A journalist from an Iraqi-owned newspaper in Cairo stood up and threw one, then the other of his shoes at President Bush. the news made a point of saying the President was unharmed, TWICE in the 15 seconds they ran the video clip and interrupted normal TV to show it...

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Just thought I'd share so you can be on the lookout for seeing the clip yourself

For those who don't know, in Arabic culture and in the middle East, to throw ones shoes at another is an insult. Likewise it is an insult to take your shoe off and hit the poster of the person who you wish to insult... like Saddam during 2003.

Its a way of saying "Your not worth the ground I walk on..."

Breaking news, "Two Nike missiles fired at president."
President says "shoe fly don't bother me." but, had I known he was a Biped I wouldn't have raised my head back up.
President defensless, No one there to untie his shoes.
Conspiracy theorist say." there was second shoe'er."
D.C. Department of sanitation anounces Hugh shoe sale begining at the end of January 2009 due to shoe sail.

Late Night TV is going to eat this up.

You mean kind of like how you and the other Libs on the forum have been dodging any discussion of the IL Gov arrest? Then the Clinton, errrr, OBAMA staffers "yeah I talked to him...no I didn't......." claims. Obama deserves better than Clinton re-treaded staffers.

I watched that game today and it made me want to go out in the -12°F windchill so I could be someplace pleasant. My gosh, when are they going to realize Herm Edwards can't coach?

secret service did epic fail there.

Is it just me, or it the president grinning ear to ear after the first shoe? He barely flinched on the second, then waves off the secret service. Considering what happened, he took it quite well. Those shoes were flying! Probably would have hurt a bit.....

Lighten up, its a shoe. Of all the things that could be throw at you in a country like Iraq a shoe is pretty low on the lethal list.

{qoute}
"After the news conference, the president took a 15-minute helicopter ride through dark skies over Baghdad to Camp Victory. Telling hundreds of troops he was "heading into retirement," Bush blamed Saddam for the 2003 invasion and said, "America is safer and more secure" than it was before the war." {end of qoute}.

Wow! "Heading to retirement." Those words should have never been spoken. That would piss me off it I was still over there and he's heading back to his cushy lair in Crawford.

we probably spend to much money on shoes over here to waste them by throwing them at someone. I mean come on, you throw a shoe, then you have to walk home barefoot, doesn't sound to smart to me. Not to mention the other guy now has an extra shoe.

Under Sadam, no. He would have been dead before the second shoe was thrown. He has more freedom than he has ever had and to thank the POTUS, he insults him. Brilliant!

the only thing that would have made it better would have been contact with his face.
I think it would have been like Fabio and the bird. I am a big fan of slapstick in just about any form and this would have been like Mad mag's Alfread E. Newman meets Jackass.
even so I still LMAO!

I guess I'm in the minority on this one. Whether it was President Clinton (whom I have absolutely no respect for), President Bush or President Elect Obama, I am sincerely disappointed in that anyone got the chance to throw anything at our President. I know that no matter who the President is, someone won't like him but, he is still our President and I don't see this act as a personal attack on just him, I see it as a personal attack on all of us. Others obviously won't or don't agree. I'd be just as ticked if it had been Clinton or Bush. But then, I see the office, not the man in this.

No, I am not suggesting that we bomb anyone except maybe the organization he represented.

Ron
