Culvers has the best bacon cheeseburger I have ever had.
You don't know what you've been missing until you have a 'butterburger'
They seem to be a minnesota/wisconsin thing though... (go figure)
OMG that looks soo good... and there’s one here in Lansing... I must leave on my quest to find it... It’ll be as glorious a day as when I found the skyline chili shop...mmmm spaghetti and chili and cheese and onions.

For me, it's a toss up between Steak and Shake, and Fuddrucker's. Fudd's is about a 30 minute drive from here...the closest Steak and Shake is about 2.5 hours away. Needless to say, I don't make it to either very often, so I savor it when I DO get there.

all time best was the pier66 grill in fort lauderdale [A1A at the intercoastal bridge in the marina]
checkers is all most good of the fast food places
but the old royal castle was the best of them
I never cared for Royal Castle myself. There is still one on NW 79th st .just east of the flea market if you're interested. Best fast food burger is Hardees, if you can find one. Stake N Shake does not consider itself fast food as everything is cooked to order. Good burgers N shakes, but tiny little fries. Bennigans has a pretty good legless cow sandwich in my opinion.
If you haven't had one, you don't know what your missing.
I'll second that!
Even though I'll never live there again, I still really miss California sometimes...

They don't make them anymore, but the original Jalapeno Death Burger from Whataburger is pretty high on my list. Top of the list was a burger made at Bob's Chili Bus which sat at various deserted/remote locations on Hiway 59 between Freer and Laredo, depending how hard the health department was looking for him. This was back in the late 70s. Hardee's is good tho I haven't seen a Hardees in yrs now. The one single monkey burger I had in Thailand ranks at the bottom of the list. The Beefalo Burger I had in Reno Oklahoma was pretty good too.

Without a doubt the best burger I've ever had is at a little old fashioned drive in by the name of "Don's Drive In" in Oakley, KS. It's about 125 miles from me and I have been known to arrange my schedule if I'm withing 50 miles of Oakley to get there at some meal time just to get a Burger from Don's.

John, Now why does that surprise me that you'd go 50 miles out of your way for a great burger. Actually, for good food, that's not far. A few years ago, well more than a few, I used to fly to Fort Worth just to get a steak at Cattlemans. Man it was good. Now, the best burgers come off of my grill and no, I'm not sharing the recipe.
Editted, forgot the smiley.

I knew you were a steak guy and you really need to get through here and try a steak from Meridy's. Seriously. It's a moral imperative. One of the things all good meat lovers must do before they die.

Strange that some of the best food seems to be from smaller places, not as well known. There are many steak houses here in Angelo, but everyone will tell you the best is 20 miles out of town at a little place called Lowake steak house. Same for bbq. We drive up towards Winters to a place simply known as The Shed. The Shed made Texas Monthly's top 10 in BBQ a few yrs back, and had a LOT of competition. Mom & Pop operation.
Another local legend is Michilik Sausage. This old guy has been making link smoked sausage for decades in a small plain building in a bad part of town, but it's hands down the best I've ever eaten. He makes only a set amount each week and sells it Sat morning. Better get there early, because it's all sold out by 10 am.
There are some really nasty sausages being touted as being good nowdays. If the inside has the consistency of a hot dog, it's not sausage to me. Good link sausage-to me anyway-should be coarse inside, with just the right mixture of beef and pork. Maybe some venison, but Never chicken!!!
My mom lives in Wyandotte... I will have to check them out the next time I visit... What street are they on?
They are over near Yack Arena at the Corner of Maple and 2nd. They are also a brew pub. If you come into the area, shoot me a PM. We could meet for a beer, a burger and talk Fieros.

Gonna try and make a trip back there this summer, separate from the Osage Beach trip, for some reason, Dave thinks that if I haul the Pantero to Osage Beach, I should haul it back in a timely manner. What's a week or two away from work, I mean honestly, I sure they wouldn't miss him. John, if I make it back there, I'll give you a shout and we'll do that steak.
Editted for spelling as usual, darn fingers just won't do what they used to.

Bomber Burger 4860 S. Clifton Wichita, KS 316-522-6291
Been around since the 50's I think. Been in my family since 1986....it's a dive because it sits on a flood plain and the land owner refuses to update the flood area or building. All patties are hand made and the grill sits right behind the bar. It still beat Spangles who claimed to have the best burger in Wichita. So my brother bought a huge banner and put it outside that reads "Spangles can kiss our ass".

So far, it's Italian Joe's in San Francisco at Taylor and Market Street...just don't bring your ride there. I park my non-Fiero cars across the street with attendent---with my eyes on him. Or when the S.F. Auto Show is in town I'll walk 8 blocks to burn-off the calories.
John's burger in Bakersfield, CA too has some really good burgers. In & Out is alright too.
There's a little place in Lynchburg Va. that has been around since the 1930's called the Texas Tavern (now known as the Texas Inn) that has their own claim to fame. They call it a "Western", which is a thin burger patty cooked into a scrambled egg, with cheese, a dab of hotdog chili and their own special recipe mustard based slaw relish. With a side of their house chili, and an icy cold Dr. Pepper from the cooler, you have a damn fine meal for 5 bucks. My dad and I each brought back a buttload of chili and relish. The relish is so good, I can't get my g/f to stop eating itout of the container with a spoon like ice cream!
