Time for some thread necromancy!

Well, I didn't get the Toro I've been talking about... yet... I'll try back with him next year, but, for the time being, I /did/ get a '66 Toronado in EXCELLENT condition Cost me $2,500, but it really is in stupendous condition for a 44 year old machine.

It's all factory, and all there, minus the windshield and air-cleaner. With very little rust, and a spotless trunk. It's still a Deluxe, in fact, it has every single factory option available The only problem I have with it, is the interrior is brown :-S But, hopefully the fore-mentioned Toro will be mine next year and I can put in some sexy turquoise. Will post pics in awhile...

Still gotta rebuild the engine... it runs smoothly, but doesn't have near the power it should. I'm thinking the fuel system is just full of gunk, really gotta pump the pedal to get it started when it's cold. I'll change fuel filter and try some seafoam and see if she livens up a bit.

Picture Time!

Every single piece of trim that's missing... is in the trunk... Found the Windshield wipers in the back-seat too!

Very nice car, I'd say it's worth the 2,500 dollar price. That's amazing that it's not covered in rust (or is there some along the bottom).

And for those of us without 30 inch screens, you can hold Ctrl with - + or 0 to change the zoom on the screen. It really helps to see the photos on a smaller screen.

Sorry, shoulda put some sort of warning on the topic :P I didn't think my cell-phone resolution was so ludicrously high!

There's a little bit of rust around the wheel-wells, but the under-side was under-coated, so it's completely clean. There is some bondo on the Drivers-side rocker as well, hard to say how extensive. But, that's the only rust on the entire car... un-speakable for Northern Minnesota!

Also, just finished fiddling with some wires... And EVERY SINGLE COMPONENT WORKS! XD The power windows, seats, everything works... It even has the earliest example of a trunk-release I've ever heard of. And a manual power-antenna switch... you have to hold it to make it go up and down... Wild. Came with a brand-new in-the-box rear bumper too.

I think I might have ripped the guy I bought it from off... I really didn't mean to... but, nothing worked on the lot, and the bondo scared me... I talked him down from $5,000...

Ah, yeah, I forgot to mention that. Not quite sure how I'm going to go about repairing/replacing that...

I had a 73 Eldorado that acted that way (tough to start/low on power).

Pulled the carb apart and the bowls were full of silt/dirt. Cleaned them out and it ran fine.

Just something to check on top of the fuel filter.

Also check to make sure your accelerator pump is squirting when you open the throttle. They tend to deteriorate.

Also the hard line between the fuel pump and carb was fine in 1966 when gas was “real”. My Eldorado started to vapor lock around 1985 when the “improved” gasoline with some EPA reformulations. I had to cut the hard line and loop a piece of fuel line up over the fender and back to cool the fuel before the carb (solved the vapor lock issue).

Yeah, everything will be getting re-built eventually... but, it'd be fun if I could get it going for a few months to enjoy before I park it and tear it apart. I'm almost certain it's the fuel system. Though, I should check the distributor points as well...

Can you pull apart that portion of the carb without changing gaskets? I've replaced a carb before, but when I start tearing it apart, this will be the first one I've worked on the internals...

There are still places you can get straight gasoline... I'm 80% sure that the only place I get gas from is still straight gas... I'll double check next time I pick some up.
