Actually, it is not as banal or stupid a question as it might first appear..I am positive that socks selection can reflect personal traits etc.. just want to see if my theory works..will tell you when I have 50 replies!!

It was white socks with grey bottoms from K-mart. They were cheap, really cheap. Then I found a realy good deal on some Dockers. Now its earth tones and neutrals. Dockers makes some realy good socks.

Usually dark blue or black if I'm wearing sweat/long pants (which is 99% of the time). If I'm wearing shorts, then lighter colored socks (blue, brown, grey) are okay. However, I'd rather go barefoot than wear white socks with long pants.

White socks unless I'm getting ready for work. Then, while I'm wearing my black uniform and black boots, I'll wear white socks. Now, if I'm running around in my shorts or sweats, I'll wear white socks.

What does that say about me? That I'm generic and boring? WTH. It works.

for work: Typically Khaki, maybe dark blue.

for home: white

99% of them are Gold Toes. IMO best socks made.

Red neck, white socks and Blue Ribbon beer!

They have to be crew socks, I hate tube socks. Black on the rare occasion I dress up a little.

Word up on the crew socks.

I wear plain black socks. My shoes are black and most of my pants are dark, so it makes sense. The last person I worked for insisted I get black socks so you wouldn't see a band of white above my shoes.
I'm not the sort of person who owns more than one kind of sock.

Black or blue for formal or officewear.

White for casualwear.

Unless I can get away with sandals - then I wear none, of course.

Mostly dark blue. Second choice would be gray.
Maybe other colors if they're all in the dryer with my other stuff and it's all I can find, or all that are clean.
Tonight I'm wearing kind of flesh-colored socks. Same color as my chukka boots. (I'm at work.)

For work, black with white bottoms, for home and leisure, white footies. No crew or tube socks ever.

All white crew for summer. No matching needed and dyes are poison. Wool for outside work in what ever color I can find in the winter, usually gray.

I pick my socks by thickness and length, most of them are white

Dress / work - dk blue, black or brown thin nylon. Home / leisure - Summer - no socks, Winter - dkblue, gray or black crew socks.

My work only allows us to wear blue socks, if we wear their uniform and since they pay for them, I wear them.

casual wear will be white crew socks.

My daughters on the other hand wear brightly colored and crazy pattern socks, they are 13 and 17.

Anyone remember toe socks?

White, nice and thick because of the kind of work I did and being on my feet for hours. They give me the most comfort. Still wear them unless I go out in a suit, rare but it happens, mostly for wedings or funerals, then black,

White with Hanes on the toe. That way, I can tell they're socks and not really long mittens.

my favorite sox are blue and white and have penguins all over them ^_^
all my others are stripey and strange-patterned. one pair has little pigs and cows and ladybugs on them.
i don't own any plain white socks anymore. gave 'em all away to my softbutch girlfriend.

Black or olive drab polycotton/wool blend socks 5 days a week.

white crew socks on the weekends.

Mine are a blue/grey mix Thorlo hiking sock. I wear because of the padded heel/toe.

Hmmm... Don't wear socks out here much in the summertime. Too dang hot! Mostly just flip-flops. But when I do put on my tennis shoes to workout, it is white crew socks. (Sorry Roger, colored socks with tennis shoes is what is nerdy. )

In the wintertime, it is cowboy boots with white socks too. If I ever have to dress up, which is rare, the socks match what I am wearing. Those just mostly sit in the drawer.

White 90 % of the time. Black for formal occasions.

A family member bought me 2 pair of sandals and complained that I never wear them. I finally did when I found myself having no socks left (all were in the laundry). This was at the Eastern POCI Event, and with not much sleep, I forgot to bring suntan lotion. Burned my feet pretty bad. It's weeks later now and they still haven't gone back to the color of the rest of my foot.

White with the grey heel/toe during the week, Brown on sundays.

I wear socks that match either the shoes or the pants, unless I'm wearing shorts.
Then I dont wear socks.

It all depends on the outfit. I like funky socks. And yes I own toe socks.

Most of the time my socks match the outfit I am wearing.

Black socks for work clothes, white socks usually the rest of the time. Apparently I'm officially an old fart now... had a kid comment that it was aweful warm to be wearing my socks that high a couple of weeks ago. Yikes... Just a normal set of white socks with the gold tip while wearing shorts. I hardly ever wear shorts and hadn't noticed that noone wears normal socks that go about a 1/3rd way up to your knee anymore. I can't stand wearing sneakers or sandals without socks, my feet start sweating instantly and feels horrible.

Black socks at work, white all other times.

I have been wearing light coloured socks most of my life. I hate socks with patterns, or the same colour as my pants /shoes.I have to wear white socks at night, because I wear a white Elvis suit, and white boots. Anything else would look stupid
The reason I asked here, is because Ellie doesn't like white socks, and keeps on at me to wear dark ones. I told her that I believe the greater majority of males wear white/light coloured socks..and she said prove it...you did the job!! Thanks!! Now I can wear my white socks with confidence !!
Seriously, I know people have to wear 'sober' socks for business..but they cut loose in their free time! White socks..mmmmmm..white socks!!! Anybody care to define the popularity of white socks? Why do YOU choose them?
