So my mom just gets home and it's pouring rain, as it has been for the past 2-odd hours. She parked in the garage and the car's dripping water everywhere. I notice most of the water is standing on the car and I offer to dry it off, if I could find the absorber towel (two wrings and it'd be dry).
She says "No!! It's dirty! You'll rub the dirt in!".
Okay... there was absolutely zero logic contained in that last statement. At all. So I give her the big "wtf" (as she's been known to be confirmed wrong on a number of occasions). We go back and forth for about 5 minutes, me saying how incomprehensibly stupid she's being. During which she gets in the car and threatens to drive off so I can't... CAN'T... dry her car. At this point my head nearly explodes that any member of my family could be this exceedingly daft...
Does her argument have any shred of sensibility to it? Drying a car that had a thin layer of dirt on it after a hard rain? Her car looked sparkling clean under the rain. I don't see how drying a slightly dirty car could have a worse effect than the water spots that are inevitably going to be left behind tomorrow morning...

You can leave some nasty swirls if there is still dirt on the car, water spots can be acidic but highly unlikely that they are so highly acidic that they will etch the car quickly. What you could have done is offer to wash off the car and then dry it.

I would say if it was a hard rain, and the car was merely dusty, that hosing it down and then drying it off, probably isn't going to hurt anything. BUT...if there IS any residual grit, as Quantum says, it'll leave some nasty marks, and you won't know you're even doing it till it's dry. Better to wash it, then dry it, as Quantum suggested, just to be on the safe side.

if you rub the dirt hard enough you will scratch the finish. Id call that "rubbing the dirt in' myself.

If were your Mom, I'd stop washing your underwear.
She's right, you're wrong. For me, unless I wash the car beforehand, I don't dry it off. A hard rain isn't good enough to get dirt off a car, if you go dry it you'll just be rubbing the coarse dirt into the paint. That'll cause more damage than the water spots will.

I am wondering also. I wonder how, that if his Mom was wrong, how did it make her stupid? There is a diference between stupidity and ignorance. Here, let me illustrate.

Ignorance is just merely not knowing that there is dirt on the car still. Stupidity is not recognizing that "No!! It's dirty!" is logic.

What is you Mom's phone number? I would like to call her and tell her the same thing. For allowing you to stay in her house.
I wonder what his mom said after he said he was sorry that he acted like an ******* to her?
Now THAT's funny.
What are the odds he'd ever admit to himself that he was wrong about ANYTHING, let along admit it to someone else? And then to go so far as to say they were right and he was wrong, AND apologize? I've heard of longshots before, but I'm not taking that bet at any odds.
No, not just about you. About everyone that thinks I'm a complete and total jackass for disagreeing with my mom. Moms are just people, same as everyone else in the whole freakin' world. And when you aren't too excited about someone who brought you into this f*cked-up world, you tend to see them just as another person. Maybe your moms were uber nice, did all kinds of nice stuff for you, and so forth... but what about a mom who works all day and all night, and is never even around to talk to? And the bill collectors still call all the time? So on and so forth... she's no longer a "lovable, unconditionally awesome mom". She can be at times. But sometimes we have arguments just like every other group of two that are around each other way too much.
PEOPLE CAN BE WRONG. In this case it's me... but ARGUMENTS are NOT a taboo thing between a person and their parents! Geez...

so the reason she wasn't around was because she was working all the time to raise you and provide you with a good life?
I think that her working all the time and with bill collectors still calling you guys. means she HAS to work that hard. maybe help her out with some bills of yours and she would have the more time to spend with you.
she rasied you and works hard TO take care of those bills, I think that alont qualifies her as a "unconditionally awesome mom"

Maybe if she weren't busy spending her credit card money at JC Penny and Home Depot, buying all sorts of new crap left and right and letting it sit in the box for months and even years... et cetera, ad nauseum, then she wouldn't have bill collectors all over the place. She makes a crapload of money... but decided to blow almost all of it on a wreck of a house. I should note that she never buys food or clothing for me either... the only thing she pays for is the electricity and gas. I buy everything else. As for the house? There's an extra room here. What else is she gonna do with it? Store more JCPenny crap in it?
Sure that may be short-sighted and selfish at first glance, but I appreciate it more than it sounds. Point is, she's just a human being, not a "god" who can do no wrong. It's only right to be able to argue your point sometimes.

So Falcon4 is an ass because he hates his life and that's his mom's fault for not being rich enough to stay home and play with him and provide him with everything his heart desires.
Too bad you didn't grow up the child of millionaires like the rest of us.

Gee, some of you guys are mean. He offered to dry mom’s car...not sure about the point of arguing. CA real estate is expensive, if mom bought anything, congratulations it is an accomplishment, my 2 shitty houses are worth a lot and always need home depot parts. Be the good son and remodel the kitchen. I have 2 great kitchens built with home depot parts and everyone says so.

Well you sure as hell act like it, thinking I'm a dipshit for not worshipping the ground my mom walks on, as if she's a queen that gives me everything I ever wanted...

I guess I am out of touch... Disagreeing with your mom is not the point in my mind, but the way you berate her is the point. This is the way you you talk about you mom to complete strangers... the woman who gave you life, gave you a home, and nutured you? (maybe she did'nt, ergo the attitude).
Of course everyone is human, and flawed, but you sure will not see me berating my mother on a public forum. I'd give her the shirt off my back and treat her as if she was a queen, in spite of any flaws, simply because raising me was no easy task. You should be thankful that she still is providing for you enough to not berate her.
I am curious as to what her response would be if she saw this thread. Who knows, maybe she'd laugh it off... Like I said I am out of touch.
BTW, you are right that arguments happen. Maybe you should move out of her crappy house into your own, and then... just maybe you'd appreciate her a little more. And the arguments? Perhaps there will not be any since you will not be in her home to get the calls from the bill collectors.

So if living with your Mom in her house is so difficult, why don’t you move out.
Some of us here live in the real world, not your fantasy land where you are the one and only person who is always right.
You say you are 20, why are you still living at home?
Most men, and women move out as soon as they can so they don’t have to deal with their parents rules.
They can be difficult for young adults to deal with believe me I know. My Dad was a ragging alcoholic. But I don’t hold that against him. Even tho it killed him, and almost killed me, I myself am a recovering alcoholic, 20+ years.
My Mom was always there for us when she was there, she held 2 jobs to, she worked outside the home and inside the home.
You don’t think your Mom is great, fine.
Wait until she dies, you will have no one to live with or listen to your bull.
I lost my Mom, and Dad years ago. You don’t realize just how much they mean to you until they are gone.
Be thankful that your Mom is willing to put up with your crap kid.
Wait until you have kids of your own, and you have to work 2 or 3 jobs to put food on the table, and a roof over their heads.
The older guys and gals here know what I’m talking about. You don’t know what you are until you have to take care of some besides yourself.
You Mother obviously Loves you, why I don’t know.
Maybe because you are her son and the love of a mother for her children is unconditional.
It doesn’t matter how big a jerk you are she will always love you.

Doesn't sound like a disagreement to me. Do you always run roughshod over your Mom?
