Just thought I would share with eveyone that my 4.9 swap is near completion. I fired the motor this am and everything seems to be working great. I want to thank everyone that has helped and shared information to get me to this point.
Sounds good....went off better than the 3800 swap I started up last week...all I got was engine turning over with no spark...but found bad CPS and all was well...

I suspect a bonzai effort this week and a running car by this weekend.....
Well I over did it this weekend - I am in rough shape today! I hurt in places I did not know existed! I think I'll focus on the coolant system this afternoon. Still thinking about the exhaust. The Fuel gauge and OP guage pegging out have me a little concerned. Nothing we can;t figure out - just don;t want to!

At least when you have an issue, you know where to look for it and how to fix it. I have an issue with the Fuel gauge and the OP guage and I'm devestated......lol. I hope my fellow - local 4.9 buddies can help me figure it out.
P.S. my next swap will be a 3800 SC! I'll be bugging the crap out of you next!

Sounds great, Pat. Did your son help you with the swap?
Yes Andy. He did a lot of the work so far. I am very proud of his commitment to this project - he is funding the whole thing. I love sitting in the chair, pointing and grunting instructions.....lol!
Here he is doing the trunk work!

Nice! That sounds great. You'll be taking it out for a spin in no time. Congrats!
As soon as you have a cooling system you can do the idle learn procedure and dial it in a bit. Exciting day. Excellant work!
EDIT: For when your ready...

Start the car and warm to full operating temp.
Next you get 2 jumper wires and remove the connector for the ISC. One jumper wire connects to +12v the other to ground. With the other ends of these jumpers touch the blue wires in the ISC connector (ISC side not PCM side). This should retract the ISC fully (if not reverse polarity). With the ISC fully retracted you can now adjust the minimum idle screw. If the throttle lever is resting on the ISC screw the turn screw in so its not. Set the min idle screw low, as low as you can with the engine still running. Even if its running badly its OK. Hopefully you can get to 400-500rpm. Now you can shut the car off but leave the key on.
Once the min idle is set you can adjust the TPS. With the ISC still retracted loosen the screws and set the TPS to .55v. A scanner or multimeter will tell you the voltage.
The next step is to set the ISC screw to the correct range. While still reading the TPS voltage extend the ISC fully. With it fully extended check the TPS voltage. You are looking to be in the range of 1.15-1.2V (the lower the better). If your out of that range turn the ISC screw until you are. Let the throttle slam shut a couple times to make sure the settings stay.
Now reconnect your ISC and turn off the key. Wait 20-30 seconds for the PCM to perform a "TPS learn" (you'll hear the ISC moving while this is going on). Cycle the key on for 5 seconds then back off again to do a second TPS learn. Once done disconnect the negative battery cable for 20-30 seconds. Once reconnected its time for the "idle learn". Start the car and let idle in park, drive, and with the AC on (if equipped) for about 2 minutes in each. Go for a drive and enjoy. The car should no longer push and should stop much faster.
Hope this is some help.

Thanks for all your help - I'll definitely need that info this weekend. Just trying to figure out a couple coolant hoses and that wil be done and ready for coolant.

Sounds even better. Idling at a much nicer speed now. I'm excited for you.
I'm amazed at how smooth yours sounds. At the moment mine doesn't sound that great. With any luck the new injectors will have mine working better in a few days.

I believe that your new injectors will make a huge difference.
I just have to figure out what mufflers to use now. I want a nice V8 sound but not too loud. I am thinking a 40 series flowmaster on each side. I also was looking at some round sportsman race mufflers at Summit - these may be too loud. My son wants glass packs???? Not sure if I like that or not. We'll figure it out.

My first exhaust used a modified V6 fiero muffler and stock fiero routing. Had to modify it so the inlet pipe was enlarged to 2.5". It worked pretty well. It had a good sound and was daily driver quiet. This was when I was commuting with the car.
For the more recent system I'm using dual 12" glass packs with a modified caddy crossover (doesn't need to be modified with caddy auto). It uses the deville manifolds, a collector, four 90 degree bends, and the tips. Short and sweet! Its a bit louder and meaner sounding. Still within the legal limits for sound but not by alot. Since the car only gets driven on the weekends now, its more then acceptable.
I have videos/pics of both systems if you want to compare.

Vids and pics would be great! I have room for up to 18" glass packs on each side of the frame rail due to the length of the XTC rear end. My plan is to come out of the stock Deville outlet with a modified 45 to a "Y" pipe made from 2 - 90's mated together. From the Y it will go straight about 12 to 16" to another 90 then into the muffler and out the back in the stock XTC cutouts. I guess if it's too loud, I can go back and add a short race muffler at the Y to the 90. It's all an experiment.
