God forbid if someone is able to shoehorn a 12-cylinder in a Fiero. The V8 guys will no longer be at the top of the food chain.

I stay out of the "which engine/tranny combo is faster" debates, and for good reason. First of all, most of it is "bench racing" so to speak... a bunch of personal opinion and wishful thinking. Second of all, anyone with a big enough wad of cash can make any engine go fast, even an Iron Duke. And last but not least, there is more to a car than simply going fast.

Also, it is my personal opinion that the SBC V8 engine doesn't fit the personality of the Fiero. I like V8's, I just don't think they belong in the Fiero's engine compartment. Old-tech V8's are for pony cars. And the Fiero is not a pony car.

But like I said, that's just my personal opinion. And I usually keep it to myself. I just wish others would do the same.

Well as a V/8 owner I think I will speak my little mind here.
I bought my Fiero to put a v/8 in and I drove it the first summer with the v/6. I never had problems with the v/6 and I can't say that now about the v/8. I am not probably as fast as Archie is pulling a v/8 out because of all the wonderful experiance I have gotten. I did not know Pennocks forum was around when I got this idea and I got it from Archie's webpage and a ride in my friends v/8 GT. That hooked me. To this day, I have NOT seen a v/8 take abuse and not break something. I'm on my second tranny in one summer (auto) and I know a few people with 5 speeds that have either replaced clutches or trannys. So I guess it's up to what you want to drive and work on.
My 2cents....

By the way, you can't beat the sound of a v/8..

call it rice if you'd like... I'll still know what it took to get the first stock blocked V6 into the 12s... and it was with the assistance of nitrous (NX not NOS) but it took 3 years of Dyno tuning and research to get it there. jet changes help but they cause more problems than it'll make the car fast. proper tuning on any engine/system will yeild better numbers and carberation is old school(sorry for the shot). gotta hand it to Dave (ZZ430FI) very well done!

on the flip side i'm impressed that with the ammount of posting members on the forum so few people claim HP/TQ numbers... being a member of many other forums where BS claims are rampant and few back me up when i call BS on the poster.. not here! those that toss out eronious numbers are quickly shot down in flames and kept in check. keep up the honesty everyone!

Just in case you guys didn't notice, I weighed both my cars today. Total weight gain on my ZZ430FI car was 30 lbs.

Well, you had your say, so I'll express my opinion. Your statements lead me to believe that you've never driven or riden in a Fiero V8 that's been properly setup as an overall performance package. If you had, you'd never had typed the message above.

I won't even touch your comment about "The Old Tech V8 or Pony Car" except to say that if you do the conversion, as a package whole car treatment, it approaches "Super Car Status" more than it approaches the "Pony Car" status. It all boils down to chosing the right parts and setting the car up properly.

You are correct about the Fiero not being a Pony Car, it's far from it, no matter what engine you put in it (excluding powertrains that put excessive weight in the rear compartment).

As far as the V6 v/s V8 debate, nobodies going to win.

Note to Dave: Thanks for going through the effort of posting the weight comparisons, knew this to be so based on my car, but didn't feel like proving it to anyone.

Just my opinion.
