I used to love topping out my GT with a passenger in the car and acting all surprised and scared when the headlight doors flew up. Its funny watching the passenger scramble to find their seatbelt

My GT was cruising along side a Viper GTS at 165mph (Viper's speedo indicated the speed). Don't know what the top speed of the GT is and will probably never find out.
Had my Ninja ZX900 up to 180 and backed off, what a rush!!!

well, I have a digital speedometer capable of 199, and its alittle off, 64 is actually 60. and I was quite upset when i hit 114 and then at 115 my engine let out alittle, as it turns out I have a speed limiter. I had plenty of power and still had overdrive to go into yet, unfortunatly for me, If I modify my engine alittle bit, my speed limiter will kick in during or before the trap at the quarter mile.

Toped my old 88 coupe out a few times. Speedo would wrap past 0 and hit the 10mph mark. I'd guess 115-120mph was about what I was doing. This was on the QEW.
Fastest I've ever driven was in a saab turbo. Speedo stoped at 135mph. But still was pulling for a bit after that. So about 140mph. This was in 5th gear at almost 5k rpm.

My first 86SE would top out at 133mph. Fastest in a car was 165mph in a REAL Lambo. (No, I was not driving) Fastest on water 86 knots, But I cannot tell you what I was on, It classified. Fastest in the air, 550mph in a military jet (No I wasn't driving this either)
BTW ~ around 130 in the stang, it has an internal speed limiter which cuts fuel above a certain rpm in 5th gear, so its prolly capable of more.
While checking 5 different magazines, even the new 3.8L Mustangs cannot go faster than 126mph. They have 40 more HP than your car! a 96 with a 3.8 (@150hp)tops at 121mph.

I went about 115 in fourth gear on a slight downhill slope.
But here's the clincher, my first car was an 87 Toyota Camry 4 cyl. Wagon. On a downhill freeway I went 120! I'm still not sure whether I was excited or scared.
Orief, as I said in the other thread, little things can make a difference, including k+n, downhill slope, etc. I took it quite a ways past the end of the speedometer (120), enough for 10 mph. And it is true theres an internal speed limiter, which limits top end performance. You can magazine race, I know what I've done.
I pegged my needle on my Formula a couple of time's. I'd say about 120-125 mph. The fastest I have gone is in my Brothers 1995 BMW M3 with some work done. But we did 165-170 in it on our way to Florida.

i once got to drive a relatives impala dragster. supercharged, alcohol burning 60-somthing Impala on the local dragstrip test n tune.
i'd say 185mph i didn't look at the timeslip, i was too shooken (is that a word?) but i used chutes to stop. and that was somthing i'd never get used to.

I don't know about this one, there are plenty of Stangs out there that top 145, I have raced a few. On the other hand... I have never been side by side with a fiero that does 133 Just something to think about.

My friends 1995 3.8 mustang tops out at 86, governor limited.
I have been to 145 in my 1973 Firebird Formula. (160 mph autometer) I have been to about 110? in my fiero. I have an 85 mph speedo, but I have seen it point to about 7 o'clock. According to cartest with my new engine, maxed out, top gear with lockup, power limited 180 mph. Thats assuming the front end doesnt lift and flip me off the road first.
What does 5mph in 3rd at 6100 rpm come out to??? and no I didnt stay there long. Didnt want to throw anything in my 84 SC. My 86 SC hit 0 at 6000rpm and I was staying ahead of 3 late model mustang GTs on I35 south from Dallas to San Antonio. Same stretch of road we got a 68 RS camaro that was highly modified up to 199 on the digi dash. And same area we got a 1997 GMC Sonoma SLS 4.3 modified to a 4.8 up to 187.

I will agree that a V-8 mustang can get to the 140's, I think the Cobra's can get into the 150's, but were talking about a 150hp V-6 in a 3246 lbs car. A K&N and going downhill is not going to increase your top end by 10mph. Top speed is limited by RPM, Final drive ratio, engine torque/HP, and tire size.
