on their merry way. The car speed limit on interstates here is 65 and if there is much traffic and you do 65, you are going to get hit sooner or later. If traffic is light, it dont make any difference how slow someone goes if there in the right/slow lane. I drove stock cars on the track for years, and freeways are scarey to me if I try to keep at the speed limit. People are passing me on the right and left like Im parked. I generally go 75 to keep from getting sideswiped or rear ended.

* the reason here anyway for the lower speed limits for trucks started here years ago when the governors daughter was rear ended by a semi and killed. He pushed thru the lower limit. They do keep trying to bring it back up, but so fars failed.
