DivX/MPEG4 would work well for high res videos, and at a lower bitrate then MPEG. It plays on All current OS's, but does require a faster cpu to decode properly
so either DiVX or MPEG1-2 (depending on the resolution) would work well.

I tried to play it I windows media player and it wouldn’t work, so I tried with divx but still didn’t have the right codec. I think it is an ATI only code, here is a link maybe it will help. I have an ATI capture card also but it won’t work ether. I’m trying to update my ATI player right now. http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/2366.html

I also could not play the video. I use Quicktime for AVI, and even after installing all available updates, I could play the sound, but no video. Quicktime says there are problems with the video because a required compressor couldn't be found.
I *can* play AVI files, so not sure what the problem is with this one.
You all should be hearing some audio - the audio is just your basic PCM (.wav) 8 bit at 88kbps (44 stereo I'm guessing). The video codec is called "ATI-VCR2". It comes with the ACE Mega Codecs Pack v. 5.49 beta.
Archie, I can probably help you. What program are you using?
That video plays twice.. and the second time, at the very end, I spy with my little eye.. the Stinger? A blue Fino, and is that a gold lamborghini kit?
P.S. encode them in DivX!

Support for previous ATI video codecs VCR1 and VCR2 was also dropped from the ALL-IN-WONDER® RADEON™, making users upgrading from previous ATI VIVO and ALL-IN-WONDER® cards unable to read their previously saved files. Will ATI support those codecs, at least for conversion to other formats, or provide some other solution to this issue
The are no current plans to update these proprietary codecs or to include them with ATI® MULTIMEDIA CENTER 7.x (or later) on ALL-IN-WONDER® RADEON™ or ALL-IN-WONDER® 128 or ALL-IN-WONDER®128 Pro. However for the playback of existing VCR1/VCR2 content, there are unsupported versions of the codecs, which can be used on ALL-IN-WONDER® RADEON™ or other systems, available at the following link: http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/ATIVCRX.html
Right now I’m running Win XP and an ALL IN WONDER 128 pro with it I could only hear the audio. I downloaded the above link and it worked

Worked fine for me using WMP. Tho the sound was really bad just like the Dave vids.
Who's car was it? V8?
That was MotorTV 's car. LT1, Hot Cam, 5 speed.
I'm sick of screwing with this computer..... I'm going to go buy a new one this weekend. Also a new video capture system, anyone have a suggestion for a good video capture system?

Although you may not opt for this, Archie, I might as well lay it out to you as an option, if you would be so kind as to consider it. I build computers on a case-by-case basis (pun intended), fully custom. The computers I build are faster, more stable, and less expensive than one you would buy at, say, Best Buy. The reason for being faster and more reliable is because I don't skimp on components - I only use quality parts when building computers. I can sell these computers at low prices because I don't make much profit off of each computer. You'll see companies like Alienware making over 100% profit on each computer sold, which is ridiculous. I ask between 10% and 20% profit. Depending on your price range and what you want to do with your computer, I can quickly give you a price quote and a list of all components used. My computers come preloaded with any OS of your choice - usually Windows XP Home. My computers come in many shapes and sizes, but the trend I've been seeing recently (and have followed, loving it) is the small form factor PCs. Picture: That is my personal computer. Powerful as heck, and all in a small, quiet package. Let me know if you're interested.
Oh, and what would I recommend for video capture? Definitely the All In Wonder 9700 Pro, if you can afford it. They can be had for around $385 from newegg.com and are unbelievable. I put one of these in the most recent computer I built for a friend and it's amazing what these cards can do. They even have Cable TV input so you can record your favorite shows on your computer and watch them later.
Hope this helped

I finally got it to work on divx and wmp had to down load new codec thou. I think it is because Archie is using a one of the first All-In-Wonder card, back then ATI was trying to get everyone to use their proprietary software and not many of the players support it now. I wish they could make up one standard and stick with it maybe mpeg4
Hey WipeOut I was wondering what form factor those new cases are, baby atx maybe or are they new? You also said you build quiet package, any thoughts on a quiet CPU fan for a 2400 athlon?

I recommend that if you are going to be doing real video capturing that you get something alittle better than ATIs cards because their cards really arnt that good. If someone wants to capture it in one format I would be willing to convert it into something else if someone wants that Being I have alot of video compression software.

if you have Windows Media Player, then copy the link, go to "file" in WMP then "open URL" then paste the url in the box and hit enter. It will work for you then

These new cases are SFF (small form factor). It's a brand new standard that is catching on real rapidly. AlienWare is selling SFF PCs as multimedia centers. Dell is selling some SFF PCs as internet terminals for educational facilities - my college has a bunch of them.
What's great about these SFF barebones systems from Shuttle is that they come with their own heatsink and fan assembly. They use heat pipe technology, loosely based on how refrigerators work - except passive, not active. For "normal" computers, I'd recommend the Thermalright SLK900. I had an SLK800, which is the same thing basically, and it's great. The SLK series from ThermalRight is holding the top three in the overclockers.com heatsink comparison.

Not if you don't have the right codec..? Or does it magically find somewhere to download from? It's happened before..

Okay folks, I got a copy of the videotape from Archie today and ripped it into DivX 5.0.3. Say what you will about ATI vidcap, their hardware is solid it's just the software that can leave a little to be desired. I'm using a beta 7.6 version of their new software for WinXP and it's sweet.
Thanks CrazyDave, and I totally agree. I've had nothing but good experiences out of the ATI All-In-Wonder cards. It doesn't hurt that they double as good video cards, too!
I am actually using an ATI TV Wonder card, which is an inexpensive add-on card that does video-capture only. It can't do stereo audio on broadcast/coax input, but on composite/RCA input capture (like from a VCR) I can do stereo. I have a GeForce4-MX series video card for gaming and graphics. They work well together.
I captured the original in MPEG2 format and it was 117MB when I converted it, so I better not hear any complaints about the DivX version!

If you can't see the video, then you likely don't have the right Codec either (Divx 5.0.3 is rather new). Go to http://www.divx.com and click on the "Divx" tab. Then download the free installer on the far right, and install.
I still couldn't view it with WMP (it apparantly doesn't read the codec installed by the download), but the installer also includes DivX Player 2.1 which played it just fine!
Is the server its on just slow or bogged down right now? Im on a 1.3 megabit connection here and its only downloading at 8/kb?, thats like 56k speeds I had to abort the download.. was taking forever.
