Yep Mama Penguin you are right there are some really bad cops out there, no doubt and I am sorry that you and Del Fiero had to go thru that crap, but always remember don't let the bad ones ruin your image of cops, there are a lot of good ones out there that try to do thier job to the best of their ability....

Very true. Out of any cross-section of society, there will always be a certain small percentage of "maladjusted" people. Cops included. Unfortunately, the maladjusted people (on both sides of the law) seem to be the ones who stand out, and get all the press. I worked for Motorola for ten years, and got to know many of my Police/FD customers quite well. By and large, they were all really good people. There were one or two that truly frightened me, just by their attitudes.
Sorry I didn't welcome you before. My bad. Welcome to our obsession!

I think I know why he thought you had "tinted windows". The next after I got my Fiero I showed it to my brother. He said "Hey Josh the window over here is busted & cracked" I walked around the car and he was talking about the sail panel I started laughing. I told him it wasn't a window. When I read this and after what my brother said, the cops probably think that the sail panels are "windows" and are extremely black lol. That might be the reason lol, pretty funny one at that. I wonder how many fastback guys get the "tinted windows" thing(and there windows aren't really tinted) over us notchie guys lol.
See how a person not familiar with a Fiero could think this??
I pulled my original sails and replaced them with sails with the Peg in flames

I have been pulled over 10 times in 1 1/2 yrs. Only one of those times it was NOT in a fiero.. and a couple times it was the same cop (state highway patrol). One time I was sitting at a stop sign to cross a 4 lane highway to go down route 143 (2 lane road..) I saw the cop driving by and as he did he was looking at my car. I noticed he was going slow when he passed by and when he passed and i started across the 4 lane, i saw him turn around. When i got to the first place i could pull over ( some guys driveway) i went ahead and pulled over. ( i was the only person on the road). I had everything ready for him by the time he pulled in behind me with his lights on. When he came up to the window, i handed him everything and i asked him if he pulled me over for my lic' plate in my windshield instead of on my front bumper. He just laughed a little and said "That and you have a neat looking car i wouldnt mind taking a look at." He then handed back my stuff, walked to th front of my car and then down the pass side, walked back up to my drivers side window and started asking me questions like "What have you done to it? and "How long have you been working on it?" I told him and i think i talked to him for about 10-15 minutes. Then he got back in his car and left. He seemed like a nice guy. I miss driving that fiero..

Never been pulled over in my Feiro, although, I know I should have been at least once. Was doing 55-60 in a 40/45 I don't know, but the cop had a radar gun pointed right at me and never even left his spot. That particular surface street gets some really fast drivers, though, and he may have been waiting for bigger fish to fry. May be because I live in California - southern, that is, and people drive crazy fast all the time here. I know I deserve tickets at times, because I always speed. As raydar said earlier I am driving 5-10 over all the time. If there is room I speed. What really gets my goat is that cops generally won't pull you over for 5 miles over, but then you get these yokels that go 5 under when there is a cop - may be lamborgini can chime in here and give some insight about those expereinces. I have passed cops on the freeway doing 5 over. Good luck on the ticket issues.

This is the only time I was ever pulled over in the 3 Fiero's I've owned! My 87GT five years ago! Man did he feel like an idiot when I told him that it was not a real window and he stuck his head in the passenger side to see if he could look out Just then I should've done the world a favor and hit the gas but then I'd have to clean up the mess on the passenger seat when I got home

I have to agree with those who say the car "looks" fast sitting still etc., it does ask for a bit of attention.
I have a white 88 coupe...basically stock in appearance. Have put 75,000 miles on it in the past 5 years, with 90% of that commuting up and down interstate 80 (speed limit 65) back and forth to work. I've had cops pull up behind me at 80mph, so I pull to the next lane to the right and drop it to oh say 75, and they go on by. I've had cops pass me when I was doing 85. I've lost track of the number of times that i've encountered cops when doing 15+ over the limit.
I really believe it's 45% driving something that doesn't catch their attention, 45% not doing something that will catch their attention (weaving traffic, fastest car in sight, etc.), and 10% luck. I know my day's coming sooner or later, but you have to leverage the odds.
oh, and if your tags are out of date, car is illegally lit (it is illegal to drive with parking lights on and headlights off for ANY reason!), stuff dangling from the rear view mirror, loose occupants in the car...those are all great ways to attract unwanted attention.
ive been pulled over in my fiero for alot of stupid reasons, some of them legit, some of them not. Ive been pulled over for speeding 3 times, excessive acceleration once, tinted tailights, different color paint, out of date tags, and some other bogus stuff that i cant really think of now. My car stick out like a sore thumb (or something else if your from Iowa ) and i used to drive fast, so i guess i had it comming to me, but my winter car, a BMW, i never once got pulled over in except for a headlight out and doing doughnuts in a snowy parking lot (i had that one comming). I wonder if its just me or if its my car lol.

Well it snowed last night :-( The Christmas lights are up, the Fiero is in storage, so I guess the local law will just have to put away the ticket book until spring....... (sigh).

You want to talk about getting pulled over for no reason, try driving a lime green painted Fast and Furious style Fiero. Even my Dad (87V6GT) who never gets pulled over got pulled over driving Jordans Fiero once. The officers are always visibly shocked when they see who is "actually" driving the car as they obviously always seem to expect someone younger behind the wheel We are actually going to court next month for a speeding ticket I got while driving Jordan and his Fiero to a car show earlier this fall. I was following my Dad in his Blue 87 GT and we were almost in Concord NH and state cop who was standing out near the road was pointing to a van to pull over and as we were going by he looked up and quickly let my Dad go by and then pointed to have me pull me over. He gave me a ticket for speeding which we were not, and then threatended to give me more when I started to argue as he then did a quick "inspection" of the Fiero and claimed he could find a lot more wrong with it. When I asked him why he pulled me over and not both of us as I explained that I was following the blue Fiero that I pointed out ahead of me where my Dad had parked to wait he said something like go argue that with the judge No problem, we will
