If it's an 85, it's not a Mera. Later in the ad, it says "KEVLAR body from a Mera mould." So it was apparently a kit splashed from a Mera. But Kevlar?
Who wants a bulletproof 308 kit?
KEVLAR is both lite and strong ,the bullit proof is just an added advantage {J/K] thin layup will not stop a 22 but at 1/2 the wieght of glass it is stronger and bends before cracking too if the right resin is used but KEVLAR costs alot lots of newer race car "glasswork" is KEVLAR nowdays

I know that.
But I believe this guy is using the Mera name illegally & Rodney should get after him just as much as he got after our own member who sold a car 3 months ago that is now being sold using the Mera name.
Amazing how this thread continued to roll along, dispite the hard facts early on the first page...
quote
It doesn't matter if he uses the Mera word, all that matters is how he uses it.
Nowhere in that auction does it state it's a Mera.
All it states is the body / kit is molded from a Mera... which is basicly true.
There is nothing to argue, there never was. You guys crack me up.
When I had my AMC last year, and hanging out at the AMC Forum, there were 2nd Gen Javelins that would come up for sale on eBay every so often with AMX trim, advertised as an AMX, but the VIN # specificly stated it was just a Javelin.
Several members of the AMC community would obviously contact the stranger selling the car and nicely tell them it was not a real AMX, it's a Javelin with AMX trim, the VIN number says so. Sometimes the person selling it would fix the auction, others would not and continue to mislead some non-educated bidders. That is wrong and that is fraud.
This "Mera" topic is a freaking joke in comparison.
If Harold advertised the car months ago on the Kitcar forum as a "PONTIAC MERA" then people would have a reason to be upset, hell it would bother me. If this car dealer who now owns Harold's old car and selling on eBay advertised it as a "PONTIAC MERA" that would also be wrong. But neither of them did, the car is advertised as a "308 KITCAR"
The fact is... Harold or the car dealer did nothing wrong. The only person who is wrong here is Rodney, for attacking Harold not once but twice, when the second time it wasn't even his vehicle any longer, doing it in public, and making a big deal over nothing.

I think that the best thing to do here is for Rodney to maintain the Mera registry and when people with fake Meras like the two on Ebay lately want to work with the registry, Rodney can tell the owners that they don't have real Meras, just fake ones. If the owner of the fake Mera doesn't care that their "Mera" is a ripoff of a real Mera then there's no harm, no foul. If the owner of the fake Mera thought they got a real Mera then they and their lawyers can work it out with the sellers.
Seems like a simple solution to me.

I can appreciate Rodney's motives, just as I can appreciate Harold's point of view. I just hate that it got out of hand. IMHO, it IS important if it's a real Mera or not, just as authenticating any rare production car is.
Can we just put this issue to rest?

It's only fair.

Don't ever want to go thru that again. Sorry. I'll email him and offer to sell him some Mera emblems.
Damn, howd I miss this thread........lol. The seller says " whats the difference...its a kitcar " is wrong. Mera was a factory built conversion, just like a new conversion van would be. MINE is a kitcar, because I built it with parts bought somewhere else. Thats a HUGE difference. Try telling that to buyers of Yenkos, Hodges, Shelbys.....are those kitcars because the Ford, Chevy or Chrysler factories didnt assemble them in their own building. Ferrari can only retaliate against manufacturers/ dealers of kits or ones using their name. Anyone can sell the kits online or wherever as long as they dont say the word 'Ferrari'.

Personally, I dont think the car sold to anyone. Target $$$ in my mind would be $15k or nothing. I think the guy had spoof bidders.
Also, did this happen to anyone else? The seller pulled my personal contact info. Now he might have done that to just contact me since I installed the engine. However, he might have pulled everyones contact info in order to make contact about 2nd chance offers "OFF" ebay via emails. So, did anyone else get the notice the seller pulled your contact info? Blake, I know you bid on the car..

Yeah, I got a notice that the seller pulled my contact info also.... and Loyde, you bid $6000.00 less than me!
It is worth every cent of $13,100.00... my problem is that I don't have 1,310,000 pennies to buy Harold's show winner. I am very surprised it did not go over $15,000.

Well it is for sale again... Before Rodney accuses me of this one, I took the first step and called the guy and set him straight about the Mera word. As far as Loyde thinking it was a ghost bid, you can go here and see that it actually sold to a guy in NY. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4532662551&category=7251 He only purchased it to turn around and sell it, and as you can see it is already over 15K... One thing I don't like is he repainted all the dash parts black, and he is using pictures I took at my house????????? WTF Maybe there is to much snow up in NY.

Someone probably posted a phony bid in an attempt to reveal the reserve. It happens all the time on eBay. I've heard of flipping houses to make a quick profit but never Fieros. I wonder if this guy knows what he's doing, I don't suppose the demand for 308 replicas has changed all that much in a month. Anyway I hope this car is eventually sold to an enthusiast and not someone just trying to make a quick buck.
