Jim, I think you have done it! I was trying to figure out how to put the 69 stripe like Dale and I had.. Going with the later eyebrows works perfectly!
Dale.. I gotta figure out where to draw the line I guess.. I always like the Grand Prix... This car is not ugly by any means.. it just doesn't say 'muscle' to me like the GTO name makes me think. It's a little too econo-box in my eyes.. Maybe when it comes out, I'll see something different that I am not seeing in pictures... The 99 prototype just looked like muscle to me...

I was just reading my Pontiac mag. about the GTO and did a search for other discussions on the car. I must say I'm disappointed. It's not much more than a 2 door Grand Prix. I guess I was expecting more for the GTO name.
I agree with songman it doesn't say muscle to me either. The lines are all wrong. It looks like it has a fat ass, dragging the ground even. I think that is were the work is needed in changing that area of the car.
A 14+ sec 1/4 mile doesn't impress me either. They compared it to a cobra, which doesn't have the best name lately either IMO.

Oh it is much more than a 2 door Grand Prix when it is in Holden form. Well it has no relationship to the Grand Prix for starters. Pontiac have screwed it up. The 427 Monaro version here is now 2 times winner of the Bathurst 24 hour race destroying Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches in its wake. Pontiac made it too soft. The Monaro is much more aggresive to look at and has much better performance. Particularly the HSV GTO and HSV GTS models.

The GTO was the first ever muscle car. It opened the door for an entire era of factory hot rods... not to mention an entire way of life for a lot of people. I don't believe that this car will come close to having that effect.
General Motors has a way of bringing back marques on cars that don't relate to the earlier version... Nova/LeMans comes to mind.

There was a time when the Monte Carlo was a bada$$! The 70-71 big block Monte Carlo SS's were pretty tough... I agree that they were not really a muscle car, but not bad for a lead sled...
I love my 87 Aerocoupe but I don't consider it a muscle car either. Muscle cars ran from 64 to 73 in my opinion. There have been a few pretenders since then but nothing fits the bill...

True Naskie, but GM didn't even bother with a "big" engine this go around, thats what sucks about it, besides it's appearance.
Its a freaking LS1, GM doesn't have a bigger motor for passenger vehicles. (Read: Its a 'vette motor. Biggest GM cars get)

CAFE standards. Thank your lawmakers/NHTSA.
At least the Impala SS and Monte SS have a 3800SC now. Nice bump in the power.

Do they get the Series III, or II? I knew they told they were going to the 3800sc back in Pre-Series III Days, but what about now?

Your right Naskie, it's a LS1 with 259 HP to the wheels. Not muscle car material in my opinion. I guess I just miss the big blocks of old.
Then you have the sleeper cars like the original Tempest GTO, Novas, Cudas, Road Runners, etc. with the big blocks, or the Fiero with a 400 HP SBC under the deck lid

I Love GM's thinking on the looks of the new GTO. They said it didn't need scoops because the Vette didn't have them either because it didn't hurt the performance. Hell it doesn't perform.
I was just thinking, the Fiero ran what, mid to high 15 second ranges with 140 HP and the new GTO runs 14's with 350 HP. GTO is the new muscle car? Think about it.
now that's starting to look like a judge. "ram air hood scoops" check "stripes" check "rear spoiler" check, if it's got a badge on the glove box door then it's a judge. now you got me looking for room in the garage for another one, father and son.

I was checking out an original '69 GTO Judge and the new GTO today.
I'd say if I bought a new GTO, which I'm considering. I'd drive it home, take a few pictures, and then start prepping it for Carousel Red Orange paint!
Just wanted to thank the Aussies for the new GTO. You guys really make nice cars. Motor Trend magazine really loved the new Potiac GTO. Now lets hope they make the Solstice or whatever they call it.

earl> the green gto is an original 70 gto judge i own but the orange gto is ausfiero's artist rendition. now i am very loyal to the gto's but i'm not too impressed with the new one so far. it is aimed at the high end touring market and i think what ausfiero did visually, judge or not is what the new gto should have been.

I agree with you totally, visually Jim hit it perfectly with the new body lines.
My read on the New GTO in Pontiac Enthusist is that Pontiac detuned the GTO for the test against the Mustang. They must have, with a 350 HP engine and the numbers being produced were not that impressive at all.
