For the THIRD TIME in the past 3 months I got pulled over on in my '86 2m4 Sport Coupe! That wouldn't bother me so much IF I HAD BEEN DOING ANYTHING WRONG.......... The first time I got pulled over because she "thought" I wasn't wearing my seat belt and "thought" I might be going too fast. I WAS wearing my seat belt and had been going 57mph in a 55 mph zone! She told me to watch the speed and let me go on my way. The second time I got pulled over he said he "thought" I had tinted windows, and that my interior lights were illegal. I pointed out that none of my windows were tinted and that all of the interior lights were installed below the dashboard level and none of the bulbs were visible from outside of the car. He told me to watch my speed (WTF?), and let me go. The THIRD time I got pulled over was yesterday. This time the guy once again "thought" I may have been going too fast (I looked at the speedo when I saw him pull over to turn around and I was doing 59 mph in a 55 zone), that I was running without my headlights on (I had my parking lights and my foglights on, c'mon it was 4:15 p.m. !), and what he DID give me a warning ticket for was my license plate holders covered the lower 1/2 of the county I live in! Now what the heck is going on??????? Is my car so UGLY that they just HAVE to pull me over or what? Back when I had my RED '84 2m4 I got pulled over all the time for speeding, but back then I WAS speeding! A friend of mine got pulled over a couple of weeks ago in his '86 GT but he WAS going 69 mph in a 55 mph zone........... Does anyone else have this problem???????? Thanks for letting me vent. John P.S. And I'm looking at getting an '88 Formula too now, what are the chances of me getting pulled over and SHOT in that? LOL! ------------------ '86 Sport Coupe 2m4 '02 Chevy Tracker ZR2 (winter beater) '02 Yamaha XT 225 Enduro '02 Yamaha TTR 90 (my boy's toy)
If it's the car in your sig, it looks like it's moving when it's standing still. They're going to pick on cars that look like that. That's why I prefer the "sleeper" look
Are all these officers with the same police dept.? If so sounds like they are stopping you thinking they may find something else "the smell of drugs or you been drinking", maybe someone has told them some BS about you and they are using the small things just to get you stopped? If that the case go talk to the chief of police there and flat out ask him, but be nice about it and it may get you somewhere?!?!?!
Good luck

Your car does look "fast", and although it's not fair, you should probably expect a disappropriate number of tickets and whatnot for a car that attracts attention like yours. I'd bet the formula will get you less trouble than your sig car if it's left stock-looking.
I used to get pulled over ALL the time in my STOCK fieros red 85gt and i had an 87 blue gt. It was practically harassment the way Id get pulled over. Only once out of like 10 pull overs was the reason legit.
Now i drive an 03 sunfire with a body kit and 18 inch wheels and tinted windows you know the drill a nice looking car. Never ever get any problems with it. my driving habbits are still the exact same but after a year of driving my sunfire i drove my fiero one day to move it and low and behold the flashing blue and red lights. Apparently he seen me make an incomplete stop or some crap on a green light right turn???!?
Hmmm.....getting to the end of the year. Maybe there tring to create more revenue? Me?
#15 gets pulled over by HMB finest:
Local P.D. waiting in a darkened Shell gas station decides to pull me over. I know they offen lay in wait for motorist unawhere of the P.D. locations. I was going 35mph, the speed limit on 92 hwy. As I stop at the red light he pulls out behind with he's lights off. The light turns green, he follows. He flicks he's light on and next siren. I pull into locat shopping area.
Officer: "So I heard you been driving irradical." Me: "That's a lie." Officer: "Let me see your driver license."
A few moments later, another squad car arrives with barking dog. The officer lets the dog out of the car. I could over hear on the radio that it's (me) has no priors and its a OKC plates. One of the officer realizes that it's a guy he see's around town. The first officer give me my driver's license back and I leave. I rev on the gas before leaving. I was pissed!
Why pissed? Just one of those ways in which P.D. uses for pulling over people w/o committing any wrong. With out of state plates makes me a easy target too. END of RANT.

there are a lot of people out there who don't even know what a fiero is. i work with a few who have never heard of them. so maybe they see your car and think it's some sort of exotic and that gets their attention. quick jump from stop sign, no turn signal, any little violation they come after you. thinking that the price of an exotic car, must be bought with drug money. OR...maybe they just want a closer look to drool and can't come up with a good excuse to stop you.
I think the look of your car, and they probably assuming your a young kid racing around is whats doing it.
Well luckily I don't get pulled over to often, and I have the out of state plates, the tinted windows, the no front license plate deal etc...
However the last time, I did get followed quite a distance, and as soon as I noticed him I made sure I didn't do the slightest thing wrong, followed the speed limit while nobody else was, used all my signals etc... I figured he realized I was heading out of town, and that was probably his intention just to make me leave. Well a few blocks from the highway and I knew there were some twisting roads coming up, he wasn't right on my bumper (maybe thought I didn't see him back there). so once I saw the chance, I nailed it and flew thru the twisty parts of the road to gain even further distance on him) before he could realize what I did. Then disappeared down a few streets....wonder if that pissed him off? lol
I might have to becareful the next time in that town.

When I first got my car, I passed a cop going the other direction on one of our local roads. He hung a U-turn in a parking lot and fell in behind me. Followed me for about a mile (probably long enough to run the tag), then turned off. Haven't been bothered, since. And I just about always drive 5-10 over, just like the rest of the traffic. Even if a cop is right on my bumper, I'll *still* drive 5 over.

I haven't been pulled over in my Fiero before, but I should have today. I pulled out of a 4-way stop a little too fast and got a little too sideways before I realized that there was a cop right behind me. I think he was getting off duty because he took a right turn towards the police station. Thats the only reason I could think of why he didn't pull me over.
well, before i tell my story, just a little background about me.
im that typical teenager that believes he is not so typical because he has become better than most other drivers on the road (and also because he is invincible because he is only 18 - sarcasm). anyway, most would call me a reckless driver, but i defend myself in regards that i have avoided many possible wrecks that would have been other peoples faults. beyond this, i do "practice" my driving in "controlled uncontrolled" conditions, ie. i put my car into spins and slides in EMPTY parking lots and practice pulling out and recovering and other events of the sort, aka drifting. i used to speed by 5 or 10 mph on a regular basis. i have been pulled over 6 times, previous to this morning and have never had a ticket (1 for squeeling to a stop at a stoplight, 1 for not signaling my turn signal soon enough before changing lanes, 1 for doing 50 in a 40, and 3 for having one bulb in my taillights on on one side - the other bulb was still lit and they said it was out!!).
anyway, now that you know my driving status (and im sure you all cared) i venture on to tell what happened. lately ive developed a nasty habit of speeding uncontrollably, like 20 or so over. its bad, but i only choose to do it in areas where other cars and other peoples lives arent put at risk such as streets that only i am driving down. well this morning i was on my way home through town and i happened to pass a car on a downhill 4 lane road, speed limit 40. i passed and continued to speed climbing to 60 because there was nobody until the next stoplight over a mile away. i thought nothing of it until i saw the flashing lights of a cop about the time that i got to that stoplight.
i pulled over, he jumped out, saw my id/insurance, and then proceeded to write my very first long awaited and longer deserved speeding ticket for which i was doing 60 in a 40. he decided he would be nice though and knocked it down to a 49 in a 40 so it wouldnt go on my insurance. $120 nevertheless. that part sucked, but thats about the jist of it.
WHAT DID I LEARN FROM THIS: i have decided that i am to find the best possible way to make my car the least noticeable by all cops possible and to keep better alert when speeding. it should cause me to stop speeding, but in reality, it has only spurred my on to watch my way better. car enthusiast or fool?

I remember the first time I got pulled over. I was driving my 1980 Chev Monza Fastback which I painted up like the Spyder. It was white with a black racing stripe on the hood and a black wrap around spoiler. I had just finished putting new shocks and springs all the way around. Later that night I picked up a buddy of mine to go out and play some pool, and while driving down the road, I swerved the car back and forth gently to show him the improved ride.
Well, the headlights coming the other way just happened to be a police cruiser who IMMEDIATELY u-turned behind me and layed on the lights and siren. He saw me swerving and thougth I had been drinking. :} Fortunately I had the receipts and all the packaging in the back seat still, so it wasn't hard to explain. I did get a careles driving warning though.

It's your car, like the strips, I would never have then. I did a full power slide right in front of a cop, seen in my mirror afer the turn, made sure I was driving the speed limit. The cop sped up to catch up to me, paced me. Then drove on by. 85GT White with gray lower trim.

Well being a former police officer, I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt, no police officer worth anything would ever think that a Fiero is any real kind of sports car, not a real sports car anyway.

Welcome to the Forum Lambrogini! The stickers are there because the car is a Father/Son project (to be turned over to him when he gets his license), and he will be 9 next month and LOVES the way HIS car looks. Stickers because as he gets older his tastes will change, and it will be much easier to remove them than if they were paint. But if he wants to keep them, that's up to him! His car. We are curious to see pics of your car though, your user name hints at quite a vehicle!

I have so many run-ins with the police when I drive my Fiero. I've been pulled over because it looked like I was going fast (64 in a 65? come on), because my interior lights are red, and because my headlights looked like they were too low. Major BS reasons, but for each one I only got a warning.
When DeFiero and I were dating, He used to complain about how the cops in our town had it in for him.. I thought he was dreaming.... Drive crazy...pay the price.... They pulled him over for eveything from failure to use turn signal to tinted windows that weren't that tinted. They would follow him all around town... Just waiting for him to mess up...
Well then we switched cars for a couple of days... his needed some bodywork done and I had off from work. I'm just driving down the hwy.. Going about 53 in a 55.... Not changing lanes... Tags are fine... no weaving... Just minding my own business... Heading to my grandparents. Road that I travel all the time. With no problems with the cops. And here comes this city cop.....Barrelling up behind me. Flicks on his lights and starts to pull me over. Remember I'm now in DeFiero's car.... Cop pulls up next to me on the hwy to motion me over and sees that it isn't him. Waves at me, turns off his lights, and mouths "SORRY", and speeds off.... After that we switched cars often until they finally left him alone.
Now don't get me wrong. There are some awesome police officers out there. And they do a wonderful job of keeping us safe everyday. But these pricks give the good guys a bad name. And its a shame. In my area the pricks outweigh the good guys by about 30 - 1........
I think I know why he thought you had "tinted windows". The next after I got my Fiero I showed it to my brother. He said "Hey Josh the window over here is busted & cracked" I walked around the car and he was talking about the sail panel I started laughing. I told him it wasn't a window. When I read this and after what my brother said, the cops probably think that the sail panels are "windows" and are extremely black lol. That might be the reason lol, pretty funny one at that. I wonder how many fastback guys get the "tinted windows" thing(and there windows aren't really tinted) over us notchie guys lol.
See how a person not familiar with a Fiero could think this??
