Two stories about three wheelers.

First, I can't remember exactly what year it was, 1974 or 1976? Anyway, my dad went down the the Honda dealership and bought 5 brand new Honda ATC 90's. It was the first year they were made. We rode the crap out of those things, wore them out and bought more, wore them out and then the 110's came out, got 5 of those and kept getting them until the quads came out. My oldest brother had a custom offorad shop for a few years and one of the services he offered was custom built three wheelers. He had a few that were originaly 110's that were bored to 132 and burned alchol - Had custom stretched tube frames and he used these to do a lot of Sand drags uphill in the Glamis Dunes near Yuma. He also had a few 250R's that were tricked out with aftermarket frames and extended swing arms, hoped up motors, custom pipes, etc. and he built several custom three wheelers that had a Yamaha 360RD 2 stroke twin. It was absolutely ridiculously fast and scary. I remember running down the airstrip at Ocotillo Wells. I was in thrid gear and was going so fast that the tires were expanded and rubbing inside the fenders. They can be dangerous if not takin seriously. The first 200 Big Red I rode was my Uncles and I was "showing off" - going too fast and teetering it back and forth on one rear and the front - lost control and hit a telephone pole. I had a few bruises but nearly totaled the wheeler - bent the frame and forks, snapped the handle bars off, etc..... I have flipped my share of them over backwards as well. Before the quads came out, I had moved to Idaho and hauled/dragged a few deer and Elk with the old Big Red. They were great fun and if I could find a decent one in good shape, I would have another one. I have quads now and would not trade them but I'd like to have a three wheeler to play with.

Second:

My buddy just bought a Gold Wing with a trike conversion. He has been riding road bikes - Gold Wings - for years. He has completely worn out 3 Gold Wings over the years. We go pick up his new trike and as we are leaving the dealership, he pulls up to the exit for the parking lot and has to come to a quick stop due to traffic. He puts his feet down as he comes to a stop and I start laughing at him. He looks at me as if to say "what's so funny?". At that time, the traffic clears and he takes off - feet still down and he runs one rear tire up the back of his leg. It's funny now but at the time I thought he tore his foot off. No broken bones but I bet he walks with a limp the rest of his life. I guess the "moral of the story" is: Anything can be dangerous if you are not familiar with it or are not completely informed of the operation, etc.

Just bought some more wheelers, so I figured I would bump this up and throw in some pics.

1985 250sx

1983 250r

1984 200m and 200x

And the big, depressing box

Best part is that all it cost me was $100

I got the 250sx running and switched out the front end on it.
Looks like a totally different bike.

Nice!

Found some pics:
The 185s in the snow...

My White & Blue 250r with three other R's & my 240cc Blaster...

My off-road collection minus the 185 in front of the S-10 I used to have...

Nice collection.
Both my brothers have blasters

I want to get that 250r or 200x running so I can start controlling the clutch on my own

I also switched out the gross hand grips on the 250sx with some nice honda ones. My friend also brought me some rear tires and rims for the rear of it.

Thanks! I wish I could ride them more often. The bike needs the connecting rod replaced & the Blaster has such high compression I have to use VP race gas. 105 oct or better. $$$
The 250r is obviously just for drag racing.

So.... my oldest machine (185s) is the most reliable.
