If you're talking about making the entire rear section of the car from the passenger tub into a tube frame it's frequently done with kit cars whereas they can just eliminate all the unnecessary weight in the rear and include the stretch needed instead of simply stretching the stock frame. I believe that most people that do the tube rear sections use Corvette suspension.

This one is my favorite:

Build thread is here:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/048610.html

The Bubbajoes newest project also reworked the rear:

Here is the thread - page 33 +/- a couple pages either way to see how it progressed:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/F.../HTML/000007-33.html

Russ Fiero (the guy doing the transverse BMW V12) is also working on backhalfing his BBC fiero and these are the pics from last time I saw it:

He is also working on an upper A-arm setup to take the place of the strut:

I am planning to stop buy Russ's over thanksgiving (if he is home) and will try to get some new picks if any progress has been made (he has several going on).

There is a fiero operation of this order going on over at ARI's kitcar forum.... The owner is wanting to install a caddy 4.9 motor longitudinally, with only a 3 inch stretch for a 355 replica..... He even cut out the firewall, .....

Last night I sat my stretched F40 panels on it, the rockers were about an inch off the ground in the middle and a 1/4 inch in the rear. The front hood was an inch off the ground in the front and sitting on the tires. I'm looking at raising it about 4 inches and putting air-over shocks on all four corners so I can raise the car to enter parking lots and lower out on the open road.

Dave Held is still at it down in Cocoa beach, Fl.
I know he built these for long wheel base kitcars but I don't know if they would fit a stock Fiero or not.
I sent him an email to find out.
here is the link to his site.

thank you very much they look pretty bad ass. but seems like it would be pretty pricey, do you think that it would eliminate a lot of weight from the equation? and dose anybody make new body panels to accommodate the longer body? how about the a carbon fiber deck lid with a scoop already

I emailed Held last night and he said that he can make them for a stock Fiero as well as the longer kits.
to price them he would need to know dimensions, engine and trans you want to use and what style cradle you want he makes several differant types.

Simply a work of art. It's getting a Ferrari body though IIRC. It'll be really nice, but will not in any way be a Fiero when it is done .

No association to the post owner but I was surfing jaxed.mash (search engine-Ebay/Craigslist/Kiiji) and came across a whole fiero parts car with tubular front suspension and coilovers over in Medford, NJ. Possibly a good start to what your looking for.

Fro the adapter, these guys have been making adapters for decades
http://www.kennedyeng.com/vw_por.htm

edit, NAERC was doing it in their Mercialago replicas using a Porsche or Audi transaxle before they went out of buiseness.

You might try searching R Runner's threads, his IMSA styled racecar is built on a full tube frame, with a longitudinal SBC V8.
Truly a work of art.

Here is my tubular cradle for an 88. It is setup for a stock wheelbase, stock track width and transverse mount (for my SBC/F40 swap)...

Here is the tubular cradle for the transverse BMW V12 (Russ Fiero)...
