I am 22. I have owned in this order a 92 Firebird, 88 Silverado, 97 Malibu LS, 86 Fiero SE, and 92 Ford Escort LX. I still have the Fiero and Escort. I fell in love with the Firebird because of the way it handled and looked. I got rid of it due to 289 a month insurance payments. The truck was a junker that ate gas. My Malibu ate break pads, leaked coolant, and leaked brake fluid. It finally had a fire and burned up. I got the fiero for my share of a camper ($500). The Fiero has been a dream of mine since I was 19. The car handles like a dream, is quick, quite attractive, and is an underdog. Most people hate the car. I don't own a car to make other people drool. I am not with the jones concept. I belive a car should reflect you, it should be like your favorite song. A form of passion. Not to show off but rather to express yourself. I have put more money in the car than it is worth, but that does not matter the car is my masterpiece in progress. I think people should buy cars that reflect thier souls.
I'm 20 and Im going on my 3rd year of Formula ownership. I was 17 when I bought it and had the choice between a 1988 Cavalier Z24, Ford Probe SE 4 cyl, 1987 Camaro Z28, and a whole list of 80-90 TAs, The thing with the fiero was that I knew about them, but I thought that if I wanted a 2 seat car it was gonna have to be an MR2 because there was no way I could afford a fiero..... but for $1500 I bought my formula with 160k miles on it. (I wasnt even gonna ask about the price but my dad told me too!) Now $7k later I have a car that wil run with a new mustang and turn more heads! I also bought an 86 GT after the formula but later sold it. Now I driver a neon for a daily driver and only use the fiero for special occasions.

FieroGTChile.... I agree with you. The Pontiac engineers poured their souls into the Fiero. It was a car of dreams and it remains a car of dreams. Just because some of us are under 25 it does not mean we are shallow. We can apreciate art. And that is exactly what the Fiero is. I see alot of 40+ people drivning unispired cars...Volvo's,Saab's,Towncars,etc. That is a lack of depth. Younger people still have a desire to express thier self through one form of art or another. Sports, cars, music, poetry, and painting to name a few. Don't think because we are younger that we are unrefined or somehow less cultured.

Best bang for your buck!!!! Small price to pay for such a head-turner. I bought it when I was 19 (I'm 24 now) and the moment I sat down in it and took it for a spin I felt like I was driving a Lamborghini...seriously...Whenever I looked in my rear view mirror and saw the wing and the vents it looked like a lambo to me. I duno, maybe it was the transition from a '76 VW Bug but it was still one of the best feelings.

A) I tried autocrossing and was immediately hooked. I wanted a car that had good geometry to start with, so I could tweak it to stick. The Fiero was one of my top three candidates, but was the most affordable.
B) I love the look of the GTs after lowering, wheels, tint, and paint. They are just sweet. The first time I saw a good looking GT was in about '91, and I instantly thought it was the sweetest looking car.
C) It's original. I'm original. I like original. It was a match made in heaven.
D) I love having the underdog car. "You drive what?" "And you like it?" "What the hell did you buy that for?" "Are you sure you want to race?" "Those are piles of crap!" These are some of my favorite statements/questions to hear
E) It was very affordable, and pretty cheap to maintain as of yet *knock on wood*...and you couldn't find a better group of people to be affiliated with. We know the public image of the car, so we stick together!
F) What can't you do to it? From a full bolt on rebody to a northstar, to a complete custom interior. If you want to, you can.
G) What's not to love?
I'm 19 right now, and got my car when I was 18. Nearly all of my friends in college like the looks of the car, are impressed at it's performance for what they were expecting, and are amazed at how low it is stock. I dig it
Well no long story here. I've always loved the car. Got my 1st at 16 just after I got my license. (86 coupe) Picked up my latest just after turning 17 (84 SE) Hopefully I can continue the pattern and get my 3rd when I'm 18, as well as yet one more step up in the model rank.
The cars speak for themselves. Everyone here knows the reason for having at least one, for otherwise we wouldn't be reading this.

I'm 24. Picked up my '84 SE in June of '99. My Uncle got me hooked.
Well being a full time college student, I wanted an affordable project, something small, pretty easy to restore, reasonable to upgrade, something I would want to drive during the week and tinker with & take to car shows on the weekends.
A Fiero seemed to fit those requirements and oh, I almost forgot, they are really cool lookin' cars too!
I bought mine because ever since I started driving I wanted to build a kit car. I missed out on a few deals for donor cars over the years, and decided on building a 73 firebird for a project. I finished the firebird, and it ended up real nice. It was my only car. I was delivering pizzas at the time, and my bird was only getting about 9-11 mpg on premium. I was spending 70-80 dollars a week on gas. I was making alot of money delivering pizzas, but that was hurting me pretty bad. I figured that if I bought a car that got twice the mileage on regular I could save 40 bucks a week, which is $160 a month. That pays a pretty good car payment. I got an unsecured loan from my bank for $1500. I picked up an 87 coupe for $500, and a 85 se V6 for $250. I swapped in the v6, traded the rest to a salvage for some misc parts, spent $120 on paint material (I had the rest of the material), and here it is.
btw im 21.

I was starting college and only had $1500 for a car. The Fiero was the best car I could get with my money. One year later, I want too keep it forver. Hopefully it won't have any more breakdowns ofr a while, because I still have no money.

soo many replies I'll keep my story short. I bought my fiero 3 days before I could drive and i've had it since then 2 years later i'm 18 and still love it to death. Bought it on impulse never heard of them before I saw it and fell in love.
The fiero is cheap, pretty!!!, gets the girls (I HATE THE CENTER COUNCIL), is very unique, and if you got a v-6 unlike me its quick too. Just wish I had a GT

Okay, I was 25 back in 1983 when I bought my first 84 red 4 cyl coupe.
I'm outside your age range now, but by no means am I considered an old timer. (say so, I kick your butt !) LOL
Bought it cause I thought it was a fantastic design. Inside it reminded me of a friends TVR - w/ the console & being low to the ground. Put about 56k miles on it. (traded it with 30k !) - (that's a different story !)
Because I bought all mine new, price was not a factor.
I loved the handling. My daily commute to work was 100 miles a day (50 each way). When I'd get to work, I hated to stop and go into work. Couldn't wait for the days to end !
Traded in the 84 for a new 85 red SE V6. Ran the poop out of it. I loved the extra power over the 84. Put about 70k miles on it.
When the 87 GT's came out with the blue, I just had to have one.
I went to the dealer, and ordered one sight unseen. I had heard about the color, but even the dealer did not have a color chip.
When it was delivered, it was the first blue one the dealer got. I had to peel the sales people off of it !! They never saw one, and they all couldn't get over it.
I've loved it all these years, and have kept it under 1800 miles. There are those the freak out about that, but they don't get much newer that this.
I've driven over 120k with the other Fiero's, and enjoyed them to the max. Just want to keep this one in the best condition possible.
Love seeing all the stories. Fiero's rule.

I bought my first a few months ago at 17 (18 now) and didn't know much about them then. It just fit the description that I was looking for: 2 seater, manual, sunroof, no power steering, etc. First time I drove it, I fell in love with it (despite the trouble i had getting it into reverse, and then accidentally starting it in 3rd gear, which i was amazed i could even do). Then I found this forum, and found out about all the cool things you can do with them (looking towards a quad 4 swap), and now I don't think I will ever be able to get rid of it.

Santa.. I was going to blaze on with comments about how much of an idiot you are but then I went back to your first post and I see that you are just 17. Nuff said, you can't help that you are an idiot.

When I was 14, I got my first job at a local farm as a field laborer (aka slave). Making just student minimum, ($4.75/hr),I still worked the whole summer without complaint. The leader of my specific crew was a 18 year old guy, who had a Fiero. Everyone kinda made fun of him for it, but he really had the bug. He would always say, "Only 2 seats, it's great! I always have an excuse why [he an his friends] can't use my car!", and, "I love the way it handles!" If I remember correctly, he had an 84, and I never thought it looked all that good. Eventually I started looking into them on the internet, and saw my first GT. It was all over, I was an addict. It was so beautiful, it handled so well, it was so beautiful...I must own one! I worked again the next summer at a local grocery store, trying to save up my money for my car. I made a promise to myself, I will buy my own GT when I am 16, and pay for it with my own money. Two weeks before I turned 16, PA put into effect a law that dictated that anyone getting their liscense must have their permit for 6 months, and have their parents sign off that they have driven 50 hours or more. I was devastated, but it only stegnthened my resolve. I worked that summer for a painter, a bastard to the end. But at $8, my bank account was swelling! Finally, that august, 2 days before school began, I bought my silver 87 GT. It was about $2500 more than I had, and I borrowed money from my parents. I paid them off last May, and halfway through June, my oil pump died and I didn't stop in time. $1400 and one and a half months later, I was back on the road. At the end of august, I finally finished paying off my parents for the engine swap, and have begun saving for the stuff in my signature. The reason I own one? Beause they are American built, they are beautiful, and not a single ricer, from what I have seen, has one in my area.

What, are you kidding? It's the closest thing this side of $30grand you can get to an 8-cyl Ferrari!!!
I'm 20 now, and am up to three (though about to make that two soon, getting rid of the parts car...) and hopelessly addicted. I even somehow became secratary of a national club. And I'm about to put a Northstar in the silver car (ok, I'll post that darn pic again, you've all seen it before, but I really like it
What is it I love about driving a Fiero? The big goofy grin it puts on my face, the fact that it's blatantly the Ferrari that Enzo would have built for 'every-man', the other great PEOPLE of the Fiero community, and did I mention that goofy grin they give me?!?!?
Best! Ben.

Wow! It's neat to see so many young people with Fieros! And lots of neat stories too! My fiero story is kinda long but here goes (it'll keep me from doing more boring homework!):
In March of 1985, my parents (my mom claims it was her doing) won a 1984 Fiero 2m4 "the sportiest, speediest car" of it's time the ad claimed. My dad, being the savy car guy, had done some research and convinced the marketing company to let him upgrade to the newly released 85 GT for a small cost. They ordered a black fully loaded (minus rear defogger - sales guy claimed it to be unnecessary). When it came home, I was instantly in love with daddy's "Night Ryder" car. So in love that I quickly brokered a deal with my younger sister that when we got older she could have daddy's 62 Vette cause the Night Ryder car (aka. 85 Fiero GT) was way cooler! I quickly dubbed the car "Kit" and tried to get it to talk to me...hey I was only 5 cut me a break!!! It probably would have said "Get away while you still can!"
Years went by and I bragged to all the kids at school about my dad's Fiero. When I turned sixteen, and had years of Fiero defending under my belt, I got to drive dad's 4 spd the day I got my permit. Soon after obtaining my license I weaseled ways to take out the Fiero. Shortly after that I was given a Dodge Omni but still tried to drive the Fiero as often as possible.
A year and a half went by, and I was nearly 18. I now hung with a crowd that drove Porsches (a crappy one but fast), Eagle Talons and Lumina Z34's. My little Omni just couldn't keep up. I borrowed Dad's Fiero as often as possible and in an effort to keep him from selling it I offered to help him install a clutch Meanwhile we had also picked up a cheap 4 cyl. that had some bugs. That summer I blew that up (not really - it died while I was driving it - belts flew everywhere ) So now I wanted an Eagle Talon or a Laser. But for my price range I couldn't find a turbo one in good condition. One day Dad came home and told me I should get a Fiero and that he had a friend who had some crazy V8 Fiero and I should go for a ride in it. Well that weekend I went for a ride! Man was that thing awesome! I walked away from there with big plans for the "88 GT Fastback" I was gonna buy and put a V8 in.
Dad told me finding an 88 would be impossible. He said I should at least settle for a fastback, and if not then an 85GT. Around this time I started to get involved with MAFOA and became a bit more Fiero educated. I realized my 88 quest would probably be fruitless in my price range.
Wouldn't you know that same day Dad came across a silver 88 GT/5 spd? Guy wanted 5 grand but after driving it, dad offered him 4 and told me that I would never see the car, the guy turned down the offer. My dad promised to call him in 2 weeks to see if the car was sold, the guy assured him it would be and I went off to the beach 2 weeks later (however the night before I left I had checked and the car was still there!).
So after bugging dad all weekend, he finally calls me sunday and says the car has been sold. I was very upset cause by this point I had found more out about 88's and really wanted one. I came home that Monday and called everywhere. No Fastback Fiero's or Fiero's period to be found anywhere. I was heartbroken and in a terrible mood when my mom called me the next night and told me to interupt my plans and come right home from work so my dad could look at the AC in his Fiero. I flipped on her when I got home and my dad was nowhere to be found.
Needless to say my mood quickly changed when I went down to fetch her something in the basement garage. My dad came running in through the outside garage door with that no nosense "I need your help immediately" voice. Well he needed help alright. Out in the driveway sat the beginnings of my true Fiero addiction...a silver 88GT 5 speed! The guy had sold the car to me for 4000!!!! Whatta deal I later realized! Now a dozen Fieros in the family...and three of my own...plus a wonderful Fiero owning boyfriend...I'm hooked for life!
