although i already posted a few bits on the GTP prototype in the original Mall thread where i bought the car, i thought i would paste the posts here as well since this is where any pics and info on it should be posted (general topics instead of the Mall).
i really dont want to take too many pics of the proto until it is completely assembled on its new T-Top chassis. I decided to go with the perfect 87 T-Top gt chassis that i have, rather than finding a Sunroof chassis that the car originally had for two reasons;
1) already have the T-Top chassis in my driveway, and i love T-Tops
2) i am at the limit of cars my property can store legally (9 fieros, 69 mustang, V8 Miata, 97 WS6 T/A) and would need to part the T-Top out to make room for a sunroof car.
i also figure thant since the original chassis was crushed at GM, it really makes little difference what chassis i use, because the VIN# only remains on the engine and would not match ANY chassis i find
BTW I would someone tell me exactly where on the block i can find the VIN#
before it was dissassembled
the wheels on the car

damn, i really like that body! are those available still?
sadly neither these wide bodies, nor the molds they came from, exist anymore. this body style was never offered to the general public and was available only for racing applications. in late 83, a Denver CO Pontiac dealer bought 3 of these racing widebodys from Diversfield Glass Products and installed them on 3 street fieros they had on their lot (which required extensive modification to get the body to fit a stock frame instead of the race tubular chassis it was designed for).
As far as i know all 3 of the cars were modified identicly to mine, i.e. Superduty engine parts, turbo, susspension etc.
From what i was tols by the previous owner, only one other of these rare Fieros is still known to exist besides mine, and it has had extensive alterations and modifications, retaining very little of its original set-up and condition.
DGP did however made body kits similar to the Racing DGP widebodys. here is a brochure showing the 3 stages of kits they offered in the mid 80's
if you compare all 3 stage kits made for street use to the one on my car, there are many significant differences from the racing Widebody. but they still look great.
i am pretty sure the molds for the racing widebody are no more. however a company called IRM bought the molds for the stages I, II, III kits, and offerend them for a few years after DGP. IRM then went out of business and the molds were recently aquired by a Forum member named 007doug. he has a web site where he is offering freshly made stage I, II, and III body kits made from the same molds that made the body kits in the brochure pics i posted above. Here is his Web address. http://www.ovis.net/~dmkfiero/main.html

I've never seen one of those before! Did Fieros come with that from the factory?
as far as i can tell, all manual 4cyl Fieros came with that sticker on the drivers sun visor, possibly only the earlier years, i cant remember for certain

The VIN should be on the block, just above the starter, on the flange where the tranny bolts on. It should be on the flat portion of the flange that faces the firewall.

Contrary to popular belief, California will *not* sink into the ocean because of an earthquake. It will, however, sink into the ocean under the weight of all of Monkey's and Songman's Fieros.

Memories.....like the corner of your mind......blah, blah, blah! It looks almost exactly how I remembered it. After seeing pics of the interior I can tell you that that steering wheel was definitley not on the car back in the early 90's......I hope you remove it (it looks hideous, IMO).
Good luck with the refreshening.....you have one neat car there!

yes, the steering wheel is coming off. although, the original one is troubling me, as it is my least favorite of ALL the Fiero steering wheels...
what i was instead thinking of doing was using a spare Indy Pace Car steering wheel that i have, since the color matches the interier well AND it was an 84 Item, and then using the center horn button from the original wheel above to tie it in to its original and sort of comprimise. what do you think?
like this (only with the color of the wheel restored of course)

hmm, that would be tough, especially with it being that far away. i would prefer something a bit closer. i suppose it would be ok if it were a well established and secure museum.

Monkey, I offically hate you now! I think you should send me that DGP fiero. Just in case CA does fall into the ocean, we wouldnt want to loose all those rare fieros! Think about it! Just a favor to you, no need to send money for me to do it!

I am curious, what is the production number for that 84 widebody? Looks like a Coupe or Sport Coupe.
My dads 84 4-Speed Fiero does not have a shift sticker, but it has the pockets in the sun visors, and that sticker looks like it would not fit on a pocketed sun visor.

ill think about it BV
befarrer, you are right about the shift sticker, it only came on the non pocketted sunvisors (as far as i can tell) the car the banshee was built on in 83 was a standard 4-speed white coupe. it was manufactured in nov 83
