A 1980's honda 250. I got off my nice and safe quad and got on this thing. 4th gear around a corner. Rolled it over on top of myself. My leg got caught in the nerf bar and stayed there. *snap*

I had a couple back in 1979 or 80.....one was just like the one in the E-bay ad,a 175 Yamaha 2 stroke. I could pull a wheelie forever on that thing. I also had a 250R Honda....I remember bringing home the 175 in three pieces once. Our motto was "If you don't wreck at least 3 times while you are riding, you weren't riding hard enough."........... I never really got hurt to bad. Thanks for bringing back some fond memories. I will try and find some pics to post.

Cool. I like to see pics of them in their days. I ride is a honda 200s 4 stroke auto clutch. But I got a higher compression piston coming to compliment my new cam. I have rode a 350x and that thing had some power. Haven't been on a 2 stroke one, yet.

had a yamaha 175 trimoto when I was a kid. Thing was way to big for me lol I had to stand on the fender and jump in there backwards with the pull string to get it to start. My friends found it funny...but they weren't laughing when I would smoke there ass riding around. That thing was quick!

I had a 125, 250x, and 350x all hondas in the mid 80's they were all a lot of fun. If you know how to ride them you will not roll them. I was almost always at wide open throttle and never had a problem. Most people tend to shift their weight the same way that you do on a motorcycle and that just does not work.

I have the fastest stock cylinder ATC at the drags.... Most of the time i'm also faster than the ATC's with the aftermarket 330cc cylinders. Its all in the tuning & gearing.
The highly modified Banshee's are faster than me but they do have a good 20 hp more than me. I blow away any stock or lightly modified Banshee.

yea it was a lot of crap for nothing. They were only as dangerous as the idiot riding them. I rode mine through all kind of fields and terrains. Did I wreck it yep..but it wasn't because the bike was dangerous or unstable. It's because the rider was!

Exactly! A while back there was a report that showed the # of 3-wheeler related injuries compared to the # of 4-wheeler related injuries. The # was EQUAL.
I think the worse thing that happened in the ATV world is the HUGE automatic 4x4 machines. Anyone can get on one & go.... and go anywhere. This is why I took my 250R off the trails & just race it on the track. The heavy 4x4's were tearing the trails up but the people with the sport machines who are limited as to where they can go were being blamed... I watched one guy on a 4x4 sit in a stream gnawing away at a bank trying to get out. A few weeks later it was all eroded & the EPA stepped in & closed off the whole trail. The trail had been there for at least 20 years prior.
Sorry about the rant.... If you cant tell, its a sore subject with me.

I haven't done any trail riding yet. But when I do I will probably be the only 3 wheeler out there. In the beginning there were only 3 wheelers, not quads. So all the injuries were from 3 wheelers. Then as the 3 wheelers became better, they came out with 4 wheelers that were also better, and when people got on their new 4 wheeler they weren't getting hurt like the earlier people getting on there new 3 wheelers. So simple minded people figured that them 4 wheelers must be safer then those crazy triangular machines.

I always got complements when I rode my 185s on the trails. I dont use it too much now but it still starts on the 2nd pull!
Funny, I bought it over 15 years ago for $500. Still had the little nubbies on the original tires! (it was 12 years old) The guy rode it around his yard only a couple of times & parked it in a shed.

My 200s has been beaten to hell and back and still starts on the 1st or 2nd pull. Its hard to kill these old Honda 4 strokes. Thats why I decided to bump the compression ratio up a bit. Going from a 7.8:1 piston to a 9.5:1 piston. Should give it a little more power, and hopefully not make it to much harder to pull start

We had a hard-tail Yamaha 3-wheeler at the farm. It was great. I started riding it when I was probably 8yrs old or so, whenever I was big/strong enough to handle it. I rode on it as a passenger before that. I spent many hundreds plus hours riding in bumpy fields and through the woods on it with never a mishap. Its all about the driver, I don't think it was an inherently dangerous design, just dangerous/stupid riders.

I don't use my pull start. The string snapped and I am too lazy to redo it. I just use a rope around the cage the pull start catches. You can still get all but the housing new for them too.

Hello, the two front wheels are in front with a very low center of gravity where as the ATC has a very tippy high center and one front wheel. The TREX will do circles around most cars let alone a ATC.

I will have to try and post pics of all of my trikes later, I have quite a few. And just as a note ATC's can be road legal and are legal to be imported and have been able to be for years.

From what I read, originally back in 87, or whenever they did the ban, it was a 10 year ban. But then the one of the last things Bush did while in office is make them permanently illegal.
