Well i got into my first REAL street race tonite. I am on my way home fromm work on a 4 lane highway that runs through Waldorf and what pulls beside me and starts revving its motor? A LS1 Firebird. Any other time i would back off and cower in fera of one of the fastest street cars available in the US. But this times different...i have a 3800SC inmy car now. So I rev back. And slow down to about 30 mph. That when the passenger in the Firebird rolls down his window and screams out..."Wanna RUN!?" I yell back...You'll Lose. With that the Firebird down shifted his manual trans mision and took off. I floored the pedal of my auto Fiero and caught him....and passed him...much to the surprise of the passenger that had his head turned watching my every move. Well my turn comes up so i turn off onto a 2 lane one way road this time. The first light turns red and i am the first car in line. Then guess who pulls up beside me? The same firebird. They aren't that cocky this time. The passenger yells over" What in the Hell is in that thing? It sounds awesome!" SO i tell him what it is and he proceeds to ask me if its rear wheel drive. Ok his like only 17 years old so well forgive them on that one. The driver then speaks up and says...The lights getting ready to change...you ready? The light turns green....and we take off. The tires were screaming and smoking!!! I started getting sideways so i let off a lil and felt the car hook up and gunned it again. I heard the Firebird grab 3rd. I looked over and sa the passenger staring at me with this...OHMYGAWD hes passing us!...look on his face. My car shifted into third and that was all she wrote. I had 3 car legths on him by the next light. We were doing well over 100 mph by then. They pulled in behind me and turned right while i headed straight. Yes i beat one of the fastest cars on the street tonite but the greatest thing was that when we were racing we passed a carwash that was loaded with all the local ricers washing their JapCrap. I wonder what they were thinkin. Chalk one up for the Fieros!!

Sounds like that is right up there with that WS6 I wasted at Englishtown at the High Performace Pontiac Day.

Way to go Earl.

Way to go Earl.......... congratulations !

I really wished I would have went with the 3800 s/c and the 4t65e heavy duty transmission, instead of going with the V8.

The fact that I would always be racing against Supra's,(at the track) sort of wieghed my decision towards the V8.

Oh well, the V8 is almost done now.

Have you ever Dyno'd your car......that would be interesting.

Take care,
Andrew

Your 1/4 mile time indicates you are a full second faster. And even a stock v6 Fiero will beat the T/A to 30mph. I have great respect for Firebirds, but we need to get due respect for Fieros, modded or not.

Anyways, great kill!

my little brother ran a 13.4 with 300 miles on his 98 TA (no ram air) on stock tires.
5000 miles later he ran a 13.2 (motor broken in)

he put on some NITTO tires, did the FREE-AIR mod to his air filter assembly (just just a piece out) and ran a 12.92.

chalk that win up to the inexperienced driver and the extra weight of the passenger.

I've raced him many times with my 3.4 5 speed.

I take him to 60, we are even at 70+ then he just pulls like a MO-FO. But hey, I used a crane 2030 cam (should have stayed stock).

By the way, Great Kill!

Hey Earl, this is steve in Dallas TX. Congrats on the LS-1 kill! i have raced a few of those down here at the Pont South Nat's,we (our 3.8 SC's) really pull away at the line but they start to catch up about 3/4 down the track. I will worn you thou, I had a humbiling street race a few weeks ago, I had a white SS camaro tail gate me for awhile (I think he was curious about my supercharged badge on the decklid) so i figured we would go, well he got next to me and we punched it at about 25 mph, well, he flew by me real easy! I have heard thru the rumor mill that there is a white SS with Nitrios around here, so just watch out fot those LT-1's running laufghing gas!!! BTW, I saw your article in the High performance Pont, Congrat's on that writeup!! Talk to you later......Steve

Go to Pontiac's Firebird Site and look at the new Firebird pics. They've looked like that since 1998, when they got the LS1.

Hey lou you can make all the excuses you want for that LS1 but we BOTH lost traction ...neither of us were using slicks. He had me at first and i blew by him. He had a stick and i have a auto. And race these cars EVERY friday nite at the local track and beat Camaro SS's and TransAms with the RAm Air. Don't believe me? I have video of me beating a WS6 Trans Am THAT redlighted. They routinely run 13.7- 13.2's with regularlity where I am at. Could have sumthing to do with temps and elevations? I have never dynoed my car but i assume its putting down around 200-210 HP at the wheels. Andrew...you planning on bring that thing down to MIR this Spring? I might make it to Capitol Raceway this year also. Maybe have the 3800Sc vs V-8 match alot of people have been waiting for.

Earl,

Yea I plan on racing my V8 eventually, I want to drive it gently for a little while, so i can enjoy it before I take it to the track and break something. LOL

Before I ever race against you or your brother, I need to work on getting awesome reaction times like you do.

Take Care

Nice kill Earl, I dont have anything that prestigous yet, but last night I was out delivering pizzas (yeah thats right I deliver pizzas in my 3800 supercharged fiero) and a guy in a 1967 firebird convertable pulls up next to me at a stoplight. I rev it up just a bit to get his attention. he looks over and is probably thinking in his head "whatever pizzaboy" so the light turns green, and I lay it to the carpet. 200 feet past the intersection Im 2 cars ahead of him, so I let off. He pulls up next to me giving me the thumbs up, and then he stomps it, so he pulls about 1/2 a car on me and I stomp it, within 4 seconds Im passing him again. This guy was probably thinking "damn I just got wasted by the pizza delivery guy, twice" . Its pretty cool having one of the fastest, if not the fastest, pizza delivery vehicles on the planet.

Well, I used to have an '87 Grand National with a low temp thermostat and chip (raised boost from 14psi to 19psi). A friend of mine, who was in Aerospace Engineering at the time, said when I kicked into it, it sounded like a Boeing 727 spooling up! You couldn't even hear the engine, all you heard was TURBO!! Now, I want to put one of those GN turbo's on a 3.4DOHC in my Fiero. Then I'm gonna do some LS1 hunting of my own!

(yeah, turbo much later, gotta get the engine first...)

LOL!!! FieroX! Did you have the lil lighted pizza sign on the car? Also I hope you delivered the pizza BEFORE you attempted the race. All the cheese would have slid to the backside of the pizza with all that power. Would make a very disgruntled customer i would think. Plus your car looks stock still doesn't it? The sound a 3800Sc makes sounds much like a electric power drill.

Yeah I had the lighted pizza sign on there! And I had already made the deliverys before the race.
My car doesnt sound like an electric drill. You can barely hear my supercharger, I have it running through the stock 2.8 air box with a K&N. I think I might get an open cone.

Heh, I can look forward to the NOS on my 3.4 and port jobs.

But hey when I get a fastback and get more on track of what I want to do in life I'm going 3.8 SC

Love the story my friend was laughing at it.. he's like could you imagine 3.8 SC in a fiero!

Ok, kudos on the kill.

But I am a bit skeptical. I own a 2001 Firehawk (LS1 motor) that's been dynoed at 360hp at the motor (305hp at the rear wheels) and all I have to say is maybe this guy didn't know how to drive.

I have beat 911's (non turboed) and Corvettes (non Z/06) with my car and find it hard to believe that someone with driving skills could lose to a SC'd Fiero with a LS1.

Granted your Fiero is faster than most Fiero's and most V8 drivers don't expect that kind of power from a Fiero so a kill is a kill in my book.

Not questioning your kill just skeptical.

I've went to the track and have seen numerous guys run mid 13's with their trans-am/formula/anniversey and they knew how to drive them

Sure you can do mods to your firebird to beat a 3.8 SC, but if someone does minor mods on the 3.8 SC they'll be right there or a head of ya..

I think the guy knew how to drive the car that raced Earl, the 3.8 SC is an awesome motor if you ask me. I've rode in my friends moms Grand Prix and for a big car that throws ya right in the seat an goes! I could only imagine the fiero with that motor.

why be skeptical the fiero is light.. firebirds gonna weight more, yeah sure throw an SC on the firebird but still your spending way more then the guy in the fiero..

Hats off to Earl I dig the car

Hey, IwannaIRM, yours is a Firehawk, the one my brother raced was a Trans Am Ram air, there is a difference. Also, my brother clearly stated they BOTH lost traction, as I can attest that day was damp. Also, my brother has a few mods on his motor: CAI, open exhaust, smaller pulley, computer and Adjustable fuel pressure reg. How can you be skeptical? Ever been to a drag race?? Ever raced yours there? Here in MD Trans Ams and Camaro SS's are low 13's at BEST on street tires. One night three F-Body club members came and spoke with us cause we were kicking their asses on the track! I have the utmost respect for the F-body cars, there is nothing on the street that can mess with them stock vs. stock but you have to give credit where credit is due. No need to make excuses and remember, the Trans Am picked the fight, he just couldn't FINISH it!

I cant wait until I get to smoke a few of those clowns. A friend of mine has a 2000 ta that ran a 13.42 at our local track, big deal. he thinks this thing is some kind of land rocket, and he says "you have a V6, Ill smoke you" sure you will. And there is another guy with a 96 ta, that is recieving a "corvette" engine soon. Wow, a vette engine. I dont care if it is in the vette or in a ta, Ill still smoke it. and this guy wants to race me for titles. I told him Id sell his car on ebay and buy a few more fieros with the money.

I'll race you Ryan, I got a early 90's Viper with the license plate 1badtoy. I think you have seen me around at the local Amoco gas station. I'll race you for titles, but I will win. My car should run low 12's easily. Better get a V8 buddy if you want to have a chance or just drop in a V10 like me, j/k. I got bored and posted this since I don't have a fast car I can at least act like it. Later man.
