I hate to dissapoint you, but there is no such thing as a transverse BOP transmission. They would'nt sell V8 kits If such a transmission was available. I know it looks like a BOP, but, a BOP dips down in the center about 2" between the top two bolts. Have another look at the bolt pattern on your parents car (I know, its gone) there is a straight line from one of the top bolts to the other. That 3.8 SFI is not the same as the 3.8 SFI that they used in GN's, they are equipt with the FWD bellhousing, and not so high performance parts. They are only 150 horses. The 3800's came out in 88, those had 165 horses. Its just a much more refined version of the 3.8 SFI from that buick park ave.

strange??? after washing the engine down in this car it allways held water in the "Ditch" as my father called it the u-shaped area where the trans bolts to the block. I'm no wipper-snapper, I'll be 35 tuesday . I'm telling ya this trans had a BOP pattern. know this as fact, dad and I pulled it to replace the torque converter seal. as a joke I hung it on my 350 PONTIAC v-8 that I had pulled out of a 74 Lemans. this car was a 85 1/2 or 86 buick Park avanue. The upgraded lesabere.-B-

I'm sure many of us would like to see such a thing. Please show us, it'd be handy.

Back on topic. A GNX engine would be a great one to have in a fiero, but the cost would be vary high both for the engine itself
(unless luck was really on your side) and the conversion. In my opinion I would start with a 3800sc (stage 2) and add all the
goodies I could afford. There are almost as many possibilities out there as there are wants. Decide what you want and then start
buying the parts you will need.
When I first started I wanted a 4.3 + 4bbl carb. 5 speed, I ended up with a 4.9 + 2bbl and 4 speed auto. I still have (3) 4.3 engines, one 262cid (6cyl) highrise 4bbl dome sitting in the garage. Good luck to you.

"That 3.8 SFI is not the same as the 3.8 SFI that they used in GN's, they are equipt with the FWD bellhousing, and not so high performance parts."

This is absolutely correct, the 86-87 FWD 3.8 block (transverse setup) and 86-87 RWD GN motor had only had few things in common; The rods were the same, the crank was very similar (they both had rolled fillets), You can swap the top half of the motor meaning that you can put GN heads and intake on the FWD 3.8 block or vice versa. The trans bolt pattern is NOT THE SAME. Initially my plans were to use a FWD 3.8 block out of an 87 Bonneville and bolt on GN heads and intake, steel main caps, forged pistons and so on. A friend of mine in Colorado has done a Fiero with a 87 FWD 3.8/ GN heads intake combo is already running out there, he has no IC yet, I believe he ran 13.20's with 7 lbs of boost ( he will be pushing 23-26lbs of boost when he is all dialed in). He has the stock Fiero auto trans beefed up behind it. We will see how well that trans hold up. I came to the conclusion that after all the money that I will be putting into a FWD 3.8 block, I will not have a strong enough trans to go behind it, so I went to the longitudinal setup with TH325-4L (beefed up.) which is a BOP bolt pattern and a actual motor out of a GN for my latest combo.
