Hey guys, just wanted to inform you, and hopefully get some of you to show up. Here goes:
This weekend at Brainerd International Raceway, they are holding a Nascar Elite Series Race. Among other races, with the Viper club, and a SCCA sactioned event. This is a Fri. Sat. Sun event, but we don't have to be there for every day.
So, what do they want from us? Funny you should ask. They want us to bring a group of cars up for a few things. 1st off, a general "Car Corall" Just an informal showing of our cars to the general public. We can decide how to set up our little area, weather we want it to be fenced off, or not, how we want the cars parked, and all that fun stuff.
Second, they want us there for [And this is the fun part] doing charity rides over the lunch our on Sat. In other words we get to cruise the track at no cost to us. There will be people paying to go for a ride in our cars around the track. All the profits go to charity, so it's for a good cause too. There is a certain speed limit, but as long as you aren't trying to kill someone, I think if you are going at a reasonable speed they aren't going to bug you about it.
Some of the best parts, It shouldn't cost us a thing. Since we will be considered "workers" We will receive free tickets to the races, as well as free camping. Now keep in mind that the camping is just that, you bring a tent, and they are going to let you set it up on their infield for free. There are showers, and bathrooms near the camping area on the infield as well, so if you are in need of your monthly shower on this weekend, we can get that taken care of. Also, there are plenty of very closeby resturants if you don't want to move your car, and if you don't want to bring food with you.
Right now we are trying to get a good amount of cars to show up, somewhere between 15-20, but it doens't have to be that many. But as always, the more the merrier.
O yea, almost forgot. They expect somewhere between 15 and 20 thousand spectators to show up at this event. So, if you want our little cars to get the exposure they deserve, this would be the event to do it at.
So, let me know asap if you are interested in going. Respond here, or pm me or e-mail me, it all works the same.
Thanks, Eric

I'd be interested but doubt anyone would pay to ride in an '86 4cyl notchy, lol.
Timdinger:
We aren't going up there to race, we are going up there to show some cars, and give some rides. Like I said in my intiall post, we'll just be going around the track at a sensable speed to show the spectators what it's like from the drivers point of view. If I go [might get caught up in something else this weekend] I'll be bringing my maroon car, which if you recall correctly, is a four banger. So, we won't be able to go in a straight line real fast, and I'm ok with that, because I want to wow the spectators in the corners. That's what makes my car fun.
Also, to answer a PM that I got.
I would like to head up late Fri, or early Sat. Since camping will be free I don't think it'll be a big deal to head up Fri if that's what the masses want to do. The charity rides are on Sat from 11:30-12:30. If you want, you can leave right after that. But, if I read the schedual correctly, there is a "Cruizin' The Course" thing for the car clubs Sat evening. And the Nascar Elite Race is on Sun. So if you would like, you can stay for that. It's totally up to the person coming.

You bringin' your car putz. It's gonna be pretty cheap. . . except for the 100 gallons of 100 octane that you will burn up at the track. As you try to keep it under 140 at the track.

Sounds interesting ... got any links for us? ... and how many firm takers do you have so far? Second... how about hotel rooms? Took a few minutes checking Orbitz, Hot wire and such but could not come up with anything. Do they perhaps have some reserved, or are you out on your own?
This sounds awesome and I'd really like to go! Only thing is I'm very low on funds lately and even driving up there + any fees we might end up with anyway could be a problem for me right now... it sounds like a blast, though, and I'm going to try hard to make it.

Tina, Links I don't have, as most of this is being relayed from one of the organizers, and told to me from there.
Firm takers, looks about like 5-7 for sure at the moment. . . . more is always better.
Hotel rooms, I might be able to come up with one for you, Steve [one of the oganizers] has a few on reserve, and he is checking if any of those are still available.

The main day is the 21st. That is the day we will be giving charity rides, and having the car corral. There will be a small caravan heading out Fri. [the 20th] night and camping and be there most of the day, if not the full day on Sat.

Keep in mind, this is not a test session, nor a race. We will be able to drive the cars around the track, but they want people inside the cars limits, not at the edge. I'm sure you knew that, but I just wanted to state it again so that there is no confusion at all.
New News
Just got off the phone with Steve tonight. It was confirmed, the tickets and camping are going to be free. We will be considered "workers"
For those coming up with the caravan Fri, we need to be at the track no later than 7:30, as that is when the reg. booth closes. It will open again at 7:00 Sat. morning if you want to come up early Sat. They want us to be there Fri night, or very early Sat morning so we can get the cars situated and not have to move them around much. . .if at all. Also, each participant of this event must sign a waiver, and get their wrist bands. Those are all done at the big NHRA building at the main entrance of the track. If you are not caravaning up with me, then you must contact me so I can give you the rest of the info.
One last thing, please post here or PM me with a definate yes or no answer if you are coming, I would like to give Steve a certain number as soon as possible.

Just Another option, Tim, Jeff is going to be pulling his car up there, and at the meeting, he offered a ride to anyone who wants to go. So, if you can make it to the cities, we can get you up there for the day.

I am still trying to work out plans if I can go. IF I DO Go, it will be early Saturday morning (6-7AM) and returning early Saturday afternnon after the charity runs. Contact me if you want to caravan. Looking to possibly trailer the Stinger up. Jeff
I'll let everyone know the Fri. caravan plans as soon as I get everything organized. Which should be tomorrow night. I am hoping to leave somewhere betwwen 4 and 5 Fri. evening. Which would put us up there right at about eight.
Tina, if you get a hold of Jeff, he is heading up on Sat morning as well, if you would like to travel with him. I'll let you know the rest of the details tomorrow when everything gets completly set in stone.

Ok, how's this for the Cities people that will be leaving on Fri.
We meet somewhere at 4:00 pm. Leave absolutly no later than 4:30. Head up 169 'til 10, then take 10 to 371. That will take us right to the track. If someone knows a better way, please let me know.
So let's say we meet. . . .at the Holiday gas station off 494 and Carlson parkway. That will give us the option of heading up 494 if 169 is packed.
Sounds like fun if I didn't have a friend coming in from the east coast and if my car wasn't leaking break fluid, didn't have something loose in the front pass. suspension and wasn't throwing MAP and EGR codes under acceleration.
Have fun... hopefully I will get to participate some day...
yeah, it sounds like a good plan. if those 2 hwys are packed i know alot of the other routes as well. (im sure others do too) the only thing i might change on it is take 101 out of rogers instead of taking 169 through anoka. we can talk alternative routes before we leave too

alright... if you're taking 10 through St. Cloud... give me a call... 612-964-7253. I'm about 15 minutes north of the Clear Lake stoplight on 10, off of E. St. Germain st.
Just remember ladies and gents, boys and girls. Those who are heading up with me on Fri, we are camping up there, so bring all neccessary gear. . . ie tent, sleeping bag/blankets, pillow, towel to dry yourself if you plan to shower. . . .all that fun stuff. I'm sure you all alredy knew that but just for a reminder, I don't want anyone leaving anything behind.
