Sure sounds like a stroke if he's lost short term memories and retained older ones. Best wishes sent your way for all of you, this is a horrible thing to go through.

Still Thinkin of Yall and wishing you the best.

If you ain't likin the doctors find someone you will like and can comunicate with. Ain't much worst than aa kaa kaa and I do da with no answers. If a dr. can't figure out the technical problem and put it into laymans terms they need more schooling!!

I forgot to address that. Maybe not the doctors but the health care.
Sounds like a legitimate complaint which will help other patients at that hospital.
COMPLAIN ! Complain to all who will listen. The AMA, the news stations, the hospital's insurance company.

Thanks all. He's still about the same, but does show some sign of improvement. They were able to get him up today to give him a shower, but are also now giving him blood, which he lost a LOT of last Tuesday and Wed. He is alert, but still disoreinted and sleeps a lot.
He has also been moved to another room & department of the hospital, where the staff seem to be more attentive, and caring according to my sister. I'll be a lot more assured once he is released from where he is and can see his own physician of many years.

Meanwhile, we bagan packing our belongings here today in anticipation of our move down to E Texas. We will have to see how the rehab process goes, but I'm fairly sure I'll be moving down there as soon as he is released to go home. My workplace refused the official notice I gave them, and countered with a years leave of absence, which is good I guess. Basically, it means they will hold my job open for up to a year. A nice gesture, and tho it has been a hard job to stay on top of, they have always treated me very well. A good bunch of folks.

Glad to hear he is at least up and around. It will take a while for him to get his coordination back. I’m still working on mine and it’s been over a year since mine.
The people will try to get him to do more than you think he should. That’s their job, and its better that he does as much as he can himself. The more he pushes himself the quicker his recovery will be. The sleeping is good for him; it’s the bodies way of healing itself. At least that's what they told me. After my stroke I think I was sleeping like 20 hours a day at first. Even now I have to take a 2 or 3-hour nap every afternoon.
Don’t let it get you down. Recovery from a stroke is at least a year, for a mild stroke. I had mine Dec. 6th, 04 and I’m still having trouble. But I don’t think they will ever let me back to work, at least not back to the kind of work I was doing before the stroke.
Again don’t let the slow progress get you down. He will get better and learn to take care of himself again. It will take time, don’t expect anything overnight. A stroke is hard on a mans body but you can recover and lead a reasonable life again but it is unusual to have it happen quickly.
If you need any first hand help on the recovery or want to know why something is happening and the doctors aren’t telling you anything. Give me a holler I’ll be glad to give you any of my experiences. I’ve never seen so many doctors or therapists in my whole life as I have in the last year.

Good luck, Hope it doesn’t look too dark. Just remember he will get better.

We can rebuild him we have the technology !
