My younger sister works for a local morning news show. Rode with the parents in their van to get her (they wanted someone to push if they got stuck) Ended up helping a number of people. 4 for 5 so far. Parents twice, some chick in a Dodge Caliber, and a Tundra. Only guy I couldn't help get unstuck was drunk and insisted smashing the pedal to the floor. He's stuck on the curb now. Atleast a solid foot of snow with 1/4-1/2 inch of ice under it and there are so many people on the road. It's not the amount getting people its the ice under it all.
EDIT Make that 5 of 6. Forgot the Dodge Colt in the alley next to the parents house.

That storm's heading on up toward 84fiero123's location. Here's the latest forecast map from Channel 7 in Boston.
I think I am in that WTF Buy lots of beer area there, or at least close. So i will.!!! Buy lots of beer Those south of us are going to get it worse than we are. It has been a rather mild snowfall this year for us as I said before..
We never trust the weatherman up here. I watched all three local forecasts this morning and they were all different. We could get anywhere from 8” to 20”.
Always prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

70 degrees and sunny here in Eden. Suck it, haters!
Haters? Nope. The snow and ice kills off fleas and ticks. It also keeps the trash from the far western states from drifting in.
They are now saying 24-36 hours before the interstate opens back up.

well....its almost here.....it has crossed into SW MI luckily - it does look like it went a little more north, so Lake Michigan will pull out ALOT of the snow, and save the east side of MI a few inches of snow. but - still looks like a good 1/2 foot on the ground when I wake up.....

Attaching just a couple of pics of our current blizzard here in Tulsa.
40mph wind gusts, temperature slowly but steadily dropping (12 degrees last I looked), about 16" of snow and still coming down, snow drifts 30" and higher, hundreds of stranded cars, everything is shut down...setting new records for snowfall and accumulations.
Called in a couple of vacation days, dressed warm, coffee is perked, snacks galore, channel surfing on the TV, riding it out...
Your brother must be mistaken Chuck. Settled Science sez:
And Chuck, just incase you were wondering what you will be missing by not living in God's country, it ain't gonna be blizzard or near zero like up North, but it is gonna be uncomfortable here at my zip code.
Well, that probably feels better. Out here on the Evil Coast, we rely more on bathing.
Hope the ticks fall off soon.
Evil? We call it many things, Ignorant, socialist, ruined, but never evil. I'll add it to the list of things to use if I ever get in an argument with a third grader, or you.
Well....it's here..... snowin' an' blowin' like a S-O-B!!
I'd take pictures but you wouldn't see anything but blowing snow anyway so trust me on this. The storm landed about 5PM and has been building up steam since then. 6" so far and the winter storm advisory is in effect until 7PM tomorrow!

My God you are like a broken record. The more times you say it doesn't make it true. When have the Scientists EVER said that they can predict weather with 100% accuracy and that forecasting is a settled science. You've got a month and a half left of winter how are the figures looking for the area shown I wonder. How much water ya got in ye ol rain barrell?

That is how to aim high! I know it would be a challenge for you, but always try to expand your experiences.
That is a much more appropriate reply then my own. I would hate to live in an area affected by this kind of blizzard, and I am sure that this weather will result in injury and the loss of life to many Americans. So if I may retract my "suck it" comment, I would happily replace it with an invitation to a guest room in sunny Salinas to any forum member needing to get out of the snow for a bit.

GW people rely on NOAA (among others) and call their data "settled science"--or perhaps you mean NOAA is not made up of people in the science field? Lemme guess--instead of science--they just flipped a coin to make up this prediction?

More than I had the year NOAA claimed this year have less than. Must be nice to be able to cherry pick when their science is good (settled)and when it is just bad luck and therefore "anecdotal". (Every signle little bit of their total data is made up of bits and pieces of evidence that at some point in time would have been called "anecdotal")

hahaha you seem off your game tonight. Obviously everyone agrees with NOAA because they are not in the streets en masse protesting against them.
See I can regurgitate and take phrases out of context as well.
Oh and in case you are interested the map you keep showing for winter 2011 is from this webpage where they say "This seasonal outlook does not project where and when snowstorms may hit or total seasonal snowfall accumulations. Snow forecasts are dependent upon winter storms, which are generally not predictable more than several days in advance." http://www.noaanews.noaa.go...1_winteroutlook.html

11 p.m. and it's just about to finally stop snowing in Kansas City, although the blowing (winds 25 mph gusting to 36) is forecast to continue for another 12 hours. We have about 3 inches of snow accumulated on the north side of the house and it's deeper than 2 feet on the south side. Interstate 70 is closed all the way from Kansas City to St. Louis ... about 250 miles from border to border. Some locations in central Missouri have more than 20 inches of snow on the roads. A State of Emergency has been declared for eastern Kansas, the entire state of Missouri, and in Kansas City.
But watch the news ... it will be MUCH worse when it hits the east coast. Sorry to sound provincial, but it happens every time.

I had some fun when I left work. I went out to my car after leaving early. I started it up and noticed the volt light flickering and the needle hovering around 12 volts. Usually that's no big deal cuz the belt never catches right away when there is snow on it. This time though the needle never went up. I tried revving the engine to get the belt to catch with no effect. I popped the decklid and took a look. Somehow, snow managed to blow in from underneath and build up on top of everything. The pulleys were completely packed with snow. I have never had something like that happen before.
Long story short, I went inside and called AAA. Had to use a tow for the 1.5 mile trip home. Oh well.

I figure it's because the big news stations out there do the ratings dance so hard, and since the majority of their money comes from that coast it has the worst, or best depending on the show of everything. If they moved to St Louis it would suddenly be the worst his every single year.

Nope. The major factor is that all the broadcast networks and news services are either headquartered or at least have a major presence on the east coast. There is provincialism, too. Back in the '80s the written news policy in at least one New York City TV station prohibited reporting any news that occurred west of New Jersey.
