Okay, dealer, or whatever T-Tops, but anyway

How rare is an 86 with T-tops. Im guessing pretty. The cars and concepts sticker under the decklid reads ?/?/85 I dont remember the exact date, but its definitly 85, i'll have to get in and check the production date, then compare it to the t-top date, but im pretty positive its dealer ordered. I've never heard of another one, has anyone else?

The pics aernt the greatest, I'll have to get some in the daylight

Look on your RPO sticker, if they were dealer ordered you will findthe code, "CJB". If you found that on an 85 it would be extremely rare as the dealers didn't start ordering T-tops until the 88 model year.

The so-called aftermarket t-tops were virtually identical and in a lot of cases were installed by the same C&C shop in Brighton Michigan. The easy way to tell is if your weatherstip is molded in one piece with the part that holds the headliner then it's CJB. Otherwise it will be in two parts. Let us know. Thanks.

- Jonathan

Ps As for the rarity, yes in general very few Fieros have T-tops... Only 1255 of the CJB models were ordered by dealers. It''s estimated that 2,500 or so of the non-CJB were made. Compare this to the 380,000+ Fieros made. No one knows how many T-tops are still on the road. There might be a handful of kits still floating around, but to get t-tops today it means taking them off of another car that had them.

I thought they did not use the CJB code until 88. It does not have that code on the RPO. The headliner is held in place by a plastic "c" shaped strip, and clips in right on the outer lip of the wetherstripping
The production date sticker is MIA, but the C&C sticker has the following:
Cars and Concepts
bla bla bla
71 circled in the top right corner
By Auto Options
In Cols(????) Ohio
11/8/85

It sounds like one of the 2,500 or so non-CJB t-tops that were installed by one of the C&C authorized installers. Your guess is as good as mine as to how many were actually built or are still on the road. Congratulations on the find.

My 86 GT was a dealer fitted t-top car. I bought it off the original owner. C&C fitted them. Only real difference between the cars besides the obvious slight different style is the 88s had the factory code. Either way they was mostly dealer fitted tops. Wen I spoke to Fairmont Skylight about numbers they had it was about 2500 fitted before 88. That was from paperwork they had from C&C when they bought the stock.

Anyone have a guess as to what it would take to convert a Fiero with a Sunroof to t-tops? Is it possible without finding a t-top fiero?

Do a search on jscott1's T-top install here on the forum. He recently did this and took very good pictures and documented it very well.. You'll have to find a set of Fiero T-tops somewhere. They are available for sale but usually not cheap. There is at least one set for sale in the mall now... You'll need some tools, better than average mechanical skills and a lot of nerve to do the conversion but it can be done...
