I live in a reeeeeal decent, quiet part of town. I went to my local custard place for lunch before work, and after buying my food this old guy wanted to talk to me about my car. I walked him over to it and started showing him all the goodies on it (Its Haze_Performances 3.4.)
About three parking spaces down this mexican guy was sitting up against his Impala, no ides what year it was, but it was rusted to **** . I had my back to him and he called out to me "I could SMOKE your car you know."
I turn around and said "okay" and turned back around and kept talking to the old guy. The mexican dude walks over to me and taps me on the shoulder and says "i SAID i could ****ing SMOKE your car"
So I turned around and said "congradulations" and turned back around. So the guy leans over to me and says "Aint no ****ing cracker going to talk to me like that" And he flips out a little switchblade knife. So now im just standing the with this guy whos like 55, totally stunned. The old guy leans over and says "Do you have some sort of a weapon?" I said yes, a knife.
I was kind of light headed at the moment and wasnt really thinking clearly...so the old guy asks is it bigger than his, and i said yeah, and he told me to take it out.
So i took out my para knife and unfolded it and the old guy says "So are you guys gonna race or fight or what?" At which point i felt reeeeally stupid for taking out a knife, even tho i felt alot safer. The mexican guy walked back over to his car and got in and drove off and shouted "I wouldve ****ed you up"
I wasnt really afraid of getting hurt or anything, it was just ****ed up because it was completly unprovoked. I was also kinda pissed that the old guy just wanted to see a knife fight....
This bs happen to any other fiero peeps?.....because it sucked alot of ass....and im assuming he was high or something, because otherwise it just doesnt make any sense.

While I don't condone knife fighting on a family forum-bla bla bla I had a friend who was in a simialr situation right after high school. When challenged to a knife fight while sitting in his 73 challenger, he get's out-6'4" and presents the machetti which his father carried in the Korean war------needless to say the &^% punk drops his little switchblade and runs off sputtering about you're crazy man.
I guess some people are just into that whole---size matters thingy.
I'm glad no one was hurt---maybe the "old guy" saved your life--he may have known the politics in that situation?

It sounds like Jeff has the right perception from what I read...The old guy figured the kid would back off if you had a bigger knife and called the kid out with the "fight or race or what?" comment. It gave you a chance to get your mind in gear and at least get a weapon out before potentially getting cut. Glad you're okay. The world's a stupid place when people are threatened with knives by butt-heads like that because someone doesn't want to play.

Even more effective if you can produce a gun. IMHO, once someone pulls something on you, you are entirely within your rights to drop him. (Doesn't hurt that you would have had a witness.) Of course, this comment may draw the ire of other members. So be it.

Glad it stopped where it did. I usually have a small folder in my pocket. The blade is about 2 1/2 inches was his bigger than that just incase I run into him, given the same situation I am sure that I would have been in a fight as I have a bigger mouth. I have bigger knives but don’t carry them as you can get in a lot of trouble for them. If you pull on someone then you need to be ready to cut them, I know you didn’t want to and were trying to avoid a fight but sometimes there is nothing you can do. Keep an eye on your car as I am sure he will do something to it should he see it parked.

The other guy would have seen the flaw of bringing a knife to a gun fight

If you both happened to be at the same place then, chances are you'll see him again. Race him once, smoke him and hopefully he'll leave you alone after that.

I would have reported the whole incident to the police. The guy was threatening you afterall and could have been arrested for pulling a knife on you. That kind of behaviour should not be tolerated. The world doesn't need a-holes like that free on the street. Edit: If being a responsible citizen and getting scum of our streets makes me a tattle tale, so be it.

Yeah, I would have got his plate number and called the police. There's a good chance you will see him again, and next time he'll probably have a group of his Mexican peeps with him. I wouldn't be surprised if he messes with your car, if he sees it somewhere. Freaking low life piece of trash deserved a bullet in the face. I know some will flame me for saying that, that he was just a kid blowing off steam, and maybe that's true, but no one should have to put up with being accosted with a knife while minding their own business. You don't know if he's messing around or crazy enough to kill you for the fun of it.
BTW, aren't Mexican peeps the same thing as Marshmellow peeps, but made with refried beans?
I'm glad nothing happened. I'm guessing from reading your thread that, turning your back to him pissed him off? No doubt leading the guy to wanting, "see what type of guy you were made of?" Having a bigger knife demonstrated that, hehehe. However, I wouldn't have called the police due to your knife size (blade) being perhaps against the law.

Send the Mexican to Miami, he WILL be taken care of. No one carries a puny knife in their car in Miami. We have every kind of gun ever made carried in our cars including mine. And no I will not say what kind I carry and YES I am prepared to use it ONLY if necessary.

I don't want to start a flame war guys but wanted to bring something up. I study a couple of different martial arts(Xing Yi & Kali) and one of them uses weapons and teaches how to take them from other people(Kali). I just want everybody to step back and make SURE you are ready to live with the consequences of your actions. I am not telling you to not do something....just be prepared. You should only pull a weapon if you are prepared to kill the other person....because that is what it may and probably will come to. Once again-NOT telling anybody how to act-just to think it through....the other guy might be better and if you bring it well you just don't know.

Remember the phrase, "reasonable fear of death or serious bodily harm". You can be disemboweled by a four-inch blade, which is legal in most jurisdictions (length of average folding swiss army knife). If you can demonstrate or explain that you had reason to fear you were in imminent danger of death or serious bodily harm (and why you reasonably felt that way) you are entitled to use deadly force to defend yourself. That applies to police officers and private citizens alike, and also if you are acting in defense of a third person. I would say that standard applied in this case, particularly if he had begun trying to stick or cut you. HOWEVER---the use of force MUST cease when the threat no longer exists, meaning if you'd pulled a gun, and the guy had turned and run, you could not shoot him as he was fleeing. Also keep in mind, if such a situation ever arises again, that if someone with an edged weapon and hostile intent is within ten feet of you, that you are already in the danger zone. In most cases (demonstated time and again in officer survival courses) even if you have a weapon (firearm) readily accessible in a holster on your side, unless you are exceptionally quick, if he is within ten feet, the person with the blade can have it in you before you can draw and fire. If you don't believe it, try it with a partner using a rubber knife and a toy cap pistol sometime. Then change places. You'll probably be surprised. My .02...

Yeah! The main reason I'm moving out of the city. I want to go somewhere where I hear English spoken on the street......

Dont move here either! ?tu no hablo en engles? go home! Sorry if I sound racist, I lost my job due to a "hispanic" doing the same thing in the parking lot where I worked. It wasnt over a car, it was just him trying to look bad in front of his homies. I stood up to him, he got a lawyer and we both lost our jobs. I have went into the motor vehicle office and seen nothing but notices written in spanish, none in english. I threw a fit, it didnt help. Brad

You let him win and he'll make it an effort to razz you every chance he can. Smoke him once and he goes away.
Not likely. Let him win and he'll boast about it. If he loses, he'll get ticked off and you'll find crap happening to your car over and over... getting keyed, tires slashed, wheels stolen, windows broken, etc.

Cool. You can be my tour guide when I'm in Miami. We've got concealed carry permits here in NC, too. I plan on getting one.
