I am using the Royale Noir theme that MS Experimented with... It does not require any cracked files or hacks.. No third party programs. Just drop the files in the Themes folder, and double click on the file. Choose Royale Noir, and away you go.
Royale is the theme used in XP Media Center. The Noir part makes it a darker Charcoal color...
I like it because of the muted tones. When I get a message or a window changes, it flashes orange...
Click for a larger view. Grey Bar in the start menu is covering my name.

Brings a good question. Why doesn't MS have more themes available without using window blinds?
Seems with all the power tools and such that they would have done more with it by now. Here is a Zune screenshot, I like it, less bright than the options I had. Brad

Thanks, its a picture Silentassassin185 took when going home from one of our get togethers. He does manage to take some awesome pictures, despite his "short comings" jk

It's from Alienware, a program called AlienGUIse. Came installed on my computer, but you can download it here It is more of a skin but it has all kinds of neat little features that take up space. Edit: the one I use is called Xenomorph

I also tried the Royale Noir theme, but it did something nasty to my GUI, causing a crash and reboot every time I tried to switch themes. Yes, I installed the patch. And I followed the instructions. Oh well, the Zune theme is better anyway.
Ironic that the "charcol" theme is so popular. Its the default Vista theme.
Yeah, when my buddy showed me a screenshot of his Zune theme, my comment was that it looks very Vista-ish.
That being said, I did really like the looks of Vista when I was running it from ~June to October this past year, but I didn't like the amount of memory it took up and that it asked for my permission 50 times whenever I tried to install something.. When I switched back to XP Pro, I changed the theme a bit to make it look more Vista-ish as well, though, black backgrounds to things like the taskbar and such. It's a much prettier look
I would run the Zune theme, but I don't have service pack 2 on my computer, and apparently it cares.

Hmmm. Odd.. I have not had any issues with it on any of the PCs I run it on... (6), and what patch?
There is no patch required to run this. This is actually an authentic MS Visual Style. No hacks or mods needed...

ARGH! There's a hacked version of Royale Noir floating around. I accidentally got that one instead of the original. I tracked down the legit version, and returned the GUI to its original, unmolested state. Now everything works fine.
Just to make sure nobody else accidentally gets the hacked version, the authentic one can be found HERE.
The color scheme is similar to the PFF website. That's pretty cool.

Well, since I found a lite version of Windows to install, cleaned up a bunch of stuff on my D drive, purchased a WD external HD to backup my back up folders/files, I've come back to this thread to treat myself to a new skin. I went to AlienGUIse™ Theme Manager found here:

So I'll play with that for a while. Nice thing is that I don't have to run Window Blinds to use it. Anybody have any other fun stuff they want to share?
Edit... OK, I installed Xenomorph and it is more than just a skin. Very cool! I love the pulsing buttons when I mouse over them, and the awesome graphics! Thanks for the link topher!

Since we're talking about XP Themes, does anyone know anything about Vista Transformation Pack 7.0?
I just scanned 8 or 9 websites about it. Most sites all say the same thing, but one site said that Windowblinds was required and another said that it's Trialware...?
I thought it would be fun to have, but the ONLY thing I want out of Vista is the transparent windows; the rest of it I do not want! Is there a theme out there that simply gives you transparent windows?
