My condolences to the families.

It's sad to see, in car vs. tree, tree will always win, no matter how skinny the tree - it seems.

Thanks for saying that, considering the final outcome and everything, I feel horrible for the comments made, but I refuse to take them down, as I do deserve what I get for what I jumped to there.

I'm a little relieved that the son didn't make it, though tragic, I'm just glad he didn't have to deal with the obvious mental trauma of surviving that.
Tragic either way.

No...just no.

RIP those two...I am interested to hear how this happened though...and it's interesting the father died first when the impact seems to be on the passenger side. Also the speed...they must have been bombing down that road. Hopefully there will be more info.

I seen it on the Hamilton news channel and the car looked like it was deep red metallic.

I should probably kill myself considering how mentally ****ed up I am then. That was another dumb comment man, sorry to say.

Mystic, I think your imagination is a little bit over-active.

Having said all that...

What about the physical trauma?
Truthfully, if I were going to be all broken up, I think that I would rather not survive.
I'm deathly afraid of pain. Much more so than death.

Sorry. Didn't really mean to go there. But I've thought about this for years.

I have to agree with your post on several counts. If I had to watch my father die next to me in an accident, I am not sure if I could survive it. Also I double agree with the pain over death thing. I am much more terrified about pain and getting hurt than actually dying.

While I agree with both of you about choosing death over a life of pain and/or disability... Saying that one is relieved of that, its not the right choice of words IMO. No one can know if the gentleman wanted to live or die.

I agree as well.

Obviously we can all agree that life is a much preferable option over death, however, in light of the situation, you have to wonder if death would be preferable to the potential physical and mental trauma he would obviously suffer, especially if he regained consciousness at any point to witness his dead/dying father next to him, doubly so if he actually understood what was going on.

Either way, the situation is bad, or worse. So regardless.

I hope nobody took my statement the wrong way, I'm just saying that, while the son's death is tragic, I feel a small relief for the fact that he now does not need to suffer through what would have been a very torturous experience, both physically, and mentally.

I wonder if this car had bad rust problems? This could account for it splitting in two. If the frame was really rotten it would not perform correctly in a accident. Its just rare to see this kind of damage on a Fiero. They tend to take accidents very well.

Either way, my thoughts are with those affected.

I live down the street from where this happened and I talked to the guy a few times about his car. It was in great condition, the speed limit on the street is 40 km/h and I never saw him go much above that. Can't seem to figure out how this could have happened.

If you look at the crash pictures, it appears that the rear came around, and the car skidded sideways into the tree. The tree impacted the car just in front of the passenger side A-pillar, splitting the seam between the A Pillar/footwell and the front frame rail. Fiero frames were built in subsections, and as you can see in the pic slideshow, 4th picture, you can clearly see the steel member that attaches the two lower frame rails together at the seam just in front of the footwells. The tree came to rest in the center console area.

I seen the news report on Hamilton's CHCH Television station very early in that morning, It looked like the car was deep red metallic, though the CTV pics are gold, anyway, the car looked like it hit that tree straight on, the car was wrapped around the tree nose first, I think possibly the car was cut in half by the EMS to extricate the occupants.

Thanks for taking the time to post, 777.
Please give our condolences to the family if you know them well enough to feel comfortable doing so.

Whether you're a Fiero owner or not, welcome to our forum.
