what is the rev limiter set at? i think i just hit mine at 6k!!! i thought 6 was the redline, you would think that the limiter would be set a little higher than that. or is the redline really that red hashed line at 5500?

car is an 87GT auto

I think it's around 6000-6100. At least that's what I would hit with my 86 4-speed.

'88 Fiero's with V6 don't have a rev limiter. I think its like 186000 rpms or something insane like that, you'd never even get close to that .

I don't know about the earlier years. It should be somewhere around 6500 rpms if GM was thinking clearly. In my 86 SE with V6 I've gone to 6000 and slightly beyond, I didn't hit any rev limiter. I'm not too sure about going much higher than 6100 or 6200 rpms with that old motor. We need to find someone gullible enough to run their 2.8 at 6500 rpms for a couple seconds or more...

when im out sprinting around i generaly pull it back in to 1st and push it up when i want the thing to shift. i usualy shift in the hashed area when im really going at it, but today i pushed it to 6 and hit a wall, where the thing totaly lost power, right at about the time just before i shifted. it was an intresting sensation. the celica, and every school bus i've driven all just stop reving and hold dead steady at the limiter. the fiero lost all oomph. it was odd.

The fiero V6 engine rev limiter cuts out at 6200RPMs.

A while back, I had a hypertech chip in my fiero and really to rev in that RPM range is useless.
Remember, GM did a great job on the stock PROM chip. All the kids that knew I had one in my fiero thought I was crazy to change back to the stock unit. And the only reason I had the power chip was because I bought it with the car.

IMO, for a stock set-up, it's a waste of money.

I don't know, I never hit a rev limiter, but I think I had my 86 up around 6500-6600 (according to the tach) during a couple of autocross runs

No power there then, (there should be now...muwaha) but it was better than shifting to 3rd at the time.
