ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- There's been some confusion over the longer version of the 2010 census sent out to 250,000 households, containing 48 questions rather than 10.
"The American Community Survey is a legitimate survey sent by the Census Bureau," said BBB spokesperson Tara Sims. "And consumers do need to respond -- it is required by law, just like the 2010 census."
I knew the 2010 census had to be filled out by law, but I never heard of "The American Community Survey".

The American Community Survey (ACS) is a 21-page questionnaire generated by the US Department of Commerce under the auspices of the US Census Bureau. Funded by tax dollars, the lengthy questionnaire is mailed to 2% of the US population annually. The ACS has been criticized by many recipients due to its highly invasive questions, mandatory language regarding compliance threatening steep fines, and the dogged follow-up tactics often used by Census Bureau representatives to obtain completed forms.
The questions on IT are pretty intrusive.
"Does this house, apartment, or mobile home have COMPLETE kitchen facilities; that is, a sink with piped water, a stove or range, and a refrigerator?"
"Is there telephone service available in this house, apartment, or mobile home from which you can both make and receive calls?"
"Which fuel is used most for heating this house, apartment, or mobile home?"
"Last month, what was the cost of electricity for this house, apartment, or mobile home?"
"At any time during the past 12 months, did anyone in this household receive Food Stamps?"
"Do you or any member of this household have a second mortgage or a home equity loan on this property?"
"What is the main reason members of this household are staying at this address?"
"Person 1" "Where was this person born?"
"Is this person a citizen of the United States?"
"Did this person live in this house or apartment 1 year ago?" If not, "Where did this person live 1 year ago?"
"Because of a physical, mental, or emotional condition lasting 6 months or more, does this person have any difficulty in doing any of the following activities:"
"Has this person given birth to any children in the past 12 months?"
"Does this person have any of his/her own grandchildren under the age of 18 living in this house or apartment?"
"Last week, did this person do ANY work for either pay or profit?"
"At what location did this person work last week?"
"How did this person usually get to work last week?"
"What time did this person usually leave home to go to work last week?"
"For whom did this person work?"
"What kind of business or industry was this?"
"What was this person’s total income during the persons income in the past 12 months?
Since i'm moving in 2 months or so, I'm not going to fill any of them out, as the information would be false, and I have no Idea where I will be ending up.

Hmm, I thought I had read elsewhere here in OT, that they were not sending that long form out this year. I think madcurl posted it in the "census is coming" thread, but I do not rtemember if he included a link or not..

That form is not a census form. We got one back in the fall. Filled out the basic stuff and left the other questions blank. Thanks to people here on the forum, we realized it is not legit. If I remember correctly, it is actually sponsered by ACORN. After we sent the form in they called. We ignored the calls at first, but then we decided to answer so they would finally leave us alone. Unfortunately they always got my wife. they threatened her, and even called her names. When they started the rude behavior, my wife told them she knew they were fake and they were not getting any more information, and if they called again we would record the conversation and turn it over to our lawyer. We never heard from them again.

The American Community Survey is a separate part of the 2010 Census program. Some households and group quarters (such as college residence halls, skilled nursing facilities, group homes, barracks, and correctional facilities) will receive both the American Community Survey and the 2010 Census this year. Response to both is required by law
WTF would the GOVERNMENT send this form to a BARRACKS? If its the barracks like we have, they already have all the info they need, after all we enlisted in the Army and had to give out that info to join....
Talk about a waste of your tax dollars. LOL!!
Nevermind, I forgot, we actually may be hiding women/girlfriends or other peoples wives in our rooms. my bad.

Heard about this on Rush on the drive home today.. According to the caller it said it was official and you had to comply under law.
EDIT: This is the one that we were all getting up in arms about earlier but were told it wasn't going to happen and were just tinfoil hatters.. Guess we got lied to, again.

I heard rumors about this but they waited until after the deadline to send them out as I understand it to people that did not respond earlier. If that's true or not I don't know, but IF I got one I'd use it for TP if I wasn't afraid it would plug up my septic system so I'd probably use it to line psycho's litter box and then send it back to them.

I haven't turned my short form in. I think my deadline is in 2 weeks. I know it said 'as of April 1' in the instructions.

I know it exists but has anyone actually gotten it with the census or was it independent of the census.
I received both but not together. Filled them out and sent them back. They are not a short and a long form. They are separate forms and you need to do both. Both are done by the census bureau.
It cost the taxpayer 65 cents if you mail them back and 55 dollars if they have to send someone.
Incidentally, this is the second one I've received. I received one in 2005.

I still haven't received my census form. My wife called and they told her they would send another one by April 9 if they haven't received one from me. They aren't going to receive anything from me if they don't send it. I got a letter at the end of February telling me it was coming and another letter a couple of weeks ago asking me why I hadn't sent it back. I never received it, duh!
