Don't forget the headstock!

Just a quickie reply..don't expect to get any permanent result from a spray-can paint finish. It is so full of thinners to make the low pressure system work, there is very little 'body' to the paint, and it will never go really hard. So it will mark and scratch far easier than before. To avoid the disappointment of all that hard work going to waste, why not take it to a local bodyshop, and ask them to spray say 6 coats on for you? They could even spray it for you in the same colour they are are using at the time, so long as you like it...and it would cost you very little Best way, is two-pack. Base colour and 6 coats of clearcoat, and baked on at low temp.

For my own guitars I use spray lacquer. The automotive touchup paint cans actually work well on guitars. I do a clear coat over. The only thing with lacquer though is that it takes a while to cure, so it needs to stand for a couple of weeks so you don't mark up your work. I find for deep colour, lacquer is still a fine finish and easy to repair.

This 1978 Squire Bullet I resurrected and gave to my son. It is General Motors metalic green in lacquer with clear coat. (all new hardware)
