NOTHING!! God how I dislike things hanging in front of your line of vision!! Aren't there enough distractions around without adding them pointlessly????
Ooops!! Came across a bit 'angry ' there Sorry. But I do think they are pointless, ugly and a dangerous distraction ('They' being anything hanging there ) Nick
I had heard about it being illegal in some states to have something on your mirror, however I honestly did not think it was enforced. Well as promised here is my cluttered view. Maybe I am just use to all the stuff being there so it does not bother me.
Between the stuff on my mirror, my Radar Detector and my GPS/Cell phone mount, I still don't really have a problem seeing. If the law is because hanging items obstruct your vision, wouldn't that also make a GPS stuck to your windshield illegal as well? Having my TomTom it has made my drives into strange areas a non issue.
There are people with naturally poor vision, and pay a higher insurance premium, who can see better than somebody with 20/20 vision sitting driving that car. Please..do yourself, and other road users especially (they don't have a choice in the matter ), and take the whole lot off!!!

Well maybe I am on of the odd people, that actually does really LOOK when I am driving. I have been driving for over 16 years and the only at fault accident I have ever had, was sliding on ice, and the only damage was to a poor tree and a Ford Tempo that I was driving (without anything on the mirror) at the time.
As for someone else driving my 88GT. In the 3 years I have owned that car, I think I have let 1 person drive the car, once, and that was a 5 min trip to the auto parts store. Otherwise I am the only driver of that car.
Whats really dumb, you Yankee's are allowed tint on your windows, especially the California and Nevada guys. Up here the government thinks that Tint is a MAJOR distraction and does not allow ANY, NONE, ZIP tint. Cops will harass you for even OEM tint. They can't ticket you, but they will pull you over just to check.
But back to topic.
People putting Fuzzy Dice on the mirror has been around for so long I don't even know when it started, 50 years maybe. They do look for obtrusive in the photos, than they do when you are driving. Maybe I have just learned to look around them when I am driving, however I do know, they are staying right where they are.

Looks suspiciously like a Dodge Neon mirror but looks really good...
Thanks. The mirrors are from the 1999 Misubishi Eclipse Spyder, but are perhaps offered in other makes of cars. I thought it was time to retire the old stock interior lamps with something modern thus removing the old push button consol. Besids, IMO I felt that the mirrors needed to be mounted higher and out of my range of view for my choptops.

Coupla comments, Cap'n So have accidents and death been around for the same time..doesn't make them any more 'right'; In the time it takes for your eyes to refocus from the close-up 'dangly things', to something a lot further away, and the time it takes to actually look past them in order to focus on something else far away, you could have travelled 50ft., and hit something before you know it is there!! ! They are a flaming nuisance to ME, when I am driving, because they distract MY attention too..probably because I hate them so much I hope you never have cause to regret making life difficult for yourself, and others Nick

Its legal to be there while parked...illegal driving. Same goes for handicapped parking pass. Says right on them to remove before driving.
i have my college parking pass hanging too (unless driving on the highway with the windows down because i'm paranoid it'll fly out the window) i read that it says to remove it while in motion but it's never enforced

Well, it’s definitely the weirdest looking rear view mirror I’ve ever seen. Looks like something out of the Batmobile.
On a serious note though, wouldn't those spikes be a hazard for your eyes (or your passenger's eyes) if you were ever in an accident and got bounced around a bit?

The radical spiked mirrors sold in CA are tagged as, "Not for street use/show purpose only" I never looked into "why," but I'm guessing it has something to do with the sharp edges and company being sued.
If hanging things from the rear view is against the law than State Center Community College District is in BIG trouble. We all have our parking passes hanging on the rear view, they even sell the hanger things in their student store.
Most everything in Cali. is illegal. It's probably illegal to step outside while it's an uncomfortable temperature, which is always because i live in the central valley.

a small version of the thing you wear around your neck in the military, only mine is black vinyl and slightly bigger than a credit card. got one in each car i have. from the little chinese type shops for about a dollar. my insurance card is in the clear window, and stuff like change, a scan key, screws from whatever project, etc. end up in the little zipper section.
beyond that sometimes a pair of sunglasses.

My Sonoma and gray car don't have anything hanging form the mirrors. The red car has a Hawaiian lei, folded double, hanging from the mirror. I think. It's quite unobtrusive, if it's still there.
I usta hang roachclips from my mirrors, too.

In my Fiero, nothing. In the wifes Jeep Cherokee, she has a charm necklace with a bunch of carebears on it hangin there. Annoys the heck out of me whenever I drive it.... Atleast I've managed to keep her from buying those Tinkerbell floormats, seat covers, stearing wheel cover and stickers to plaster on the rear window.

Sure, it's probably illegal, but so is speeding and we all do that occasionally, too. I've got little red fuzzy dice to match my little red not fuzzy Fiero.
