Yeah... That's what I figured... Maybe some kind of online design service...? Or further your education, to find a job that won't make you be on your feet all day?
OR... You could move to the Philippines for about 5 years, and not have to do anything, except for swimming in the ocean and observing all the beauties!! I've been there a couple times... It's a very beautiful country really...

Get a franchise in something you enjoy. I hear they don't have any good BBQ places in CA. I know you like Mexican food, but there are surely more than enough of those restaurants where you are.
Take classes in something like web design, and buy a big honkin computer to start doing websites for people.
Shucks, now is your chance to hang out at the instersection with a sign and see how much you can rake in.

Last time I had that much disposable income, I bought a house.
If you already have a house or that's not an option, I'd recommend low risk investments. You should be able to get 5% or better in some long term CDs. While it's not much, given the uncertain status of the stock market, I wouldn't risk more than you can stand to lose on any stock investment.
I also doubt I'd buy real estate in California, unless you find a bargain at a foreclosure auction. That might be something to check on with the downturn in the real estate market.
I'd also make a list of the things you've wanted to do over the last few years, "if only" you had the extra scratch.
I should at least receive a sum equal to my medical bills, around $50,000. I also realize that not only have I been completely without income for the past year
If you have been without a job or income for the past year, and have $50K in medical bills, wouldn't you want to use the money to pay off said medical bills??
Oh, man. What I wouldn't have done several years ago. I've watched google stock go from $85 when it IPO'd in '04 to its current $527. Or even Apple, I sold earlier this year around $94 for money towards down payment on a house. Apple is sitting pretty at $137 today. I'd put a portion in high risk ($12K) and a portion in low risk ($12K), and a certain amount towards some type of passive income, whatever floats your boat. Self-serve car wash, coin laundry, vending, etc. Passive income is where its at. You start small and over time build it up, eventually it will make more than you did actively working and thats when you retire if you choose.
Here in Ohio, self car wash is anywhere from $750K to a rough $1mil. An SBA loan will generally require at least 10% towards to the loan. If you find owner willing to finance you can likely get around SBA altogether. In CA, I can only imagine what a similar property would run.
Use a financial advisor for advice. Roth IRA grows tax free. No cost/low cost mutual fund investment.
Its been a short while since I messed with my Roths, and I have a short term memory, but Roth is limited to $4K annual deposit. I don't recall there being a way around it. Traditional IRAs are the same. That would leave $46K without a home.

I didn't say I have $50,000 in outstanding medical bills. All medical bills have been paid. The lawyer stated that they tend to calculate the "pain and suffering" based on the amount of medical expenses encurred. Nobody is getting stiffed.
I didn't say anyone is "being stiffed". Just trying to understand the situation better.

With all them coins think of all the wells we could throw money into for some damn great wishes. I figure the more wishes the better chance of some of them coming true.
OMG I just thought of another great idea. What if we bought the fountains and or wells to throw the money into? Then we could get the money back!!!!!!

I'd give it back, and watch where I was walking next time. With just the little info I have seen in the first post of the thread, I don't see where this is anyones fault but your own. You asked.

So everyone else that walked near that pot hole that day, fell in also. I bet not.
Edit to add, I guess to me, this would no different then walking into a STOP sign pole, or a trash can, or stepping off the edge of the curb, etc. I've seen many potholes in parking lots, most anywhere you go. I have not stepped in one yet.

Pay for medical costs? isn't that kinda the point of suing them in the first place? Pretty sure the point of suing someone isn't for fun money, its for actual damages.

it is paying for damages, he has permanent nerve damage which means he may not be able to do the work he once did, so they are paying for a way for him to still make a living the rest of his life.

Well what if the stop sign pole is bent over in front of a trash can in route to a curbed crosswalk? At that point is someone responsible to keep a public area reasonably safe. I'm only asking because you have already shown that you are all knowing.

I believe he said his medical bills have already been paid. Just because you keep up on those bills while waiting for the outcome of a potental lawsuit doesn't mean that you can't recoup that money. The alternative would have been to ignore those bills, have them go to collections, etc. and then possibly lose the case and be stuck. It sounds like he paid them off and is looking at recovering those costs and perhaps a bit more for the P&S (nothing wrong with that).
I would agree with you if there were unpaid bills lying aorund, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

No, I don't recall asking your opinion on my injuries or my legal action. I've only asked for financial advice. You have the right to inject your opinion in to the discussion, but don't pretend that it was solicited.
