so lately ive been REALLY mising my Camaro i used to have. i had so many good memories in that car and it feels like a part of my family i lost because it meant so much to me and i know ill never have it back and its actualy making me feel really sad.
well before i moved to pittsburgh it was having a lot of problems and it needed new tires and an alignment and all sorts of engine issues. i was extreemly low on money and there was no way it would have made it to pittsburgh so i sold it. :: sniff sniff :: i would give anything to have her back! the only good thing i know is that the person that bought her had big goals for the car and the money to back them up. but i would even take her back in the exact same condition

I had a '71 Chevelle. I put 260K miles on it after I got her at 150K. I rebuilt everything on her. I was moving to Seattle and knew that the rusty rear window would probably completely rot out before I could get to it so I gave the keys to a buddy of mine. He sold her for me. (I didn't have the heart)
I got a call from my buddy about a year later... He found it in a wrecking yard... It was one of the saddest days of my life.

I had a '72 Trans Am when I was in College. I sold it to help pay bills. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time. I got a fair (at the time) price of $4500 for it in decent shape and mechanically solid, with the original engine.
Today that car in the same shape would sell for about $40,000 - $50,000. Doubtful I'll ever be able to afford to buy one again given how fast they're likely to go up in value.
But now I've got my Fiero, and while it's not anywhere near as powerful or collectible - it still puts a big smile on my face when I drive it. Isn't that the point?
Now - enough memory lane - how's the Fiero coming along?

I'll be there. Looks like I'm leaving on Wed. or Thurs. at this point. (was shooting for Tues. to spend a couple days in Orlando, but it's taken too long for me to get my poop in a group)
I'll be the big bald dude who looks like an evil Charlie Brown. (it's the beard)

k well i donno if anyone from the late night crew is on right now but i got some time to spare so heres how my night went:
started out with cleaned de-luggage racked deck lid roughed up the edges of the holes with a drill (o, did i mention this is the ghetto/poor person way to go about it hehehe) sanded around the holes shoved some thick plastic wrap in the holes that didnt go all the way thru for the bondo to rest on something this is how it looked

I got a question for you. Your paint looks good from the pics. What does the reflection of light look like? Are the reflections smooth? kinda hazy? I am not expecting much from rustoleum, but am curious. Can you take a pic with reflection on the hood maybe?
They should be on the road to Daytona right now. (not sure when they're due to arrive) But I'm sure there will be plenty of pics taken under the perfect Florida sun.

alright! time to get back in the game! man, daytona was soooo nice now its time to start doing nice things for my car again so whatever show is next, my baby will be looking even more fly.
so about the look of the paint... it really depends on what you use to paint and how well its done. my hood i used a roller and spent lots of time and details on it and it looks great! theres no dripping or anything, just flat smooth paint. its not very glossy but thats what buffing and such is for afterwards. now as for some other parts i did late at night while i was cold, tired, and cranky... they dont look so hot. so since daytona is all done with i can take my time on it cause im not in a rush.
ok so i need some advice for my next project. when i was talking to Kolja(Yellowstone) he was showing me his little book he made of the progress of his car. i saw in there that he took his center console off to repair it. in the picture he had those high strength butterfly paper clips around the edge to hold the glue down while it dried. i got a good look of the pic and it seems easy but i also want to know how other people did theirs. im gonna do the part thats around the shifter and around where the radio and heat controls is. i want it to not look like theres nothing holding it together!

hmmm thats a pretty good idea. those little paper clips are pretty strong, thebigger ones. other people on here have used really high strength glue, such as Gorilla Glue, and then clamped the edges down with big, bulky clamps all over to hold while glue dried. The paper clip idea sounds quick and easy esp. if you dont have 3 or 4 clamps around. Like one of these guys?

so today was nice outside and i gto the chance to vacum and polish the inside of my fiero she looks soooo nice. the car as gained A LOT of respect in my book concidering the very few amount of problems it had going to florida and back and driving it the whole time! now, to get the automatic trans and she'll really feel like mine aaand atleast i dont have to feel too bad about giving up the manual trans from not knowing how to use it cause i did a lot of driving on the way!
but anyways, im gonna go eat and see if i can start working on the center console. im gonna clean it and paint it and all that. o and ill post pics along the way!

Thats exactly how I did mine, (got the idea from Kolja last November). I bought 2-3 different sizes of those things...they're actually called "binder clips" Office Depot has whole bags of them for a couple dollars. It worked fantastically easy. I used Gorilla Glue applied sparingly with a small brush. The "GG" expands something FIERCE so you want to go easy with it unless you want to be trimming VERY hard foamy stuff off of everything.

i just did mine last week. i used blue masking tape one the radio surround though. it has a little shape to around it and holding it with the clips didn't work. the tape however, worked like a charm! it came out perfect.

well, i havnt gotten to it yet.. i had to shower first and now im hungry and while i was in the shower i was washing my hair and it hurt really bad! i seem to be having bad luck in the head area... well first off at daytona i got really burnt on my scalp. then when i was going into the the trunk the deck lid fell on my head! then while i was cleaning the inside of my car i hit my head off the stearing wheel!! all in the same spot!
so, i think im gonna go with the binder clip way, i still have to get some but i can go clean everything and paint the metal parts that are all faded and such. and i had this cool idea to paint my initials on that little peice below the shifter ill post pics when i get to it!

*IF* you and jerry are looking for a complete auto car to get the swap parts from, currently i have a 87 coupe 4cyl auto complete car thats a junker, i was told it had a blown headgasket, but the auto parts seem complete and are all there, pedal assembly, shifter, cable, all of it.
if your interested and want to take a trip to WV, it can be removed from the car sometime over the warm days, we are having a WV fiero gathering in june or july maybe, not sure, fieroangel has it posted.
anyway let me know if you need auto parts.

I need to know about the ashtray covers too but, everything I heard on here is that they are EASY to break! One guy mentioned he never tried removing them at junkyards but, always got the console piece to avoid damaging them.
Just curious, is your fiero going to sleep with it's eyes closed soon?

I tried getting those ash tray covers off and it can be done but it is a lot like the quarter panel windows on the GT. There is about a 90% chance that it will break. I actually glued one of mine back together with super glue and it is still holding but it was a pita... If you can work with them in place you will most likely be better off than if you try to pry them out of there.

alas. my fiero is very tired but she has trained herself to sleep with her eyes open... but its pretty tough to sleep when your sleeping in the same garage as a sexy black GT under the moonlight...

i forgot to mention (cause im really tired) that i didnt get started on my project yet... hehe.. i was lazy tonight. but i guess i wont take the ashtray covers off then... i probably wanted to say something else but im going to bedddd
ok, i got another question. how do i get off those little flippy covers that go over the ash trays?
and does anyone have any extra carbon fiber sticker stuff?? i was thinking about covering my center console and thing around the gauges with it.
I have a fix for those ashtray covers, but I didn't think at the time to take photos of the procedure
If yours aren't broken, be VERY careful with them. The "ears" on the bottom side of the doors are usually very "crispy" and will snap right off with the smallest pressure.
You can frequently get them out unbroken, but old crispy ones will break the "ears" on the bottom of the doors off almost 100% of the time trying to get them back in.
The "fix" involves cutting off the little plastic pins on the "ears" and carefully drilling them out to take a 1/8 inch diameter X 1/4 inch long aluminum rivet. You need to slightly enlarge the hole for the pin in the shifter console part also. Take a pair of wire cutters and cut the shank off the rivet, leaving the body and flange intact. File off the remainder of the rivet shank nice and smooth flush with the rivet flange and then just slide them into the holes in the door "ears" and into the console support frame when you reassemble the doors. Once you put the metal ashtrays back in they keep the rivet "hinge pins" from backing out.......Oh gawd...this sounds so complicated, but it's very easy....I'll have to try to post some pics or drawings of this later......
EDIT: Forgot to mention that the ashtray doors come out and go back in from the BOTTOM of the shifter console. You flip them open and carefully work them out from the bottom....take those little curved springs off first, and DON'T LOSE THEM....those things are hard to find and they keep the doors from rattling around.

If you are going to use the gorilla paperclips (that's what I call them), get some tongue depressors too. That way, when you apply the pressure, the depressors will distribute the pressure over a larger area and not leave any depressed areas where the clips were. Just a suggestion.
