Just crashed my fiero about an hour ago head on dead center into a telephone pole. I was on my way to work when a lady in front of me decided to stop very very abruptly when it changed to yellow. When i tried to stop i knew i wouldnt make it and the best option i found was to try and go across the median between a small pole and a telephone pole. Due to 4in of snow of the median i slid right into the pole at probably 35ish mph. The cops that came werent the nicest ive ever met and began hinting at a young kid with a nice looking car to be part of the reason i crashed. They also tried to claim i wasnt wearing a seatbelt because there was no marks on my chest and the fabric of the selt belt felt "like it had no been used in a while." Some of the biggest bs i had ever herd but best of all the lady drove off. I only smacked my head on the wheel which kilss but the car is pretty messed up and im not sure if i can/want to fix it any more. pics to come soon.

My jaw and teeth are killing pretty bad, i thought i knocked them out at first from the steering wheel. The car at the very minimun needs a hood, fenders, bumper, radiator and everything that would support all that. Once i get a look at the rails *if* its fixable i gotta decide if its worth it anymore. I love the car but this is so depressing.

I'm curious how you hit the steering wheel. WERE you wearing your seatbelt? If so, how far back were you from your steering wheel? Was your seatbelt operating correctly if you were wearing it? Very odd.

Im around six feet tall but its mostly wasit up and i drive with my steering wheel parallel with my chest so its within pretty good range. I had my arms braced for impact and my chest didnt move that much but it was just enough for my chin to hit the top of the wheel. The seatbelt had the stuck/tightness to it getting out too.

Was it a statie? Damn Mass staties are the biggest @$$holes I've ever met. I had one stop me from behind saying I didn't have a front plate (illegal in Mass). HE WAS BEHIND ME! And I said "it was there this morning". He looked... "oh there it is. please step out of the vehicle." He then frisked me and searched my car. He took my ka-bar that was a gift from my brother who was a Marine at the time then arrested me for posession of a dangerous weapon and had my car towed.
Sorry for the hijack... basically what I'm trying to say is f*** Mass State Troopers!

it wasnt a statie but one of the cops that did show up was know particually for being an a**. I tried to remain calm and polite to them but some things were just rediculas. Like opening my jacket to see if i had a red mark from the belt which i actually di and telling me to get off the phone when i had asked the first officer that arrived if i could make neccessary calls. mass cops in general are tough to deal with

I would say you should just go to your insurance but I know on something like that, it'd surely be totalled by their standards. Insrance on a car like a Fiero is just a formality.

Insurance or not since i started with a $300 car i had no corverage as far as the fiero being fixed it i crashed it which means no $. I was going to upgrade it and have it appraised once spring came. My options are to part it, fix it or find a new shell. I want to fix it or find a new shell over anything.

I hope you are okay and have no lasting effects from this accident. Sorry about your car, I would guarantee with that far back of a push, those upper rails are bent inward now. It most likely could be fixed, but it would be cheaper to find a chassis and transplant.

Thats what i was afraid of. Being that the front seal is bent that would be well past where the rails start. Might have found an 86 gt to restart with but it still sucks.

You should have taken the 5th, He had no right to search your car.... You should have called a lawyer.
Always keep your ****ing mouth shut, always take the 5th and have a lawyer on speed dial, talking will only end you up in jail.

I called a lawyer right afterwards because the a** cop seemed like he was going to write me up for the seatbelt but my lawyer said that they can't prove that at all and the fact that they searched me ( im a minor) without really having my consent at all was an issue. If they were to fight me on it id probably win.

I didnt really have an option he walked over to me and pulled the zipper down on my jacket to start looking for red marks. I was shocked to say the least.
Damn man, hope you feel better. That lady driving off is wrong, motorists are supposed to stop and render aid or help someone if they're involved in an accident. Good luck with sorting out the Fiero mess.

Totally not trying to be some douchebag thats trying to tell you right from wrong - this is strictly so you know for future reference:
She would not have been at fault at all in this. Now, she's a total jerk for driving off and not staying with you until help arrived, but she had no reason to 'get out of there' either. It's the driver behind's responsibility to maintain proper distance based on enviroment (weather, day/night, etc) and car capabilities (judgement call).
Very glad you're ok!!!! My personal opinion is that car is toast, at least frame-wise. I you have a buddy or someone with a frame straightener that can work a deal on getting it right again it may be ok, but I'd bet that thing would be squirelly the rest of it's life.
Peace man - keep us posted on what you do!

Ouch. Sorry, but that frame looks like it's toast. Looks like almost all the other parts are reusable, though. That front bumper looks like it might be salvageable?
If you actually drove it home, you might try finding a frame straightening shop.
Once again shows how safe these things are in a crash, though. Most cars that hit a tree/pole at that speed are in MUCH worse shape, as are the passengers.

I no I am mostly at fault for not being far enough away at all times and should always have the time to stop in the event that this happens however, i believe that in the event that you are traveling at speed and decide to make a short stop at a yellow light your supposed to make sure you can do so safely. I take full responsibility for not being cautious enough but under the circumstances there was some fault to the other driver.
The car wasnt driveable since the radiator is crushed completely thats just where i usually park it and i had taken the before picture a few months ago. The car is an 85 but i have in coverted to a gt and had recent paint and body work done besides the motor i swapped in .
Good thing is as of right now im planning on getting a cheap doner car and my girlfriends dad thinks he may know someone thats had one sitting in a garage for a while . Im optimistic that i can take pretty much everything from the doors back to keep as spares or to use as doner parts to recreate the same car.
My face is now swelled pretty good though around the jaw and im feeling pretty achey especially in a shoulder i had torn ligaments in before but nothing that wont heal.

Anything is fixable but what it comes down to is; is it worth it? That was a beautiful car to be sure. I hate that this happened. I can relate. My 16 year old son totaled my Fiero two years ago. It upset me so much I got out of the hobby and bought a motorcycle (see avatar). I was able to drive the wreck home and I kept it in my garage - just in case. Well, I got bit by the Fiero bug again and I bought another car. I'm about to put the 2.8 from the wrecked car into my new one. I was able to use a bunch of other parts too. Because I had a very good selection of spare parts, I didn't have to find the nicest car to buy and fork out money for.
I recommend buying a "beater" Fiero that is driveable. Work on it at night and on the weekends. Swap a part here and there. It won't be long before you know every nut and bolt on it and you won't need to give your money to a frame shop or a mechanic.
