Looking good! I too could not believe the prices they want for gaskets on this mtr. I priced out a complete upper and lower end rebuilt kit and it was close to $1000.00
Keep up the pics and the progress reports. ehh

Looking good! I just finished rebuilding my 4.9 and it is alot of work. I went alittle different rout. I bought an 86se 4 banger with a blown engine so I could take its engine cradle out and build my swap on it. When its ready to go I'll put it into my 87GT and then put the good V-6 into the se and sell it for alittle profit. I'm also going carb, just for ease of instalation. Did you go with Joe's mounts or your own design?
Seems like this swap is getting more popular all the time
Keep us posted

yes what are you doing in terms of wiring? I cant wait to get my swap started, *hopefully* this summer i pick up a 4.9

I say the wiring is probably the hardest part of the swap and I am using the caddy injection. It isn't rocket science, just a lot of hours going one wire at a time and splicing and/or verifying. Mine took me about 50 hours but I tend to be overly cautious on these things. I could probably do it in half the time now that I have done one.

Well I think your doing a smashing job so far. I will hopefully be doing my 4.9 swap very soon here(Tax Return!). I just hope mine looks as nice as yours. I like how you've painted everything. Gives it a very clean look. Keep us posted and the more pics the better.

Some guys have removed that tank. I wouldn't. It is the expansion tank for the fuel tank. It guarantees there is available space for the fuel to expand to when it gets hot and the tank is totally full. The design of the Fiero tank allows the tank to be totally filled where most cars have a dome to prevent the tank from being totally filled. It needs air to be able to compress when the fuel expands.
i had some more time to work got my injectors back inj the rail painted my rear brakes getting the half shafts ready for paint i will try and work on it more after dinner and tommrow. and i have one question Why dont u guys like my work i see that crazyone is dont the same thing and every body post asking him questions and giving him props and not very many peeps do it for me why not ??

I think it's because, like me, most have no interest in actually DOING the swap- I love the idea, and would love that engine in my car, but I have neither the time or the money to do it. So, what really can I ask? I read this thread becuase I love those in-depth posts with tons of pics about complex matters, especially ones so well done. I have no tech questions because mine is staying stock, so...
Don't worry, we are all lurking around here somewhere, and if you lay dormant for a while I bet someone will ask "any more pics? WE WANT MORE!". I would.
Like Savagery said, we are all too busy looking at the pics. I am still flip flopping about which engine to put in my GT, the 4.9 or the 3800SC. I would prefer the 4.9 but I have not seen too many that actually look pretty in the engine bay. Depending on how yours comes out I think you may have made my decision for me. Keep the pictures coming. Great Job.
Looking good! Just a little tip go to the junk yard and get another front valve cover for the rear. Why I say this is that if you install the rear cover on the engine and install the engine it will hit the hing on the pass. side firewall. If you look at your front cover it has a corner that is lower on one side, with that on the back it will clear the hing and you won't need to cut the lower part of the hing off. I just did this on one of are club members 4.9 that he's installing into a 88 fiero.

Looking GREAT what made you decide on the 4.9 instead of a 350? Isent the same work involved or is 350 less? Here are those pesky Q's you were looking for
Hey Guys My dad and i have not really been working on my car but today me and my dad got some stuff done.
This was our first idea for a idler pully but it didnt do what we wanted.
We liked this idea better now we need to get a belt and we will be in busness. Started to work one the wiring harrness. Their really insnt much stuff left to do before i can drive it but i still need to paint the engine bay i was thinking a nice shade of PINK would do
But really would a copple coats of gloss black look good or should i go por 15.
Thanks

Oh i all most forgot to answer Red85GT's question i picked the 4.9 swap because of money (yea right) and because the motor bolts right up to the tranny. And it weighs less then the 2.8

What tensioner did you end up using and do you have any better pics and a p/n #? I like yours much better then the Fiero Factory set up.

He added a pice on metal to stop the back of the pully from swing around.
It mounts on the bottom hole were the stock wheel was my dad shaved a 1/8th of a inch off to get it to line up.
As for this umm we went to pull and save and got it but it was on a GM early 90's v6 motors i will try and figure out witch car it was off of. This is to try an get more belt on the altentor but i dont really know what that is from either.
