Yes the 50/50 is the best.

Just be careful tightening the small bolts. Be very careful on the top one that has not metal behind it as you can break the pump casting. As long as you got them snugged nicely you should be ok. You don't want wrench them super tight. the torque specs are average tightness.

Any tips on installing a new radiator draincock? I purchased a new one today, and after comparing it to the old one, I realize that there is a piece that came off in the process and is apparently still in my radiator. I didn't know that you aren't supposed to pull it all the way out (the unspoken laws that I speak of that I end up finding out the hard way)

Basically, with piece in tact, it is a lot bigger than the tiny hole that it is supposed to go into. I obviously cannot refill my system with coolant until I get this resolved.

Not to mention I have to find a way to get the plastic bits of the old plug out.

I was hoping to finally get it back on the road in the next day or 2 when I realized that I have a leak from the WP gasket. I was so pissed off that it took me 20 mins to drain the coolant and remove the wp whereas it took me nearly a week last time. I am calling off of work and working on this car all day until it is completed. Enough is enough.

It is leaking because there was a section that would not come clean when I removed the old wp so I left it go thinking that it wouldn't really be in the way of the new gasket, but that is the exact spot where it is leaking from. Lesson learned.

For me cleaning the mating surface was the most tedious part. Getting in there and being gentle was a pita. It just took extra patients.

Also I put a layer of RTV on each surface along with a new gasket.

GL patients will pay off!

After having one start leaking behind the larger rad. hose I got the stuffer formula RTV and put on both sides of the gasket installed and let it set up good before filling. But the surfaces have to be well cleaned.

Man this is stubborn, there's a crevice on the bottom that has this rubbery substance (old gasket?) that I've sprayed with carb cleaner 3 times and keep trying to cut into with a putty knife but it is difficult. I'll just have to keep at it. That is the area that I just let go last time, and the area where it was slowly leaking/dripping from.

Is brake cleaner any better than carb cleaner? Or are they about the same?

The saga continues. I just realized that the rubbery thing that was in the way was the top of the hose, which is now mutilated. It is still clamped on and wasn't chewed up after or beneath the clamp, so I'm hoping I'll be ok. At least it's no longer in the way of the gasket surface.
