I was wondering who makes tinted or blacked out tail lights. Does anyone? I want to make some cheaply, because of the delamination on mine I thought this effect would help hide the delam. I found some spray on stuff on eBay, but I doubt that it works. Or am I wrong? I don't want to ruin my set of tail lights experimenting.

This is the eBay junk.
Thanks for the input

Most people use the VHT Niteshades and they spray it from the inside. That way the lenses look glossy. If you spray them on the outside, you may have to buff them out to achieve a good gloss.

I'm a fan of the pantyhose and gutter guard mod. Best part is it's non-permanent if you want to undo it. Did it on my last fiero and loved it... havent gotten around to doing it on the present one yet.

See this thread... about halfway down, on the blue fiero

I have the best way... tail light tint that is a cling... stays on like vinyl, but you can peel it off and reattach at any time! Not sure if there is a premade kit on ebay like we got for the Mustang, but I made mine for the civic and Fiero myself. I got some cling tint from wal-mart, measured and cut... clean the lens with glass cleaner... use a bit of soapy water so the cling can slide. Work it into place and squeegee the water out. Perfect look without the permanent commitment!

I have seen 90% of nightshades tinting jobs look BAD... they never shine like a lens, even with clear. (I have seen a few good ones, but its not easy) Pray you match the coats from side to side, not to mention spitting from the can making dark spots. Sure you can sand and mildly buff, but it will never look as good as a real lens.

Now if you pay to have a shop do it then that is a different story... They can mix black and clear just enough to get it to tint and still lay it down perfectly slick!

The cling however... the hard part is just getting the cut right because the stuff is so darn thick... i still have to retrim mine a bit... darn factory stamped raised letters on the lens... grrrr!

Quick write up on our Mustang...

Get them wrapped in vinyl. Not that expensive, and easily taken off.

I sold a set that had been wrapped to look like Trans-am tailights.
should still be pics somewhere--search my posts in the mall..
I had it done at a sign shop next to my restuarant, only cost me
lunch for his employees!!!
It will cover any delam, and I just pulled the bulbs out of the Pontiac
in the middle so it wouldn't show through.

Wow, those have the film on the outside? Those look fantastic. I had thought about using that static-cling tint before, but I thought it would have to be on the inside. How long have you had it on there? Does it hold up well? I would think you'd have to be careful what you use to clean it. Looks good though.

ive had an idea ive been tossing around in my head...

spray the inside of the tail light lens with frosted glass spray paint, coat the outside lightly with niteshades and go over it with some clear and clean n polish it. the lighting would be a bit more spread out for a neat looking even lighting pattern.

Thank you! Cleans up with normal car wash soap, at shows I wipe it with microfiber and quick detail (same as paint)... Yep static cling film on the outside. For the Stang I got it from an ebay vendor... we have had it for 4-5 years. It is thinner then the type they sell at walmart.

I used the walmart ones and cut these out for the Civic... I already posted my home made ones for the fiero above.

Few more of the Mustang... Here you can see the tails... I also hand made my own clings to "tint" the "chrome GT" and "blue ford" emblem. Also the piece of satin aluminum just above the "can you hear me know?" was tinted with the cling to make it match the "MUSTANG" insert black chrome letters

I also made my own rear side marker light covers for it...

Also hand tinted the fog lights myself, but with a lighter shade of cling then the civics tails...
