My sister-in-law has a 944 her dad fixed up for her for a total of 2000, and many weeks of his time. Would it beat my basic 86? Every time. Is she an arrogant poser? Every day. Could she ever afford the repairs or race it herself? Not a chance. But she has the coffee mug and the key chain and the jacket and it gives her something to brag about. Good for her, I'll take the fiero. I don't need a porsche to prop me, even though I could.

you missed the point of my post there skippy...

The point...even a so-called ""grandma mobile" is now faster than any production fiero. It's called progress / technology. And the duke is an aging turd that will never be capable of making any kind of real HP.

<Puts his hand up.> Ummm, the Iron Duke *is* a piece of crap and can't get out of it's own way. If you think it's a good engine, may I suggest you actually drive a car with a good four cylinder?

And before you flame me, you should know that I have 50 hours and a few hundred dollars into a 1987 coupe restoration. Is it because I love the Duke? Nope. I've driven one everyday for the past five years, and would like to be rid of that turd. But, when I bought the car I thought it would only need another engine. Everything I have taken apart has been worn or broken, so the project has migrated to "restore" status.

It is, after all, a Fiero. A really, really slow Fiero. A Fiero with a dog turd for an engine. A Fiero that, on a good day, MIGHT crack 10s to 60. And yes, I know how to drive it.

If you think the Duke-powered Fiero is fast, you really need to move out of the 1970's.

Oh, it's spelled "Porsche", by the way.

Yeah I agree with you about the "Barely 100hp in a 2400lb car? Not much excitement there" statment.....now that I think about it, that sounds just like the specs on a 4-banger fiero.....maybe pontiac was taking a page from porsche when it came to producing the fiero.

Besides if the stock engines in the fiero are so great why is the prevalence of engine swaps so high?
