Hi I'm a new member and this is my first post on here..
I have a 86 gt with a 3800 sc 5 speed .. the problem I have is is
Will not shift in to 5th gear but 1-4 work fine and rev so I'm stumped
The shifter and trans goes to 5th position but feels like its in neutral
No noise hope someone else has had this problem and can help me out..lol

Did it just stop working overnight?

The trans was bought used but told it was good the getrag at the drag strip
Exploded so I had to replace it and the Isuzu trans is the only thing I could find at the time
So not sure been like that scenes I put it in

Get one rear wheel off the ground. Disconnect the cables and move the transmission levers into each gear. The wheel should not rotate freely......if it does, something is wrong inside your new isuzu. If you are going to drag race this tranny it probably won't last as long as the Getrag did....

Wheel doesn't turn in all gears but 5 th gear but like I said it feels like neutral
It like it not going into gear

silly question... but...
what tranny did you have in it before??
Are you sure the guy sold you a 5 speed and not a 4?
did you have a 4 spd in it before?
Rev is in a different spot on a 4 than a 5
on a 5 Rev is over to right below 5th..
so if it goes into rev then that rules out shifter linkage.
the 4 & 5 shifters are also different, one will not work with the other...

It had a 5 speed getrag and it broke or exploded I have looked and
Couldn't find one to replace it so found a wrecked fiero that had the
Isuzu 5 speed bought it and the cables bracket And slave cylinder put
It in and no 5 the gear it like its in neutral all other gears work fine

Is the shifter in side the car the same for the getrag and the Isuzu 5 speeds ?

The length of the cables is different, so one may end up being too short for the other application.

Ok thanks... I guess something broke in the trans for me not to have 5 the gear
But seems to work fine in All other gears and rev not sure if there's anything else

Yes. They are made differently but are dimensionally the same and have the exact same range of motion etc.
